I think we will get Dragonsky with a figure 2 or 3 pk. I'm hoping we get a Lt. Gorky, Sgt. Misha, and Dragonsky 3-pk.
http://www.yojoe.com/action/06/cardedimages/comicpack101.jpg
That would be a perfect three pack. I bet they do that. Now I just need to figure out how I'll get my hands on it...

Looks like he'll fit in well with the rest of the OG, but he's certainly young for a General and not likely to become General Mayhem like I was thinking.
I'll be real disappointed when the rest of the Oktober Guard come out along with con vehicles, the parachute pack, or 2-3 figure packs. Those are always so damned expensive and hard to get for us permanent non-attendees.

I am OK with the figure and he is pretty nice I just don't get how he is a General when he looks like he is 20 some years old. Maybe the finally product will have a more weathered looking face or gray highlights but from what I see in the picture he looks really really young.

Hey now...the leader of north korea has been looked at for years for his tactical knowledge and war planning skills and is now in control of a very poweful military and nuclear armed nation lol and hes barly 20 so why not?

05-14-2012, 04:44 PM
I'm sure you're joking and know "why not." But in case you don't...
Korea is a dictatorship that passes down leadership (unless there is a coup). Besides, we are talking military leaders, not country heads. To hit the rank of general, you have to be not only an officer, but an officer with many years of experience to rise that high. It takes time. Actually, after colonel, it becomes a bit more political--not sure how General Patton ever made it, other than he was a damn fine soldier.
I'm actually pleased to get a new character--I'm cool with mixing in modern sculpts with my current Russian o-ring line-up--but he does look WAY TOO YOUNG. It does NOT make any sense.

I think you guys keep forgetting, Misha and Gorky and the other new Guard most likely won't be in exclusives. They aren't part of the Guard yet when this story takes place. Course soon as I say that, you watch the club will have Dragonsky in a pack and the rest of the new Guard in other packs and this years con comic book will have Dragonsky and Daina telling the story about this mission to the new Guard.
If Dragonsky doesn't come with a vehicle or in a 2 or 3 pack with a Joe or an international figure I'll be shocked.
I like the new General, cool looking figure and good use of the parts. Although it looks like the neck is too long or the head doesn't go down far enough, or they just didn't push it down all the way.

When I heard that we'd be getting a brand new OG fig named General Iron Bear I had envisioned an older guy with a beard. Dunno why, just what the name brought to mind. I think I'll do a head swap with SW. Sgt. Harkas. But otherwise, great fig and part use.
I have faith we'll get Dragonsky and Gorky (and maybe Misha) in the attendee 2- or 3-pack...

Wow, some of you guys obviously know some really old Generals! This guy looks to be right about the correct age. At least when I compare him to the two dozen or so Generals that I've interacted with.

Seems a little weird that the colonel is wearing a tie and breeches while the general has a hooded coat. A missed opportunity.

Same here with the General being called Iron Bear I was expecting a much more rugged older looking harder and edgy figure and this guy looks good but very clean cut.
But the club has posted he will have some gray highlights to his hair, and that the light is filling in his face.

I think that we may get the Oktober Guard as well in the Con Attendee Exclusives.
My guesses:
-Parachute Drop Figure: Big Bear (After all, his military specialty is a Russian Paratrooper)
-LE 650 2-Pack: Ruslan & Wong
-LE 650 3-Pack: Lt. Gorky, Sgt. Misha & Dragonsky
-Club Exclusive Membership figure: Footloose
Of course things will change if we get a vehicle instead. However, just because they have not done it in the past, I would not rule out a 4-Pack with the Parachute Drop Figure to give us all of the team minus Red Star as we already have him from the comic pack with Duke.
Also, I think that the Club will give us an all new torso.chest for Horrorshow as well as a new head. They did state that they do have a lot of new tooling this year. None of the bigger body types would look good in torso/chest area for a Horrorshow figure. Plus, he is the last reveal to give it that wow factor.

Well, perhaps a 5-Pack (Lt. Gorky, Sgt. Misha, Dragonsky, Big Bear, Ruslan & Wong) for the attendee exclusive. I know that they have not done it in the past, but then again, they have done a parachute drop figure for a decade straight. They may just change it up.
Of course, a Big Ben & Big Bear 2-Pack would be very cool too.

