Atari 2600 w/Asteroids! would fly that little ship in a straight line until the big asteroids got real close... then pull back on the stick and see how many times it could "warp" before blowing up.... not many.

Atari 7800

But I didn't get that until around the time the Super NES came out (My mom wasn't a fan of video games)

Coolest thing about the 7800? It could play 2600 games also :)

I was rocking out to Galaga, Yar's Revenge, Mario Bros. and one of my fav's:
Dr. J and Larry Bird Go One on One!

I loved breaking the glass in that game!

TI-99 Part computer & video game system. Kind of an odd little piece of equipment. Had controls with it and you could do basic programming and save it to an audio tape.

First console my dad bought the family the Magnavox Odyssey. One of the few times in my life I could remember me and my father playing video games. Have since tried to get him back into it but he's now more into the Hoyle PC games and a golf game on my old PDA that I recently gave him.

Me and my brother's first was the Odyssey 2 around 1979-80. It had this one game called "Pick-Ax Pete" that was awesome. After that came the Atari 2600 complete with woodgrain trim, I still got it. We were the first in our town to get an NES Christmas 86, and our house became the local arcade.

Mine was Intellivision. It didn't have the titles that Atari had but the games looked and played so much better.

My friend growing up had the G.I. Joe game for the Commodore 64. I remember the first night he got it was also the night we rented The M.A.S.S. Device VHS. Good times great memories.

Yes! Me too! I 1st got the Atari 2600 w/ Combat. Then I got the Commodore 64 and in Dec. 1985, I got Epyx G.I. Joe game. It had good graphics and character animation for it's day and you could be a Joe or Cobra. I got really good at it but every time you were gonna capture all the Cobras, one would escape the jail! It never ended!

I am not as old school as all of you but mine was the NES. Nintendo Entertainment System.

It still reigns as the best system to me because it had all the GREATEST games. Most of which are now being remade into new games. (Megaman, Bionic Commando, Prince of Persia)

It sadens me because NO ONE in my 2D game development class knows anything about old games and they HATE 8-BIT. (RAGE) WTF!

No, I think it was refered to as B.O.B. not sure what that stood for. I had just the plain old run of the mill NES bought off the back of a truck, that came w/Super Mario Brothers.
kinda like the movie Child's Play except it wasn't a doll.

My first system was a Pong system from Sears. Me & my brother got it for Christmas one year as a present for both of us. It played about 3 or 4 different versions of Pong. Fun stuff for those days.
I don't remember what year exactly, but later we finally got the Atari 2600 followed by Intellivision.
The Pong system is long gone, but still have my Atari & Intellivision. Combat on Atari is still kind of fun to play with your friends while enjoying multiple "adult beverages". :)

Atari 2600... Combat and Missle COmmand... Those games stole my younger years. I also had a Commodore 64... Pirates and Bard's Tale were awesome!

I remember mowing yards to get a NES when they first came out. WHen I finally had the cash, I got it with The Legend of Zelda... hehe That game still rocks.

I still have a working 2600 and NES. I pull out the NES on occasion to play FFI and Dragon Warrior... NES had some great RPGs...

I got to play on the Commodore a few times at a couple of my friends, but hated how long the load times were on those things!

The NES was my very first Console.
I got it somewhere around 1988-1989 on the day I had an accident with my bike. I fell pretty hard and had a stick popping close to my eye.
lol I remember I was really happy, but a bit sad as I couldn't play that well with a headache.
I had the Actionset with the NES, 2 Joypads, Zapper, and the multipack Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt.
The games (which were back then really expensive, around $70) I got for the NES were:
- Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt
- Super Mario Bros. II
- Super Mario Bros. III
- Legend of Zelda II: The Adventures of Link
- Batman
- Flintstones
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
- The Adventures of Bayou Billy
I played a lot of NES games at the local toystore for 2 bucks at a machine that had around 9 games to choose from with 3 continues. Also another local toystore had a different machine where you could just play a game they had in there I think for 2 bucks per 15 minutes.
I remember playing Blaster Master, Legend of Zelda, Batman II Return of the Joker, TMNT II: The Arcade Game, Probotector (EURO version of Contra), Blue Shadow (EURO version of Shadow of the Ninja), and a couple more over at my nephew's house like Fester's Quest, Ducktales ! & 2, Super Off-Road. Good times :)
I always wanted the games that featured in Captain N: The Game Master. I loved that cartoon! lol
Super Mario Bros. Super Show was ok, but was awesome when a Zelda Episode aired XD

Eventually I ended up selling my NES and bought a Super NES from that money. A few years later I sold the SNES for a Sega Megadrive II (EURO version of Sega Genesis) Lion King Pack, which I still have to date.

