A purple/gold IG Body (think like battlearmor CC) with A new Voltar head...its the most simple option. Form there you could do a Resolute Destro in Gold/Purple with a new Voltar head...really just about anything...it just needs the new head and th epossibilites are pretty vast.

That's a good point. The IG/Armored CC body wouldn't be too bad, and it would keep a bit of consistency in the IG ranks. Voltar is actually one guy I wouldn't mind seeing re-imagined as long as his head is spot on, so something like Resolute Destro's body wouldn't be too bad.

I don't think they can pull off an accurate version, so I guess we can call it "re-imagined." Course, my definition of accurate means mswi accurate (or at least as accurate as I would try to do). By those definitions, the only thing they can do accurately is tiger force/ night force (which is exactly why they should do those, and should do them accurately).

That thing is no where near the same as the TRU IG Set one..sorry try again...the TRU IG one is perfect for me dio of Castle Destro where he goes down to th wellto sacriffice Lady Jaye to that well monster with the eye down in the lava...I loved that epidose lol...the mystery of that place and Destro was always a thing for me!

The more I look at the picture of this newer one, the more I think the funky colors are the victim of photoshop and not so much the paint apps that we will see on the final product. I can't tell if it's supposed to be a really dark gray or black with a crap ton of photoshop filters on top.

I like this one. If will be interesting to see the figure in hand though to get a better idea of his actual colors. He could very well be a true black and gold figure as these are just photoshop mock-ups and both of those colors are very tough to accurately adjust too.

My 2017 con set though is looking much better.

As long as there are sets left, they'll make it to the store (bagged and boxed), but you can't just buy a bagged set. You need to buy the boxed set first. Bagged sets can only be bought as 'extras' (one per boxed set)

Whether they have any left is anybody's guess. They're still selling sets from a few years back, yet last year's Mission Brazil set is log gone.

They might have had some bagged ones left now you mention it (in fact I seem to remember getting an e-mail saying as much!), but their dumb rules meant that if someone missed out on the box set, they couldn't pick up a bagged one. I think it is a one-to-one ratio too. That's why a lot of 'Tankers pick up bagged sets for other members who can't make it or afford the boxed set.

You can buy one bagged set for every boxed set you buy, but after a while (like six months) they put the left over bagged sets up on the store. However, you still need to have bought a boxed set to get it.

I'm getting the boxed set and another Tanker is getting my bagged one, but I'm loving this new IG and would really prefer to have three. Just like I would only want three of the four cold weather IGs we're getting also. Hmmm...

I'm not interested in the IGs at all. I would rather have had the OG be released as a 7-pack, but I knew the club was more like.y to release them than Hasbro. I like the OG, but I don't like the IG, and I'm not paying a hi price for this set. I'm glad, thigh, that the club is doing it, because ME OG figures have been needed. They are gonna look nice in some of the collections I've seen here on the Tank.

I can't wait to find out what the vehicles are going to be. Since Winter Operations seems to be the theme. It just begs for some awesomeness and the theme would be the perfect chance for the club to make Iceberg and Frostbite. If Hasbro always makes them have atleast one Joe in the con every year, then it makes the most sense. The two arctic specialists were missing.

from what we have seen we get two IG army builders and two other figures in the set. If General Mayhem is one of those in the set and not a con exclusive announced on thursday night... I wonder what the chances are we could get a Sgt. Major this time around?

Really loving the long coat IG, I think for once I'm not going to pass on the con set. I'm excited about every reveal so far and wouldn't hesitate to buy each at retail so yeah I want them all. Short skirt IG is still the weakest but I like it enough to army build six to twelve had they been released at retail.

Darklon was Destro's cousin, and pretty much the "black sheep" of the family. He generally spent more time working against Destro (to seize power for himself) than working for him. Also, he looked very silly.

Yes playful, it´s a MG3 and I think the size is very accurate.