Lifeline_MD
05-14-2012, 05:19 PM
I'm expecting that they won't be producing Ruslan or Wong as they're relatively minor OG characters. Mischa is also questionable.
Gorky, Big Bear and Dragonsky are the most known/wanted so I expect a 3-pack of them.
The others MAY appear in a second 3-pack, but I expect a vehicle of some sort as the other excluive.
Admittedly last year they did 2 vehicles a 2 figures, so 6 figures is not out of the question.
Whatever it is, I'm definitely going to have to hunt down in addition to the box set.

Yes. However it has also been a figure. It is free for those that attend and purchased a boxed set or volunteered. However, there are another 4 to 5 figures as well that you have to pay for and are only convention attendee exclusives.
For those that do not know of the extras, see the following:

I thought he was referring to the freebie. I know about the souvenirs. I highly doubt they have a 5-pack one. I mean, I guess if they have a 2 pack and a 3-pack, then it's basically a 5-pack (like in 2009). I'm only interested in the figures that will be related to the theme. I passed on the Micky Mouse CC last year for example.

The biggest problem I see with a 5 pack is going to be the sticker shock from it. 2 figures, ok $40 doesn't seem like a lot of money, f' it, I'm on vacation, but once you hit that $100 mark that's when people really start to analyze what they're getting.

A General who nobody saw before in the comics, but why!?
Because he's a part of the storyline the club made for this convention. Keep in mind that before the last couple of years, the club was always making new characters for the convention sets. Personally, I'm fine with it as long as they get Dragonsky out to us somehow. Even if he's in an FSS or something.

I just can't see the club doing the entire Oktober Guard at one time. They could and it would be awesome if they did. But it would be removing the opportunity for them to use the rest of the team for another con set in the future. And you gotta remember guys, only Dragonsky and Daina survived to be apart of the replacement Guard team. The new guys weren't around with the old Guard that is in the box set.

They should make him the 13th figure in the FSS and tell that to everyone at con so that they have to sign up for the subscription or else have an incomplete OG! I can just imagine the nerd rage that would follow!

This. A thousand times this. The Club is only allowed to produce stuff Hasbro has no intention of producing. When the club makes a figure, they aren't taking away the chance for that figure to show up at retail. The figure already had no chance at retail.

The Club "distributes" these as their Exclusives to their Joe Club website and Convention Exclusives under the permission of Hasbro.
Which Hasbro produces the figures in their factories in China.

Hasbro gives the club a list of characters that they can use, and a list of parts that they can use, but the club does all of the design work, and they are in charge of making any new parts (unless they are using cancelled Hasbro product that is). Then after that, the figures are made in a Hasbro factory, but the club pays for the cost of production.
Yes, Hasbro has veto rights over what can or can't be made, but these are not Hasbro designed figures that they are just deciding to offer through the club instead of at retail.

^ This
The Club designs these figures based on the parts available to them.
The Club goes to Hasbro with an idea of what they want for a Con set. Hasbro says "yay" or "nay".
The Club uses Hasbro's factories because thats where the molds are.
Hasbro has final say over the designs because it is a Hasbro brand, but the Club does all the actual work.
Of course Hasbro is involved, in an overseeing position only, because G.I. Joe is their property and their investment and they want to make sure that only acceptable product is being put out.
If the Club puts something out, chances are that Hasbro has said "yeah, we're not going to do that at retail".
That is why we got the Sigma Six/VvV Jinx. Hasbro has the ARAH-ish one coming for SDCC. If we weren't getting the red Jinx at SDCC, then the Club could have done one if they had access to the parts.
I'm just glad that Hasbro is letting the Club use newer parts. Gives them a wider range of stuff to work with.

Your not doing it right...if your truly collecting then youw oudl have complete collections during thier time, if not complete at this point then your spending a lot of money playing catch up...if your not...then your not doing it right ...any collection since ROC can easily be completed..if your motivated enough to get it done..and spend the money needed to do it...
That's my point how do you complete a collection if the shit don't show up at stores, I never saw half the POC or 30th line in the stores, and i was going daily, who has time for this crap.

I'm a firm "at the store" collector in most cases. I was able to get every single PoC and 30th figure, at cost from either a brick and mortar store or from a friend online.
There's a reason they call it the "Joe Community" not the "GI Joe league of people that sit alone in their basement and write angry letters to Hasblow". One needs to interact with folks, either through local shows, or by making funny and or insightful posts on message boards. Once you spend enough time developing these connections it becomes rather easy to get what you need, and to help others when they can't :D

Well a baton was a pretty common thing for Generals and other higher up ranking officers to have at one time. Like 40...or 50 years ago.

