Long story short.
My friend who owns a comic shop has a Terrordrome base. Just the base! its the core shell, bottom base, center column and the tower bowl portion. No walls, no weapons, no nothing!

Hes had it forever and is using it as a paper weight.

I'm thinking about offering him a couple of bucks for it, see if he wants to get rid of it.

My thoughts are that I can buy the pieces for it over time and build it up. Not to mention I can get some cheap parts for it if Im patient and check the B/S/T often.

How many of you have tried this?
maybe not with a Terrordrome but maybe with another vehicle/playset.

Ive been doing it with a FLAGG for 3 years. I am almost done just a hand full of peices left and it will be done. Probably cost as much as it would to buy a complete one in the first place. Btu I see this as making payments on it so I am not out all the money at once.

Good luck

just buy a full complete one. The terrodrome has too many fargile and breakable parts to try and piece one together and keep costs low and sanity in check would be a challenege only for the none faint of heart. I wont buy a terrodrome until I can find one mint in the box unopned...which is getting more and more unlikley. If you wana buy it to just redesign and build one for yourself like with other parts and what not, I would offer him $20 for it run with your customizations.

i don't have your problem but i have been wanting to you the bridge set from the star trek movie as command center of a terror drome and if it doesn't have the firebat launch bay then maybe that might be something that would interest you. just an idea

The last TD I painted started like this. It was a shell and a handful of parts. It was sun damaged and I got it for $15 or $20. I spent another $100 or so on parts. I bought them in larger lots so the cost per part was low. I think if you are patient and dig around you can do it for cheaper than buying it complete. The main gun mounts are the priciest pieces.

I have a bag of chairs and parts and stuff for a TD, if you pick up that shell PM me.

Did that myself, paid $15 for the shell, and bought part lots. I now have a 99% complete one for about $90 and time.

Try not to buy your parts one at a time and it shouldn't be too bad. The gun tips and gas station things will add up quick unless you wait for an ideal lot to come around, patience.

Found a Drome this weekend. Paid $25. On the top, it only was missing a computer station and a gun turret. I have one bottom piece. I am very happy with just the shell and think I will be fine adding parts as I find them. It may add up, but it doesn't have a million pieces to find.

That plus I would think it would be very rewarding regardless of a few extra bucks to Finnish a project like that.

i doubt you will save any money at all. unless you are glutton for punishment or have NOTHING better to do, just get a near complete one. :)

Thanks guys, It does seem like it would be better to just get one near complete. I wanted some opinions but looks like the majority vote is not to go this route.

even if you get a near complete on chances are there will be plenty of cleaning/adding/replacing pieces to make it feel like a project you worked on. i know mine did. :)

Regardless, make sure your awesome wife who just bought you a Flagg is going to be ok with another big toy in the house. I know it's not the same size, but the cost is still pretty big. Don't push too hard too fast. Enjoy the Flagg and wait until the right deal comes along for the TD.

Who knows, maybe she bought that too and it will arrive next week! LOL

I've been restoring Transformers and GI Joe for some time. And cost wise your better off buying another complete one to mix the best parts. I just currently bought my third Terrordrome and when it's said and done I'll have two mint ones, and one for parts that will be missing a lot. Good luck!

Dude, all week Ive been thinking about that Terrordrome this guy has and about restoring it. When I posted this thread earlier today I was at work. Then I get home and BOOM! Flagg!

Now I think the Terrordrome thing just took a backseat. I'll get back to it and based on all the feedback I'll definitely be looking for a complete or close-to-complete rather then build it up.
but like I said, Flagg first.

buy one out right complete, yes you'll pay a pretty sixpence buying a piece at a time (unbroken ramparts!), but you'll get killed and eaten on the shipping for each part when it's all said and done. someone may have alluded to this earlier in the post, i didn't go all the way through, but that's my two cents.
