Right, I meant that the main army builder in the set hasn't been less then six.
Ah, gotcha. We're definitely going to see six of the figure in this set, agreed. But we may see 3 named characters, and 1 army builder, or 1 named character (so 7 all told for the set) and a second smaller army builder like last year.
I'm not sure which I'd like most. I love my 4 Python Tele-vipers and my 12 Python Troopers. It helps vary the display and it cuts costs on the set. But if we have a shot at Darklon, Metalhead and Voltar... well then, **** army building! Gimme Gimme!
Is it 3 yet?

No, but whatever the other team is, it needs an army builder. Thought they could throw a curve ball and give us Tiger Force Steel Brigade. That would actually be kind of cool.
Thanks, I only have one set from the cons so far and it does follow that parameters, I think I am tired of picking up cobra army builders. BRING ON THE JOES!!

There were two Tele-Vipers in last year's set.
They did have 2 of the Tele-Vipers, but they were separate characters. Here is some info for others that may have not known:
-The regular Python Tele-Viper from the boxset is an troop builder.
-The Python Para Tele-Viper Officer is an individual. Not an army-builder.
Here is his FILE CARD info:
Python Patrol Comunications
Code Name: Python Tele-Viper Officer
File Name: Unknown
Primary Military Specialty: Communications
Secondary Military Specialty: Infantry/Parachute Qualified
Birthplace: Unknown
The Python Tele-Viper Officer was once captured on assignment in North America and, upon being freed, was banished to Python Patrol headquarters in Brazil as punishment. His spirit unbroken, he vowed to prove he has what it takes to gain the respect of Cobra Commander, regardless. He has become something of a miricle worker, keeping cutting edge equipment in perfect working condition despite jungle heat and humidity. His secondary goal of cracking the encryption codes of listen g stations right in his own backyard remain elusive, although hd is beginning to suspect it was an impossible side mission designed to keep him busy permanently.
Being signed to such an inhospitable post as the Amazon means he not only has to keep his team at peak efficiency, but also their equipment. This often involves under radar reflective parachutes to drop stealthy into locations his team has secured. This allows him to make emergency repairs, perform surprise inspections, and personally deliver information in case of telecommunications failure, all without breaking stealth protocols. Nevertheless, can he keep his team functioning when G.I. Joe comes and turns them off once and for all?

The Officer was a Para-drop figure and not part of the con boxed set. The boxed set included two PP Televiper figures.

We are positive its the IGs and not Tiger Force?
No one is positive, however the Club did state in their newsletter that there that will be 2 "special Missions" teams involved. Other than individuals here and there from other armies, the Iron Grenadiers were the only teams to fight against the Oktober Guard.
Here is a list of everyone associated (friend or foe) with the Oktober Guard in the "Special Missions" comics:
The characters that worked with the Oktober Guard in the Special Missions Comics
1. Airborne
2. Avalanche
3. Cap. Bulgakov
4. Chuckles
5. Counter Revolutionary El Jefe
6. Cutter
7. Deep Six
8. Doctor Krim
9. Frostbite
10. General Lom
11. Hawk
12. Iceberg
13. Keel Haul
14. Leatherneck
15. Lifeline
16. Lift Ticket
17. Lt. Falcon
18. Muskrat
19. N.A.B.M. Dilbert Swinson
20. Recondo
21. Repeater
22. Roadblock
23. Scarlett
24. Shipwreck & Polly
25. Shockwave
26. Slip Stream
27. Snake-Eyes
28. Snow Job
29. Torpedo
30. Wet Suit
31. Wild Bill
The foes that fought against the Oktober Guard in the Special Missions Comics that are not Iron Grenadier related
1. Baroness

3. Cobra Troopers
4. Firefly
5. Ice Vipers
6. Sarawak Sally
7. Techno Vipers

That should be fun!
Also, I had quickly read the 2 Tele-Vipers and just thought of the 2 different versions. Yes, you are correct, they had the 2 in the box set and another version as the para drop figure,

I still say it would be strange to have an entire con set with extras and no Joe characters at all. There would have to at least be one with a vehicle, two-pack, or para-drop figure.
bluesparrow
05-08-2012, 02:48 PM
I could see it being two named IG and two army builders. Like a couple of officers or techs then four grunts. That would fit with the cancelled IG boxset theory.
I really am hoping for no Destro. Or if there is, let it be moneybags Destro repainted as an IG Destro. That would be badass, the original moneybags Destro's color scheme was poor IMO.