I don't think there's any "chances are" about it. If a figure is showing up through the Club, Hasbro didn't have any intention of popping that figure out anytime within the next 2-3 years, at a minimum.
Which makes all complaints of "goddammit why can't these be single cards" moot. It's the club, or nothing at all unless you're a good customizer (or in good with one).

Only the greatest of Russian generals would ever have a baton.
For many years the Baton of the Field Marshal of the Russian Army was on display at the Apsley House in London. It was described as follows: “gold, and the alternate wreaths of laurel and oak, which twine round it; and the collars round the staff are set with diamonds of great value. The ground is frosted gold.” It was stolen on December 9, 1965, and has not been recovered.
Quite valuable, of the six Russian batons issued under Alexander II (1855-1881), one sold for $903,500 in a New York auction in 2004.

Hello all!
Registration will not be online today. We are in the middle of a server migration that we must have installed before we start registration. If the website is offline off and on, please don't worry.
Just a few notes. When the server comes back up, we will be loading a package matrix so that you can better understand what feature goes with each package.
In addition, when we start registration, it will only be for attending packages, a few days later we will start with the non-attending packages. We need to ensure that everyone who wants to come to the show can get a package.
DO NOT REGISTER FOR AN ATTENDING PACKAGE IF YOU ARE NOT COMING. PACKAGES ARE ONLY CONVERTIBLE AT OUR DISCRETION AND MAY BE CANCELLED IF YOU TRY TO CONVERT. ONLY ADMIN CAN CONVERT YOUR PACKAGE.
You can also pre-order convention T-Shirts and Hats at the same time.
If you have friends that are planning to register as members, they will need an active membership. You can paste this link so that they can sign up with the club. You cannot process a membership at the same time as your registration as these are two completely different systems. Go here to sign up for a new membership.
In addition, we reserve the right to limit quantities.
We hope to see all of you there for G.I. Joe Con 2012!
See you in NOLA!

I'm a little concerned. Especially when the club says they'll open up ordering to non-attendees "in a few days." That's so vaguely non specific that who knows when I can order one.
My only hope is that because of the expense of attending, and the high cost of these sets, that there will still be plenty up for offer when it's finally my turn.
Also, this is a good way to keep scalping on-line stores from buying them all up. Unless BBTS is going to the con, they have to wait like everyone else.

They have to realize that there will be higher demand for these figures than in past years. While not every collector wants them, others have been waiting years for them. And not every fan can make it to the con. In fact, I would imagine that the non-attending sets are HUGE money makers for the club as they are offsetting the costs of the con just like an attender does.
Seriously, if the Club doesn't have enough sets for non-attenders, I'm done. I get that they need to take care of attenders, but don't offer it in your literature if you aren't sure you will have enough for everyone.

They need to say how many of the 600 will be allocated at a minimum level say what 20 sets? for non attending? 100? 4? And they need to lift the ban on boxed set only gets a loose set..in this situation thats assinine cause no one will be able to buy all the extra bag sets they have if only the attenders get the box set and then they don't buy the loose set...

So the question is whether this year's set proves more popular than last. What's more interesting to the attending Joe fan, a revised version of the Mission Brazil set, or the Oktober Guard?
I don't really care, but I love this year's set and would really appreciate the opportunity to buy one.

You can't have one unless you purchase the boxed set. Or you find a tanker who's purchased a boxed set themselves and is willing to buy the bagged one at cost for you.
I've done that twice before and if I can't buy my own this year, will hope to go that route.

Good luck with that...
How do the days break down? What happens on thursday and friday? Can you just show up get your set and leave? I will have to work till 5pm on Friday and it will take at least 9 hours to drive there so it will be around 2-3am when I get there saturday morning. Or will that not work?

Extras are not important, just boxed and bag set, dotn want no bloody hotel room and no custmizing training lol. As long as that can be done and on Satruday there may be hope....however it looks like its going to be like close to 4 tanks of gas lol...thats ~$200 on top of the box/loose set...madness...maybe buying it off ebay at inflated prices would save me back to back 18 hours of non stop driving...

