The images confirm Roadblock has hands...... that you can put things in! Sorry for the low quality of the images but you can make out most of the accessories included.

Does Roadblock have an Arashikage tatoo?
Odinsdad
04-18-2012, 07:03 PM
This line is winning me over little bit by little bit.
I'm not crazy about rb having the tat, but not a deal breaker. Sets look awesome, ans I wish they'd all use the zartan hood (or even the darth sidious hood) over the resolute storm shadow one.
***taking a second look, I don't think its the arashikage tat, its his normal tribal tat, at least its not the clan symbol in the pic.

Anybody know MSRP? Just curious.
Hasbro's posted an MSRP of $19.99, but Target is pushing 24.99 (incidentally, Deltas were MSRP of 24.99 with the Ninja Battles at 19.99, so I wonder if Target accidentally swapped the prices, it HAS happened before)
I want these 2 sets more than the single-card figures. I would love to see sharper photos of them though. Curious as to how SE and Roadblock look. I really like the Beachhead, as there were some nice pics of him from Toy Fair.
Justin "General Hawk" Bell has had "advance samples" of the sets for several weeks now, and posted fairly comprehensive image galleries of both sets
G.I. Joe: Retaliation Review Page | Generals Joes - A blog about the importance (or unimportance) of little plastic men (http://generalsjoes.com/g-i-joe-retaliation-review-page/)
While his sample does have double key hands on RB, Toy Fair and product images all show him with regular wrist swivels.
Even at $25, I think they are pretty nice value, especially considering the Ninja Showdown set uses the EXACT same molds as the wave 1 ninjas, but with more/better accessories and I feel more interesting deco.

Hey Steevy, thanks for posting that link to the early sample reviews.
It'll be a real shame if Roadblock has the gun-kata hands. It doesn't look like the packaged sample has them. I don't mind the reduction to single-knees, if there's still such a great range of motion as RB seems to have.
While I understand wanting Beachhead to have a bit more diverse color scheme, I really like him. I think the harness breaks up his body's monotonous color scheme. And I like it when a character can get a different color scheme yet still be recognizable. I'll gladly use this figure as a desert Beachhead.
Kamakura's ok. Never really been a fan of the character (ninja overload), but I think the figure is pretty sharp.
I'm going to hold out on the single-card SE (hopefully I can resist) for this 3pack version. I really like the harness added to him. Makes him so much more in-line with being a commando.
SS and red Ninja are pretty cool too. I like to see SS in something other than just his classic look. Modernizing him isn't a horrible thing. I like the grey accents as they break up the white just enough.

No. It looks like they're trying to:
1.) Get kids to buy the line (NINJAS SELL.)
2.) Do right by the fans by making some killer figs at the same time.
You do know that you're not bound by any international or cosmic laws to adhere to the fantasty spelled out on the packgaining, right? Espcially since you're a grown ass man? You can make these guys Star Wars characters or Dragon Riders of the Styx, for all anyone cares.

The theme coming from the movie is that all the Joes (at least the surviving ones) have been trained by ninja masters and that Roadblock is the best of the bunch. (see my sig)
The training isn't all that big of a deal as I'm sure it will make sense in the continuity of the film, and they did pretty much the same thing in Renegades.
While our past concept of Roadblock did not include Ninja Commando badassness, that changed when the Rock took the part. You couldn't very well expect the Rock to be in an action movie dressed in a chef's hat and apron and rhyming everything could you? From what I've seen, this new characterization will work very nicely.

I dont remember that, if it really happened, I blocked it out and ignored it...
Training is one thing, being called the "Ultimate Ninja Commando" is another. I would suspect all military peeps get hand to hand combat training in one form or another. You don't just go to a dojo for a day and come out an "Ultimate Ninja Commando", THATS what I am complaining about. Just the notation or the concept of having to endure such a concept in this movie now is really annoying me. I was really pumped about a lot of what they showed, I just hope this is a marketing gimic so I can open the figures and toss the packaging and remove any Arshikage tatoos from Joes/vehicles that do not deserve to bear them. In my verse only the Hard and Softmaster along with Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow adorn the red symbol on them. Arishikage is earned, not given, its not some tatoo you get from your cracker jack box. If they try to make them all out to be as good as Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow, whats the point of Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow? This whole concept started with the RIA Duke at they end of ROC where they gave hime ninja swords and tried to mak ehim a ninja too....kids DONT have to have EVERY figure being a ninja..I blame Ninjagao Legos for this mess..
RolandofGilead
04-19-2012, 02:14 PM
This is just marketing and background info for the movie. What we do with our figures in the privacy of our own homes is nobody's business. :D
I don't mind Roadblock's new position, but I don't plan to apply any Arashikage symbols to any of my new vehicles. Or if they come pre-applied, I'll try to scratch them off.
Ash Talon
04-19-2012, 02:38 PM
I will be stripping off the ninja symbols on the vehicles as well. Provided they aren't just labels. Same with the figures.
Who cares if the packaging labels the Joes as ninja-certified? As long as it's not Roadblock's head on a ninja body does it really matter? Use them as you see fit.

I agree that Roadblock shouldnt be an ultimate ninja commando, but if it helps to sell the toys to the younger kids so us collectors can get more figures down the road, then by all means do it. Yes not every figure should have the arashikage symbol on them or deserve to have them.

And this whole the kids gotta buy it so we can get other stuff extortion needs to come to an end. If that was the case...Sideshow wouldnt be making GI JOE figures and statues...kids need to buy it so retail will stock, no big loss if retail wont carry it, none of this gimick stuff worked for ROC... that dosent mean BBTS wont stock stuff for collectors, who comprise the majority of thier customers. Hopefully I'm lucky enough to be there when they put this stuff out.
With the Avengers movie toys, I had asked a TRU manager who told me they had them, but would not put them out before the street date the following week under any circumstances. Then I went back just a day later for something else to find they'd put everything out already and someone had cleared the pegs.