Is anyone denying there will be extras?
I think the theme is in question (IG vs Who??) and how they'll be dividing the Box Set of 15 (6 Oktober Guards definitely, but which ones) and how many troop builders will be included (1 set of 6, and 3 unique characters, or one unique enemy, 2 of one troop type, and 6 of another).
The only other argument I see is if this "Hacker/Gorky" page turns out to be one of the 6 OGs in the Boxed set, it means one of the "original" 6 ill be edged out of the boxed set ONLY. It is not a guarantee that any character left out of the boxed set wouldn't get released as a Con Exclusive some other way.
So, for now, it's all speculative fun.

This wouldn't work though since there are four different figure slots on the preview page.
Here is one thing that I could see though:

Destro, one red long coat IG, one gray long coat IG, and six of the white short coats. That way they'd get to use that whole canceled pack.

[QUOTE=Starfighter;3593976Darklon never faced the OG, but was in the Special Mission Comics, if it is not Darklon, it could be an Iron Grenadier specialized trooper, see below for example[/QUOTE]
Yes and No.
Darklon never faced the Oktober Guard in the actual Special Missions title, but he did face off with them in G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #105. That was the storyline that featured the reconstituted Oktober Guard (including Sgt Misha and Lt Gorky) teaming up with a group of Joes and the native Tucaros. Darklon led the IG forces that opposed them.

OKTOBER GUARD Box Set: The 1990s brought us many captivating Cold War stories but this one was kept Top Secret for over two decades! Recently declassified documents revealed the original Oktober Guard (G.I. Joe’s Russian and Warsaw Pact equivalent) team’s “Special Mission” in Siberia to rescue their captured General from the ruthless Iron Grenadiers in OPERATION: BEAR TRAP!

I have a feeling it'll be 2 and 2. No one likes an odd numbers army builder, and why would one of the long coats be a character, and the other be a troop builder? If they are just reproducing the canceled boxed set, I really expect Destro will be the only unique character (which is lame).

That is a pretty cool story. I wonder who the General is? If it was the other way around, IGs getting their general from the OG, then it would definitely be Voltar, but as it is, do you think it will just be some made up Russian general? If that is the case, do you think there will be a figure for him?

No way....no way... purple Voltar and a Purple Dragonsky ftw! You can't have a purple dragonksy and not have a purple Voltar!
I know that there are others that considered the purple I.G. Officer from the Senior Rankings 3-Pack to be Voltar with just an I.G. Head.

I'm pretty sure the Communist Government fell in 1991 - so maybe the copy should read "1990 brought us many Cold War stories..."
In fact, the Cold War was really over a few years before that, with the Perestroika movement and Glasnost easing a lot of the tension between the Joes and Oktober Guard long before the actual fall of the USSR. By 1993 Colonel Krimov would call his own codename "politically embarrassing".
This Nit has been picked, tongue-in-cheek, because I'm let down by this reveal.

Dammit. What fugly colors... Good thing I have plenty of black dye! With a proper black, red and gold color scheme this shouldn't be bad at all.
Voltar and Darklon must be coming too since the I.G.s are officially confirmed now.
We can only hope...
i don't understand why people are surprised it's IG's. I like it and was bummed that it never made it as a 5 pack to the stores. Very happy to be getting this figure as an army builder.
I don't think anyone is surprised that it's the IG's. A lot of us are die-hard fans of the IG's... but amongst those IG fans, the cancelled 5-pack was almost universally loathed for it's shitty colors and lack of creativity. Many of us were hoping for the PoC/30th IG in black, gold and red.
Why's that?
I'll be supremely pissed if Voltar is in this set.
LOL - I feel exactly the opposite. I'll be supremely pissed if Voltar is NOT in this set.

Was hoping for the more iconic color scheme. Not a fan of the gray, and burgundy reinvention. IGs to me will always be black, red and gold.
I love me some IGs, but the color has put me off a bit. I really didn't like the PoC Grenadiers because of the color (and their horrid "guns). I like the design a lot, but wish it were in black and gold. I seriously hope we get those other two IG designs with the long coats.

Yeah, this guy sucks. And the others in that box set suck too. The ig's in the cancelled cobra commander skirt will suck. The destro will suck. The only ig's in that set that are cool is the ones in the resolute destro dress. But I didn't expect any better from the club, "re-imagined" to me just means "no connection to my childhood and therefore no connection to my current collecting hobby." But hey, the guard (which is about 50/50 so far for re-imagining and accuracy), let's see more of that!