Between those years I had a Game Boy for a like a month, I sold the thing again because it was horrible to play at such a small monotone screen, I hated it.

Can you believe I never saw Star Wars until I was 14? I bough a set of the tapes because they were cheap and the art looked so cool! We didn't have a vcr anymore because it was stolen (with a tape of my GIJOE tv recordings in it!!!)
A boyfriend of my sister brought along his old NES with like 20+ games which I could play for a few weeks. Star Wars caught my eye because I had the videotapes. I played the game and loved it!
I soo had to watch those tapes now, so I rented a vcr and watched them and made my own lightsaber from a flashlight and a tube.
I never had a single Star Wars figure as a kid! I never knew it existed! lol

Later on, I bought the SNES and the NES again witha bunch of games, the ones I had and the Star Wars game.
My next console was the N64 for Zelda: Ocarina of Time (the best Zelda game I've played, I finished it 3x!)

I got a game boy color (this one was so much better than the big old vintage one) for some Pokemon games and the zelda DX somewhere along the road.

Sega Saturn was my next console which I somehow sold again a few months after owning it because I was more into playing PC games (especially Tomb Raider) The Playstation 2 (Silver edition) is my newest console to date. I have not yet jumped to the next generation. I probably will at some time. I want at least all the consoles with the Zelda games, I'm a huge fan of those! (with the exception of the 3 ubercrappy Philips CD-i Zelda games)

For like 5 years I have rarely played any console games because of the MMORPG Ragnarok Online, where I met my wife :)

I just started to play the N64 game Zelda: Majora's Mask. Collecting G.I. Joe's takes up all of my collectors money atm, so barely any new games atm. I get to play the Nintendo DS soon as my wife gets one for Christmas XD

I started collecting NES games & consoles around 6 years ago, I got around 3 working NES consoles whic I made regionfree as well and got around 80 games for it now. Most of the games I wanted as a kid :)
I am trying to make space and sell lots of my old toys and have been thinking about selling some of my NES games as well, but my wife wants me to keep them for our gamesroom XD

atari 2600.... we got it from a guy used with a handful of games. about a year later my cousins got an NES and I couldn't believe the difference in graphics! I thought that having an NES was like having an arcade machine at home :)

I can't say I had really fond memories of the 2600...there were a lot of games that you could just never finish or that were complete crap. I think tutankhamun and HERO were 2 of my favorites. I couldn't believe how BAD pac man was on the 2600. I remember being extremely disappointed at how it looked on the 2600 compared to the arcade!

Atari 2600 (Although mine was just video computer system, got it before they started calling it 2600). I've still got two of them with about 65 games. It doesn't have the play value though that the NES does. That was my second system and still the one with the most great titles. I had an obsessive/compulsive kick a few years ago where I had to get all the original black label games. I did, but I never play them. I got the one with R.O.B (robotic operating buddy) and the laser gun. I think that system cost about $250 in '87. Crazy! Maybe it was $150. Anyway, then from there the normal route of Game Boy, SNES, Sega Genesis, Playstation, N64, Game Boy Color, Sega Dreamcast, Playstation 2, Game Boy Advance SP, Nintendo Wii, and Playstation 3. Still have all the systems except for Playstation (which I can play on PS3) and N64 (which I can play on Wii), and a couple of the Game Boys. All this said, all I play anymore is Guitar Hero and I'm getting ready to go pick up World Tour in a few minutes!

My first was an Atari 2600. I used to play the game that had all the different planes you had to shoot down and Haunted House. Then my buddy got NES and that was it. I wasted a good year of my life on Super Mario Bros. and Duck Hunt. Once he got the action pad and the Olympics that was it. Ma dukes did not see me much for that summer.

I do like how the new systems have the games down loadable now. Not only can you have close to the game you played as a kid but some of them do enhanced graphics. I have a WII and an XBOX so I'll download a classic once in a while. I need to turn on the box and get that new Bionic Commando. Has anyone played that yet?

Nintendo Entertainment System, got it for christmas in 1988. My parents searched high and low, but being originally from NJ, my dad was a cop and he knew a guy who new a guy. . . you know?