I've played too many world war II games, use to thinking MG-42 when I see that gun. But then they are almost completely identical externally anyhow. The MG-3 is a modernized verison of the MG-42 and fires a larger round with a much higher rate of fire. But with a toy of it you can switch the name and call it either. Although I guess you could say it is the MG-3 since it comes with the .50 cal ammo belt it makes it the larger caliber machine gun.

Call me dumb, but I just noticed that the Adventure Team 12" exclusive is "vs. M.A.R.S." Because AT generally has nothing to do with GI Joe vs Cobra, I had previously read this as something to do with outer space. :D

In the Joe Club's universe the Adventure Team is always fighting Mars. It's their way to tie classic Joes in with the ARAH mythos.

They haven't had a true cross over yet (since the Adventure team stories are taking place in the 70's) but I think they are supposed to be in the same universe.

From what I understood, it is the same M.A.R.S. that Destro owns. However, it is before his time. Destro inherited M.A.R.S. from his ancestors. It is very much like how the AT was before A.R.A.H. and Joe Colton ret-conned into the older '60s universe.

The first IG they introduced (light grey) was underwhelming and uninteresting to me, but tolerable. The second one (dark grey, long jacket) was actually pretty solid and acceptable.

This red one, though. Wow. Disgusting. Intolerable. I'm buying a set, maybe two, and will be piecing these particular figures out.

I dislike the Santa Clause looking ribbon on the bottom of the jacket. It seems too thick.

hmmm not a fan of this red one. The black helm on red with grey hilights looks really off... would have worked better if they had a black helm with black hilights on the coat or black coat. Or just change the black of the helmet to a different color...theres just zero black below his neck to even out.

In the story, "Bear Trap", they are in Siberia. They do not need to even be Cryogenically Frozen but very cool thought on this and would be a very neat Joe plot in the comics or future cartoon.

Would be nice if all the ig's had the same helmet colors. Bit too much variety for my tastes, prefer a bit more uniformity in my troops. May try and go 40/60 with someone on this set for the OG, will need to see the price and my budget when the time comes.

The IGs are growing on me. Really the first one is the worst of the lot and I really like the latest one. What will make or break it for me is the remaining three figures. if horrorshow isn't a part of the set then I don't see the point since I won't be able to make it to the show to get anything I can't order from home. also, if Voltar or Darklon (preferably Voltar) isn't a part of the set that is really going to seriously affect whether or not I get it.

I believe all of the figures and mainly the IG's will not be this vibrant in color. this is just Photoshop done by the club. Once in hand they will be not as bright and look much better. Like the bottom of each figure says.

Get in line I see this and the heavy weapons IG being very popular to army build. I'm just glad I will have at least 4 each with my boxed set and bagged set. I mean these are Photoshop mock-ups and they look good the in hand product is going to be great looking.

Indeed. I've been stung by the "this is only a prototype and does not reflect the final product" caveat on other toy lines before only to receive the same crap as in the photos I first saw.

The reactions in this thread are proof enough that these club images could affect people's desire to own this set quite a bit.

Yeah, I'm a big oktober guard fan, and I really don't overly dislike the ig ones (except the gray one), but I figured up how much they would be worth to me to pay for and it came out to like 130 including the nice box. So that's the sad thing. 20+ dollars a figure. That's a hard one to swallow for figures that can only come somewhat close to their right look (shrage is pretty good I must say, the rest of the og are at varying levels of non accuracy with one horribly off brekhov). And 20 bucks each for 4 of those gray resolute cobra commanders with ig heads?

It's certainly a polarizing set. I was 'in' the moment I saw Daina, and each OG reveal strengthened my resolve (even Brekhov!), but when the IG stuff started coming I just drifted off into "nah" land.

It's times like these that I wish it was within the realms of possibilty for me to attend the con and actually see these figures first hand, as I know from experience that getting eyes on the things can make the world of difference. No photo can ever truly show a product at it's best.

just realized something (someone else probably already posted this...but 100+ pages of posts)....