Last year
Registration opened and I ordered my box set on January 5th
Recieved email warning that the sets were almost sold out March 5th and I ordered my bag sets on March 17th
Show started March 31st.
So not sure exactly when the box sets sold out. I know it was before the show started but was after March 5. But I also remember that the base pacakages sold out first and that those at the end were forced to buy Golden ticket pacakges. No clue when the home front packages sold out.
But the bottom line is that the box sets lasted 2 months for sale. I agree and understand that this year there is more interest in the set, more knowledge by the collectors that the set is 25th and that there is less actual time between registration opening and the convention. All of which will play a factor... But there are also 100 more boxed sets available and alot less people able to attend the show because it falls on the weekend before July 4th, a black out week for vacations for many companies and because its in New Orleans which is not nearly as easy to talk a wife/family into as Disney World was :)
Update: Just checked the forums and it appears that someone posted last year on the March 11th the club announced that all regular box sets were sold out and only golden tickets and bag sets were remaining. So Id say the official sell out day for reg box sets was the 11th

It may be difficult as well, but it seems like the best approach is getting together with someone that's going already and have them pick up sets for you. I suppose you'll have to find someone that is taking a friend/spouse along who wasn't intending to buy the boxed and bagged sets, so that might be difficult.
Yeah, I certainly hope I can get a Homefront Hero's package so I don't have to go through that whole headache.

I'm not attending but planned on doing the Homefront hero pack. I read that line as a big FU and feel pretty alienated by it. Maybe this is the year I stop collecting the stuff Master Collector puts out. If I can't get the con set as a non-attendee, it will make it easier to pass on the expensive subscription...and the yearly membership...and the Retaliation figures...Being a completist for the last 30 years hasn't been that much fun.

I also am not attending this year because of the dates. I will be at the mercy of Ebay, but looking at last years prices:
Box set:
Cost $305.. Ebay right after show $450... Ebay today $850
Bag Set:
Cost $185.. Ebay right after show $300.. Ebay Today $500
Python 2 pack:
Cost $45.. Ebay right after show $80... Ebay today $130
Stinger:
Cost $60.. Ebay right after show $120.. Ebay today $275
Water Moccasin:
Cost $35.. Ebay right after show $75... Ebay Today $120
Parachute Figure:
Cost $20.. Ebay right after show $40.. Ebay Today $60
Silver CC Mickey Mouse
Cost $22.. Ebay right after show $60.. Ebay today $80
Carded Dial Tone:
Cost $25.. Ebay right after show $130.. Ebay today $250
12" Space Diver:
Cost $69.. Ebay Right after the show $150.. Ebay today ???
Attendee Armadillo:
Cost Free.. Ebay right after show $20... Ebay today $40
So I figure and hope that even if I miss the homefront pacakge , it will cost me about an extra $150 for my bag/box set.. and an extra $190ish for my one of each 3 3/4" items.. No carded Footloose needed as I am a loose collector. So I will spend $350 extra... Airfare was $324, not to mention hotel, etc.. So I have convinced myself that worst case is Ebay which will actually save me money.. Best case is the date change and the late registration means less attendies and the items make it to the club on Monday following the show.
But that will only happen if they limit quanties and police the lines. Last year there were several people who went through the Cash line then went through the credit line so they could double their quantities and as such almost everything was sold out Friday morning.

Its a jacket over a long shirt - and neither look anything like Horror Show's quilted coat. Also, it is missing any kind of web gear. Even the RPG is not a traditional RPG - now that may very well be a more recent Russian heavy tank version, but the original was the good ole standard RPG that you get with a 30th Cobra trooper. The head looks fine, as well as the legs, but I guess I was hoping for something more novel for the upper body.

I think it looks pretty good. My biggest complaint would be that his mustache doesn't really look quite right. It should kind of curl up at the ends.
What is the jacket from? Did the club make that themselves? I can't figure out what existing piece would fit over the Resolute Roadblock body.

uhhh... the head sculpt looks good but that is about it.
Good thing those IG's have the right RPG, The jacket is leaving a lot to be desired, between the skirt and all the piping it looks too broken up.
A simple big puffy jacket would have been fine. It also would have made him seem more bulky. he looks like he has been on a diet. the skirt is the most distracting part of him.
Without that head sculpt and the RPG he would not look like Horrorshow to me.

I have no clue what this amazingly bad kit bashed thing is supposed to be but without the head it's unrecognizable. Last years con set is miles ahead of this one. I'm new to the whole Joe convention thing. I've gone to local shows and SDCC for years, since I live in L.A. I've never felt the urge to travel alone across country to an official Joe convention. I am interested in this year's exclusive offering(s), though.
My suggestion for how they offer these things? If you're a non-attendee, you should only be able to get the bagged sets. If you're an attendee you should get the boxed set and perhaps the opportunity for a bagged set as well.
This would give people an incentive for going and still offer non-attendees a reasonable chance at getting the exclusive product. Of course, I couldn't give a rat's ass about packaging, so this would be ideal for me.