Thats a stretch, as long as they do 25th/ME/POC stylized updated figures its a win no matter what/who it is or what color...once they start making them MU/Retaliation vehicle articulated crap with springloaded accessories...then they are obviously on the wrong path......but with what figures to release...where and when and in what color...thats a different story lol

No way Hasbro, the club, or even we could make a 15 figure set that *everyone* thinks is 100% awesome.
The Oktober Guard is fantastic. I love them, and I'm on board with how the club is putting them out.
The Iron Grenadiers are a cool faction with lots of potential. But the 5-pack was a no-tooling cash grab frankenstein with severe missteps (ROC Destro and non-traditional IG color scehemes).
Hasbro's been pushing gray on this faction since the 2003 Iron Grenadier repaint from Spy Troops. We saw the burgandy for the first time in Sigma 6, and again with the 30th Destro repaint... and frankly, the colors stink.
Black red and gold may be cliche, but it pops and it is the color of the faction the way Cobra is primarily blue. I truly will only keep the long coat IG in the traditional colors. Because that *is* an awesome look for the figure. If they try to pass off a Gray and Burgandy 30th VAMP as the exclusive vehicle, tho, I'll be happy to pass on it.

Like someoen else said its a cool take for artic/cold weather scenarios. Who dosent alreayd have 450 black red and gold IGs at this point anyway? (I got 25 more then enough of the standard troopers). I guess that's why fans get upset when they release Cobra troopers with a blue color scheme.
Sure there might be more that deviate from the standard red/black and gold but that will always be iconic pallet that the group is best known for. You want to make more fans happy than not, stay as close to the original as possible. It's a pretty easy recipe.

Believe me, I'm the first guy in line when a new blueshirt is released, and I would continue to buy every 30th one I saw if they kept putting them into cases. The thing is though, if they made a Snow Serpent in Cobra Blue, I wouldn't be all that interested.
If this guy was painted like a regular IG, (a) It would look almost identical to the one we already got, and (b) it wouldn't make sense for an arctic theme.

I definitely see your point but even the Snow Serpent had navy blue boots, and navy blue parachute pack, maintaining some of classic pallet. This figure though is yellow, burgundy, brown and grey.
And although I'm not a environmental themed sets (I think they limit what you can do with the figure) I'd be much happy if they took the Snow Serpent approach and accented the figure with a true gold, and a more vivid red.

Well, the web gear on this guy is just as gold as the web gear on the 25th IG, and he has a lot of red on him (we'll see what shade it is when we have them in hand, from this picture it does look too light), and his scabbard is black, so I think he has enough nods to the regular IGs to make him pretty recognizable.

Sure there might be more that deviate from the standard red/black and gold but that will always be iconic pallet that the group is best known for. You want to make more fans happy than not, stay as close to the original as possible. It's a pretty easy recipe.
Especially when the Club themselves have been pushing Black, Red, and Gold as their IG colors the last few years. General Mayhem set, anyone? Undertow and Nullifier Club figures?

When the 5 pack IG set was canceled people were screaming bloody murder. Now the club working with Hasbro is at least getting these out with a set and the happiness is 50/50. I am not surprised at all that these are the IG's we are getting. Like someone said earlier I wish we were getting 4 of the long coat ones instead of the short coat but oh well no biggie. I'm sure we will get 2 or 4 long coats in the set, I'm sure we will find out Thursday.

Cold War aint over far from over...its just on "hiatus" like Renegades cartoon lol. The Russian bear sleeps today...and will awaken a new under the rise of new soviet resurgence.....they are making paper and going to be ballers in the streets soon enough...don't count them out yet! Red Dawn is just around the corner!
Russia will always be a major regional power, but it won't be a world superpower again.
China, though...
Anyway, I like this figure, but it isn't wowing me like the Oktober Guard. Those ones are obviously the main draws of the set. :)

I love blue Cobra Troopers, heck I'm still buying 25th and 30th blue shirts.
As for the new IG figure I gotta say at first I prepared to dislike this figure, but then saw it's "winter ops". I can buy that, snow camo = grey...okay sure thats cool. I can always use more snow troops! Also explains the OG being more buttoned up in apperance.
So I guess this pretty much means the bad guys in this set will have two army builders maybe. Long coat IG's and these IG's with a skirt and two named IG leaders and the captured General. If that is the case then my money is on Darklon and Voltar. Or more likely it'll 6 skirt IG's, 2 long coats and one named IG leader.
Heck we have a chance of seeing Ferrets and Nullifiers now too, any of the IG that was out before the original Oktober Guard died. hmm I bet the paradrop figure will be Targats or Annihlators. Anyways what ever they do for this years JoeCon it certainly got far more interesting today.