Most of The Oktober Guard was killed off in Special Missions 26, which had a cover date of Oct 1989 (which means it came out in the summer of 89...Marvel's cover dates back then were about 3 months ahead of actual release date). The collector's club description of the set says:

OKTOBER GUARD Box Set: The 1990s brought us many captivating Cold War stories but this one was kept Top Secret for over two decades! Recently declassified documents revealed the original Oktober Guard (G.I. Joe’s Russian and Warsaw Pact equivalent) team’s “Special Mission” in Siberia to rescue their captured General from the ruthless Iron Grenadiers in OPERATION: BEAR TRAP!

A careful reading of this doesn't say the operation takes place in the 1990s, just that cold war staries were revealed during then. But this story wasn't revealed in the 90s, but now in 2012.

The Iron Grenadiers were introduced in issue 69, cover date of March 1988. That only leaves a year and a half of time for this adventure to take place.

The only problem with Mayhem is that his convention figure looked remarkably cartoony. It was definitely an ARAH-sytled figure in the worst sense. Slayer had a far superior sculpted head - others have as well, I believe - that would make sense. The only problem is that the Club obviously prefers to re-use old sculpts and rework them to fit ME neck posts. If that happens, we will get a general that looks odd with all of the other figures.

I dun care if he is too catroony lol..If i can't have the cancelled TRU IG Destro..I will take any form of General Mayhem as an acceptable substition..

Mayhem used a Gnawgahyde head, so if they do go with him for this set, I assume they will use the new Dreadnok seven pack head.

I have an alternate idea: They could use a modified Guillotine (http://www.yojoe.com/action/06/guillotine.shtml) head, possibly whether it's Mayhem OR Voltar.

New tooling does not always denote new scultping. The tooling had to be modified in order to make them 25th compatible so in essence that is new to me lol...as long as they are new heads and not reused 25th anni heads..thats good for our modern era figure collections.

I am thinking that the older heads form the Oktober Guard comic packs in the mid 2000s are too small for the 4-inch ME era figs. I think that although they look similar, they are new and larger to be more proportionate.

New tooling has nothing to do with original sculpts. When they take an existing part and modify it, they either have to re make the tool or modify it. Either way that results in new tooling.

I'll still order the box set if I can't make it. But I SO want the con exclusives if they're OG affiliated. Also, I wanted to meet a bunch of you tankers. I wish they would hurry up with the reveals. This has drug on long enough.

I think that they want to get the registration up as soon as possible. It may be delayed as they are most likely still waiting on a certain guest to confirm the dates. Regardless, I think that anywhere between next Wednesday though next Friday, we will have registration up. That means that will will see a reveal Today, Monday and the last reveal will be either Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday of next week. Hopefully sooner.

It will probably be the same this year. Personally, I think that since the ME 4-inch figures are the current selling, the Club will sell out as they did with the 2009 and the 2011 sets. If it were the o-ring or any other scale, I think that the Club would not sell out. Most, collect the ME style now along with the other scales but since the ME is the current thing, they will sell out.

I think the boxed sets sold out before the Con, and the bagged sets sold out Friday at the con, (as well as everything else).

Now we can truly create the Special Mission comics all over as the Oktober Guard fought against one of their main villains in Voltar and the I'G' Troopers. Voltar is actually the only villian that we have in figure form from that fought the Oktober Guard in the comics.

Head sculpt rules, hate the rest of the parts choices. The sad reality of the club is if they can't afford to make new parts, then in some cases it's probably better to just not make it at all.

I don't want to be one of those people that just complains over nothing. But seriously, he doesn't come with his condor or backpack. Half of him is made of the most maligned thing in GI Joe history, the stupid accelerator suit, and the POC Beachhead legs make no sense with a random cord running down his leg.

Some figures can successfully make use of a kitbashed parts selection, but other times it quite obvious that the parts originated from too many different sources. The original Voltar looked sharply uniformed and sort of ceremonial/militant this figure looks like he's a ninja, futuristic spaceman, navy SEAL or something. I'm really happy we finally are getting a new Voltar, I just feel that even with reused parts there was a way to do this better.