I have a similar story. My next door neighbor and his wife were my third set of grandparents, adoptive, but grandparents nevertheless. My third grandfather ran a pool hall. He knew a guy who knew a guy. The Christmas that the NES was impossible to find, my parents tracked one down and a few games. Uncle, my third grandparent, on Christmas morning brought over a hug cardboard box and said merry christmas. It wasn't wrapped. I opened it with my brother to find it packed with games. I mean packed with games. Many of them in duplicate. The duplicates I gave away. That was the second best Christmas ever. First best was waking Christmas morning, running down stairs to find a U.S.S. Flagg built in the living room. That was awesome.

Intellivision was my first game system. Then a brief stint with atari before the NES.

Yeah, that's it.

The kid has an Atari video game cartridge that contains some sort of US government secret code inside.

The reason I mentioned the film is because it provides decent insight as to what life was like during the age of Atari video games.

My first system was the Atari 2600, and my first nemesis was my dad. That all changed after I spent many days during the summer of '83 practicing *cue Rocky training montage*. After that fateful game of Combat in which I totally obliterated my dad, I took the crown:)

It wouldn't be until the NES I would get into video games hardcore.

SNES is my favorite.

The Atari 2600. Later, the 7800. Then PCs. Never had Nintendo until my bro bought an N64 while in college. Then got a Dreamcast for Christmas one year, an XBOX the next. Most of my favorite games are PC games from about 1989-1996. Sierra Adventure games for the win...King's Quest, Conquest of the Longbow...loved all those.

Sierra was money back in the early 90s. All those games were great; my favorite was definitely the Robin Hood game, "Conquest of the Longbow." Probably, in all honesty, that game was the best contemporary version of the Robin Hood story; better than any movie, book, or tv show.

Here's my Top 10 favorite SNES games, 'hump

The Legend of Zelda - A Link to the Past
Street Fighter 2 - Hyper Fighting
Super Mario World
Mario Paint
Super Castlevania IV
Star Fox
Super Metroid
Stunt Race FX
Contra III - The Alien Wars
Super Punch-Out!!

Secret of Mana, Griffey Jr Presents MLB and NBA Jam just missed the list.

You have some of the same favorite ones as me but I can't narrow it down to just 10 since there was so many.
Street Fighter II - I was an arcade pro fighter making people lose quarters in different neighborhoods and when it first hit the home console it was huge something like the first big memory cartridge and it cost $75
Final Fantasy II & III-I was and still an RPG geek
Starfox-paved the way for 3D shooters
Super Mario World-I played that thing for hours and had the Nintendo Power guide so I can complete all worlds
Legend of Zelda-felt so cinematic loved the series
I can go on but will end up writing a novel

2. Yep, saw cloak and dagger, and I think it was an atari 5200 cartridge. Dabney Coleman was a poor substitute for flint playing Jack Flak

Did anyone else have the broderbund game "karateka"??

My dad loaned some money to my moms brother (my uncle) around NOV 1988 (my uncle was a bad heroin addict at the time) he did not have the money to pay my dad back before christmas like promised, and my dad had planned to buy me an 8-bit nintendo with the three-pack (duckhunt, mario, and track) that year. My dad told my uncle he did not care how he did it but I was going to have that video game system under the christmas tree that year (the amount borrowed was not enough for the system but was 80ish% of its retail cost). My father assumed my uncle would buy a stolen one, but he was not prepared for what happened next. My uncle left the house, walked about a mile to the local Toys R Us in Napa California, grabbed a shopping cart, strolled over to the nintendo display, grabbed one and thew it into the cart, and then pushed the shopping cart out the front door. He returned an hour later with the nintendo. My mother wrapped it an I had the best Christmas ever. It wasn't till I was much much older that my parents and uncle shared this story with me. (kind of sad)

My first game system was an original SEGA... before the Genesis.

Thing was awesome, but broke down 3 times. Each time it broke down my Mom (who kept all receipts) took it back and got us a new one.

Eventually got a Sega Genesis which was then stolen when someone broke into my Mom's house. Now I have a PS2 that sits around and collects dust because I don't play video games anymore.

I am not sure what it was but I had a bunch of games, it was an old school computer and I remember most was the Empire Strikes Back game, where you are in a Snowspeeder fighting AT-AT's. Atari?

Then Nintendo came out, ahh I played it for so long, then Super Nintendo, and didn't buy a console until PS3, by that time I was pretty much done with games, and sold the ps3 with all my 20+ games. It was cool, I just didn't give myself enough time to play it so it just sat in dust for 5 months.