I'd much sooner have a Cover Girl, Big Boa, Quarrel, TNT, Iron Klaw, Top Side, Nano BAT and Slice (plus a few lesser figures) than a "Flash Gordon's greatest enemies set"... That's where my money will be going! Damn.. those OG figures were looking pretty decent until this reveal. If the Con-only exclusives are Nullifiers and TARGATS, and they follow this colour scheme... ewww (not that they had winning liveries to begin with).

I look at it like this. The club is making figures like all the Oktober Guard with new head sculpts. Plus we have Dragonsky and Horrorshow to go and I'm sure they will have new items as well. That costs money so the club to offset that cost always makes an army builder. These 5 pack IG's were canceled by Hasbro so the club and Hasbro worked out a deal I assume to get these out there for the hardcore collectors like myself. Sense they were already made it saves the club money to keep the price point at $305-$310 for the set. The 5 pack had 2 short coat IG, 1 medium, and 1 long with Destro leading them. The medium and long coat IG figures are great looking I have seen them in pictures and they are much better than this short coat. I still like the short coat but wow the long coat will blow people away I believe. What will upset me the most is I see us getting another Destro and not Voltar. The 5 pack had a Destro in it and they may just use that. I hope I am wrong and we get a Voltar, I guess we will just wait and see.

It wont look tooo ovelry awesome, but maybe that cancelled IG set Destro with a new casted head for Volatar...i'd take that easily if it had to be Destro again and only way to get Voltar updated. If is that Destro...no loss...still a great advasary for the OG.

This is exactly what I want to see and of what I think that we will get. Just because Destro was part of the 5-Pack, does'nt mean that we will get him here. The club picks and chooses their figures so I believe that the Boxset of 15 will be the following:
Voltar
Short Skirt I.G. x 4
Medium Coat I.G. x 2
Long Coat I.G. x 2
Stormavik
Diana
Col. Brekhov
Shrage
Dragonsky
Horrorshow
Also, I think that we are getting:
2-Pack with Ruslan & Wong
3-Pack with Lt. Gorky, Sgt. Misha & Red Star
Parachute figure will be Big Bear (that is his Russian military specialty)

I don't understand why people are so caught up on the black, gold, and red for the IGs. There were tons of classic IGs that didn't have that color scheme.
Nullifier (v1) (http://www.yojoe.com/action/88/nullifier.shtml)
Voltar (v1) (http://www.yojoe.com/action/88/voltar.shtml)
Annihilator (v1) (http://www.yojoe.com/action/89/annihilator.shtml)
T.A.R.G.A.T. (v1) (http://www.yojoe.com/action/89/targat.shtml)
Darklon (v1) (http://www.yojoe.com/action/89/darklon.shtml)
Metal-Head (v1) (http://www.yojoe.com/action/90/metalhead.shtml)
Undertow (v1) (http://www.yojoe.com/action/90/undertow.shtml)
In fact, there are more guys that don't have black/gold/red then guys that do. These are supposed to be arctic IGs. It makes sense that they would wear white or gray.
Speaking only for myself, I would have been very happy with any of the characters you listed in either their original color scheme or in the black, gold and red color scheme. But because they used the classic-styled IG helmet a lot of us feel like they should be in the classic colors. Making it an Arctic set just feels like a way to explain the lousy colors.
No matter what, I'm getting the set - it just would have been cool if they saved me the trouble of repainting them! :D

wow I couldn't have been more glad to have stopped collecting GI Joes this year. What ever happened to the figure subscription service did that just fall off the face of the earth without existence to live a day of no production after the whole club fiasco? I personally just can't fathom giving a crook club like GIJCC any more money because of said issues in the past and personal issues. I thought the Mission Brazil II set last year was fucking amazing and couldn't have made a better set but now I think I will just turn towards something better and just stick with sideshow figures. 3 3/4 figures are starting to become overrated once you start to collect more expensive items. Don't get me wrong Joe has some expensive stuff too but not on the same quality par as sideshow or some of the 3rd party transformer companies. With hasbro alone and the TFCC and GIJCC all of their stuff has some serious QC issues. I bought a loose bagged set of the 09 crimson set and two of my vipers had two left hands and one of which had two right feet??? where the fuck is the QC on official collector releases, and last year my MBII set came with extra filecards?? seriously some people need to be fired and then take a step back and realize that we are customers and we support their company but when they decide to not give a rats ass about us and only care about the money we spend then it give me a sense of not wanting to ever do business with them.