I get your logic, but the Club is trying to maximize profits. The box sets create an excuse for that. The bag sets are really just for people who are not openers so that they can have a MOC set and a loose set. That is why they began to sell them in the first place and why they only sell them if you buy a boxed set.

I was just reading the FAQ and something caught my eye, it could just be an error in wording or it could mean that there is no free vehicle but instead it is a free figure this year.
"Question: Is there a limit to number of home front hero packages you can purchase? If I attend the show, can I purchase an american heroes set, and also order home front hero set?
Answer: We reserve the right to limit all quantities. If you order a non-attending package, you will not receive the free attendee figure with that set. To get this item, you must pick it up at the show. You cannot do an attending and non-attending order at the same time. You will have to process two different registrations if you decide to go this route. Limits of souvenirs are based on attendees."
could just be an oversight, the brochure says this:
BONUS ITEM: American Hero attendees will receive a special convention piece not available with the non-attending pack.
which is the same thing last year's brochure said.

I guess what kind of irks me about this figure is he has modern weapons and gear, and the storyline is supposed to take place in the past.

not in Russia, all they had for weapons were basically copies of US technology and not the most current stuff either. They just had a whole lot more than the US did. Russian equipment was built to be sturdy and reliable not high tech or cutting edge.
My main point here is that they are not even sticking to their own storyline. want to modernize Horrorshow fine go ahead, I don't mind the new Voltar at all, he is kooky and it makes sense for a villain to have a goofy uniform.
this torso combination just has too many pieces and seams. it does not mesh well.

Well that RPG does look like alot a Panzerfaust 3, they came out with those in the 70's. Although it was a West German weapon not East German/Warsaw pact.
I don't hate the club's Horrowshow, but I don't love either. It works well enough and to be fair it would be of been crazy expensive for them to have made a full body and everything for Horrowshow. It's not 100% but it works for me, now if only the club would let me give them my money already!

I agree. I think it is a Panzerfaust 3. The fact that it's not Warsaw Pact doesn't bother me either, since special forces troops have always been known to use enemy weapons when needed. I remember reading a book about LRRPs in Viet Name and a lot of them would carry AK-47's since it was easy to get ammo, and they were reliable.

Renegades Cobra Commander Coat skirt.
Horrorshow must've a small waist to fit that.

He looks fine, but he's probably the weakest link in a very strong set. I was hoping to see something a little closer to this:

It's not about change for me. I just think it would look better with some more tan. It's just saturated in green to me.
I agree with you. Again I like the figure but green on tan would have looked nicer than the green on green IMO.

man i gotta say i am seriously let down with horrorshow. I expected somehthing much better. I mean the other oktober guard were pretty cool but something just is not right with ol horrorshow. ah well its moot since i cant afford a set anyways.

I would agree that some tan pants would have been perfect but otherwise a great take on the character.

The Horror Show was going to be the make or break for me buying this and I was at about 85 to 90% sure I wasn't It just got bumped to 100%..Not buying it! There have been just way too many cool customs of the character and all of the characters for that matter, and this set just looks like they tried to copy cool customs on this site and others and did about as good a job as I could...So I will...and it will be fun and whole lot less expensive!

What an unbelievably depressing ending to the reveals. Seriously.
When they were revealing the FSS figures, the reason they held off on Big Boa til last was because he kicks fucking ass, this figure just sucks it. I know they wanted him to be taller than the other figures but making this odd, 40 piece kitbash to make that happen reminds me of the scene in the Little Rascals movie where the kids all stand on each others shoulders and wear a coat to look like a tall man:
The Little Rascals - Bank Loan - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zFTPilgk0I)
The Good: The awesome head sculpt.
The Bad: Everything else.
Let's analyze, he has the lower Legs of Resolute Roadblock/Night Adder/Big Boa. Theses boots look 100% inappropriate with Cold War era Russian gear. These were undoubtably used to make him taller, but honestly I would have rather he look great and been the same height as the other figures than some weird chop shop frankenstein to make him taller.
The skirt piece makes it appear as if his waist is more narrow than his knees, I don't think there is a man alive with anatomy that looks like that.
Then the Shadow Tracker coat, this photo tries to hide it, but if you look at the gold pad on his shoulder you can clearly make out that the coat can't even close over the torso and the shoulder opening is about a 1/4 inch higher than where his shoulder is, meaning that when you take off the coat, his is going to have a neck resembling a giraffe.
I'm not even gonna go in to the whole modern weapons and too-green issues, others have already covered that.
This really bums me out, because as soon as this set was announced he was the figure I was most looking forward to and I thought for sure they were trying to save the best for last.