Eh, it added a bit more high def, but with my HDTV and dvd player, it works fine with or without it.

I tried getting all I can out of it, but in the end I spent about $800 (cables, router, controllers, etc) plus games on it, and it wasn't doing enough.

For the gamer, it is a great system, I was just fooling myself trying to get back into it.

I know I thought I would be complete with the ps3, but then I started to buy blu-ray dvd's and regular dvds, then it started getting really expensive, but I do have HD cable box, but it only covers a handful of stations I watch.

It still does wonders with my dvd player, compared to a normal tv.

Atari 2600 [1981!]
Commodore 64 [1984]

Sega Genesis -> 32X -> Sega CD -> Sega Saturn
[PC 386-486]
Playstation 1
Xbox
Xbox 360

Growing up, my best friend and his cousin both had a Texas Instruments console that used cartridges and a keyboard/joystick. Neighbor had the Intellivision, but only one kid in the neighborhood had the Colecovision.
I had a cousin who had everything put out in the late 80s to mid 90s including Neo Geo and Turbografix 16. I think he even had an Atari Jaguar.
My brother had a Super NES, N64 and a Sega Dreamcast that I'd play on from time to time. I'm never really current with my consoles. I didn't get an Xbox until 2003 and I've only had my XB 360 for a couple weeks now.

All of my friends had Atari and Nes, so I always played video games at their houses. My first console was the Turbografx 16 and soon after the Turbo Express. I'm not sure if it was the 5200 or the 7800? But it was the Atari "Super System" that came with Pac-Man..it was the controller that looked like a telephone pad with the 2 orange "fire" buttons on the sides...

After that NES--which I firmly believe was the greatest home video game system ever...Bad Dudes? Castle Vania? Rolling Thunder? Mike Tyson's Punch Out?!?! Whhhhhaaaaaaaaat? It was off the hook!!

Then SNES...bringing Street Fighter 2 home changed everything!!

Genesis--NBA Jam alone was worth the price of owning the system, Altered Beast, Sonic and basically any sports games rocked.

I got Dreamcast after that (big gap I know) I still think Dreamcast was SOLID!!! Marvel Vs Capcom, Dead Or Alive, Ready To Rumble Boxing and NFL2K....I loved Dreamcast!

Xbox--Halo/Madden...great system

Finally Im down to XBOX 360 and I bought it JUST for Madden...personally I think Madden is the greatest thing since the NFL itself!

Honorable mention goes to my Gameboy Advanced..I still play it! I have the classic controller scheme, I bought it to play Castle Vania, then Street Fighter Alpha came out for it...and I still have no reason for another handheld!

Odyssey for me too! This 1/2K system sucked! "Quest for the rings" and "K.C. Munchkin" (a Pac-man rip off) ate up alot of hours!

First game system I had was the Atari 2600. Actually, it belonged to my parents, who had already bought it for themselves before I was born. But it was the first system I ever played. I remember countless hours with games like Missile Command, Pitfall, Space Invaders, and (yes) the infamous ET. :D

By the late-80s, we sold it and all our games and replaced it with the NES. From there we had Sega Genesis, N64, Playstation, Playstation 2, and now Xbox 360. The 360 is my brother's, as I don't play very many current gen games. However, I do have a PS2 Slim in my room for a few games that I do like, such as the GTA and Lego series. (Also still have the Genesis and N64, along with an NES I bought several years ago. For the most part, I'm an old school gamer. Heck, I even still have -- and play -- my Atari Lynx!! :D )

My first system was the Atari 5200 it had the Arcade Graphics and Pacman didn't sound like a rubber band.

Then it was the Nintendo, followed by Super NES, then Sega Genesis, Nintendo 64, Dreamscape, Playstation... and then I went PC Gamer. I haven't owned a console since.

NES, SuperNES, N64, Genesis, TurboGraphics, SegaCD, Sega32X, Atari Jaguar, Real3DO, PS1, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, Xbox, Ps2, GameCube, Xbox 360, Wii. Have not broken down for a Ps3. Tel-Star pong system back in the 70s.

then Atari 2600, Intellivision 1 and 2, Colecovision.

Then later it was NES and Sega Master, Gensis, Saturn, Playstation1, Dreamcast, X-Box and X-Box 360.

I pretty much preferred Intellivision, then all the Sega systems, and now X-Box.