To my understanding, the club orders the sets from China where they are produced and inspected. So, QC wouldn't necessarily be their fault. I also understand that they hold extras back for these very reasons and exchange/replace them if you contact them in a timely fashion. I guess they could inspect each and every figure, but would you really want to pay for that?

Honestly I would, because then I would have that kind of insurance of knowing that I'm paying for a quality toy not some mis-hap that may take up to a month to correct and even so I bought my set through a 3rd party source (yes I know not the smartest move but I had someone who had a membership who had previously purchased the set in order for me to get the loose one) I just think with the cost of these sets they honestly could do a better job of making sure that everything is kosher before they release it to the public and really it only takes 10-30 seconds to notice a problem with any individual figure hell they fucking pack them in the bags or the foam inserts, hardly time consuming on their part. It may be true that the majority of these sets are produced in China or some outsourced country because its cheaper labor and more cost effective for the GIJCC to just go through them, if I had money and a choice I would just make a company here in america and support all the poor people who are struggling for food or money by giving them a job. I dunno I just am not happy with hasbro or its collector affiliates at all this year.

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7091/7162512182_a7fbc38a08_b.jpg
Color wise they look like a pretty decent match, but I gotta say the paint choice on the original version's legs are much better in tying together the whole look. Also the darker helmet probably would have helped too.
Overall I don't hate this figure, but I really have no interest in getting the 4 IG spots taken up by this unreleased pack. It's comparatively boring with how good most of the OG figure reveals have been thus far.

The original version's legs would have been Resolute Cobra Commander's.
This one looks like 30th Techno-Viper's.
I really don't like the brown color at all. They should have changed that.

I know how everyone feels about another Destro figure and all, but I still think that a red masked Destro which makes him look like Red Skull would go great with those Iron Grenadier: Elite Troopers.
Future Floor Acrylic + a few drops of red food coloring should do ya just fine. Then the rest of us can go ahead and not buy another Destro. http://s70.photobucket.com/albums/i116/hellion42/smilies/thumbsup.gif
I'm feeling pretty meh towards both the color and the design on this IG. The only figures that really grabbed me from the cancelled 5-pack were the long coat IGs. I think it's safe to say we'll see one or both, either in the box or an attendee set. I've got my fingers crossed for a Darklon.

I like it, I don't love it but I'm really looking forward to what they do with the long coat versions. If they're going with the cold weather theme maybe they should have tried to add some Snow Serpent fur, what do you think?

By the way I have a feeling that the rest of the figures are going to exactly come from that canceled 5-pack, so that Destro pictured in the post right above yours might be included.
I guess that's the way the cookie crumbles. I did like my "Red Skull" Destro idea better though.

Not bad at all for a bunch of part swaps!
Since it's arctic themed, what do we think the odds are of seeing Kwinn show up in one form or another?
Maybe with a kayak...

I gotta agree with Scoop. The box set may just double the troops from the cancelled IG pack: 4 IG Elites, 2 dark grey long skirt IGs, and 2 maroon long skirt IGs. Then, add 1 Destro and you've got 9 IGs + 6 OGs = 15.

I don't see how Kwinn would fit in this set. If it were ALL Oktober Guard, I could see Marvel issue #2 version being a mercenary who worked with the OG before - but that would be only to fill in the set. There are plenty of OG to fill in the various spots - and with the IG, they could easily fill the remaining parachute drop figure and exclusives.
The big mystery is who the General is that was kidnapped. I agree, General Mayhem makes the most sense as this was a Club created character, I believe.

You have the option to get a bagged set with the Homefront Hero package, yes.
Or at least they've had it in the past. I did it last year.

I've always wondered: Do you have to buy the bagged set at the same time, or can you order the boxed set, wait a few weeks then get the bagged one further down the line when there's more money about (presuming they still have any left, of course)?

You are not the only one. The set was probably going to be a sell out with just the Oktober Guard but, this pairing with the IG makes it a definite. The IG really make this an all around solid set!

I'm loving the set so far... Always wanted the OG and now we get a special mission "arctic" IG team as well.
The IG was always all over the place with colors...take a look at Voltar!
My bet is we get General Mayhem and Voltar along with the maroon or black "officer" from the 5-pk x2.
Exclusives? Would love Darklon and his Evader. That 5-pk Destro and a Despoiler would also be cool. Would really really love a DEMON tank with Ferret. A reprint of,one of the POC mechs would be cool as well. What about the OG? That Indiana Jones jungle cutter would be cool...don't know what else would work.
This set has that old German soldiers vs. Russsians feel to it...

