You will need to find an experienced resin caster to contract with, one who has experience with large molds and production casting. Bear this in mind though, resin casting materials are not inexpensive. This fact will drive up the price of your end product, perhaps to the point where you will not be able to find a market for it. Remember, you will be offering a resin kit your customers will have to have the skill to assemble and paint, unless you do the assembly and painting which in turn will drive up the price of the end product. Further, even if you offer it as a kit, resin kits offer challenges well beyond your ordinary plastic model kits. This will alienate most potential buyers. Further still, since the Chap Mei Osprey is an inaccurate toy, you will not be able to capture a secondary market of experienced model builders interested in building a 1/18 scale Osprey.

Have fun!

Wow!

What an ambitious undertaking. Resin casting is a major expense, not anyone can just jump into it. To do it right, you need preasure chambers (pots) big enough to house the molds. A cheaper method might be in vacume forming the hull pieces.

If I were doing this project, I would make a mold of the ouside, pour plaster to make a hard negative of the outer shell and then use that as the mold in the vacume chamber. In vacume molding, warm styreen sheets are layed on top of the mold and an outer frame goes over the styreen edges holds it in place. The vacume is turned on and all the air is sucked out causing the styreen wrap around the mold, taking on all the details and shapes. Once the vacume is shut off and the styreen is cool, the sheet is pulled off the mold and the machine is rest for the next piece of plastic. The shells are then cut out of the styreen sheet. Some trimming and sanding will be needed.

Now this process is only good if you don't care to replicate the interior. The shells would be glued together with either model glue or pvc glue. The glue fuses the plastic together. The smaller pieces can be molded in resin and glued into place or screwed in.

I hope you get it and everything's fine! For what it's worth, I've had more than one of an item that I list on Ebay one after the other, if the second chance bids are good enough I'll offer them up without relisting sometimes.

Keep an eye on the guy, we had a scammer around the Tank a few years ago selling them and not coming through with the product.

Actually, I bid on one in the UK a few days ago... Hmmm. This sounds shady simply because you never see them come up on ebay. You don't, by any chance, have a link to the listing do you?

This is starting to sound too good to be true.

He has solid feedback at high numbers, if he was a scammer odds are something would be out of line in the past year, it looks like ya did GREAT!

1) get some playdoh
2) squich as much of the playdoh around the ship being careful to mold it 100%
3) remove the playdoh once it hardens carefully not to break the mold
4) Glue the mold together
5) Get some plastic resin of any choice or type you can find
6) pour into the mold
7) wait 6 days and then break loose the playdoh

Add paint if needed.

When will you should get it?

Well, this is the problem:
We should both be getting one. Time will tell if that happens, or if one or both of us has been grifted. This just sucks. Hunting these things down is literally like trying to find unicorns.

Is this the vehicle in question?

With the way Paypal and eBay work now, if this guy is scamming you guys, you should have no problem getting your $ back(though I hope you don't have to and actually get the Osprey). If you don't receive it, he has to provide proof that he sent and you actually received the exact item in the auction. Otherwise, PayPal will reverse the transaction and refund your money. I unfortunately had a couple shady buyers pull this on me for small items which I don't usually put Delivery Confirmation on... won't make that mistake again.

I bought some of the things listed from him, and received them today, so I wouldn't worry. One of the lots I won was one he listed a duplicate of after the auction. I received all the things I won though. I also bid on the osprey, as I'm always keen to have more. As someone who has the vehicle I can tell you it would be an horrendous job to try and cast, before you even get to the rotor tilt issue and that the wing is a separate cast that swivels to cover the body when stowed. In fact, instead of trying to cast one etc to have more, I think it's easier to convert or customise other vehicles. The osprey dimensions aren't quite the same as the chap mei helicopter. My ospreys are in storage at the mo (optimistically making space for the coming of the ab-115 shark in the uk in may... A week to go!) but otherwise I'd take pics to illustrate my point.

For this sort of toy, it is not that hard to find in the uk, so I was shocked at what it went for when I saw the end bid...
I suspect smyths toys will have them in stock at some point as they vary and update their soldier force offerings(also where I'm waiting for the ab-115 sharks).

If they do become available there, I'd gladly go get some for trades.
Another source at times is elc, and they might still have some in some of their brick and mortar shops here in the uk, though they don't carry the military theme, but rather dinosaur and safari etc, usually.

One thing about the osprey if you want to customise it, it takes quite a few layers to paint, even with humbrol enamels. I painted the tail of one about 5 times.. I have no idea why that is....