-Big Bear is a Russian Paratrooper. He will most likely be the Parachute Drop Figure since Stormavik has already been made. I could also see an Iron Anvil being the Parachute Drop Figure if the rest of the Oktober Guard are not made as the convention exclusives.

-I think that the set will be the following:
This is exactly what I want to see and of what I think that we will get. Just because Destro was part of the 5-Pack, does'nt mean that we will get him here. The club picks and chooses their figures so I believe that the Boxset of 15 will be the following:
Voltar
Short Skirt I.G. x 4
Medium Coat I.G. x 2
Long Coat I.G. x 2
Stormavik
Diana
Col. Brekhov
Shrage
Dragonsky
Horrorshow
Also, I think that we are getting:
2-Pack with Ruslan & Wong
3-Pack with Lt. Gorky, Sgt. Misha & Red Star
Parachute figure will be Big Bear (that is his Russian military specialty)
-Also, I have thought that too when I had first seen the pics of the cancelled 5-packs. Here are the German SS Troopers (Schutzstaffel) that I own in 4-inch scale for comparison:

If there are bagged sets left over after the con, then yes, the Homefront Hero folks are eligible to buy those after the convention. At least that's my understanding.

Big Bear was a sergeant, not a General.
Also, the Club's mission story says the set focuses on a previously classified mission featuring members of the "original" Oktober Guard team, so we might not see any later members. I hope that's not the case because I'd love to see Big Bear and some other OG members. And we might still see some Joes too, maybe as add-ons. After all, the Joes somehow knew about this mission since it was previously classified. Or maybe not. Either way, I'm excited about this set.

My highest hopes right now are to have Voltar appear in this set, but I have a sick feeling in my stomach that we are getting the cancelled 5 pack Destro instead.
I was just so excited about this set, until the reveal of that weak-looking Iron Grenadier figure (which wasn't good enough to try to sell in a Walmart or Toys 'R Us, but somehow made it into this convention set, and constitutes one quarter of the figures in the box).

I remember last year all the complaining people did on the PP troopers but once in hand they were not to bad. This looks much better than the PP trooper in last years set, so I think these IG figures in hand will look even better than what we all see on our monitors or smart phones.

I would be really, REALLY surprised if they gave us Destro in the convention set. Generally speaking, the Club is pretty good about not putting "core"/often-rehashed characters into their Convention sets. They may offer them as one-offs ("Mickey Mouse" Cobra Commander, for example) but rarely in the main set itself.
We'll likely get at least one if not both of the other IGs from that canceled set, but the "named character"/commander figure for the IGs will either be Voltar or General Mayhem, mark my words.

Now that we know we're getting Iron Grenadiers, can we finally get some Modern Era version of some other types of troopers or vehice drivers? I would so love an ME Ferret, Annihilator, Nullifier, or TARGAT. I'd love a modern Undertow in the same colors as the club figure from a while back, but I don't see how that one would fit into this year's cold weather theme.

Does anyone have a good summary on the lore behind the IG? I know it's Destro's army, but what is the lore behind the other IG figs (etc. Voltar)? I was out of Joes at this time, but I liked the 25th IG figs enough to get at least 10 of them. Someone put a link on this thread about the lore of the OG. Just wondering if there was a similar one for the IG.

I'd love to get darklon or voltar or metal head, but I do not want to pay con price for some already existing figure with a darklon or voltar etc head. That's the sad thing. Been wanting figures of the Oktober Guard probably from back when I was a kid and read issue 6 and 7. We got those excellent o-ring figures in the comic packs (too bad I wasn't collecting then and could get them for retail price). But as for modern style versions, it's a shame to see characters I really like only done halfway right. Brekhov in particular was bad. Darklon has a number of body details that are unique to his character, just can't do that any justice with a new head only.

Can't speak for the rest, but Voltar's backstory was pretty cool:
He was a mercenary commander that was so good at his job that the people he'd normally work for (Third-world dicators, despots, etc...) started to see him as a threat instead of an asset. Destro basically sprang him from prison and hired him to lead the IGs, not only because he was a skilled commander, but because he was lucky, too.
Darklon was Destro's cousin, and pretty much the "black sheep" of the family. He generally spent more time working against Destro (to seize power for himself) than working for him. Also, he looked very silly.
