I'm not sure about Mac. The OpenBOR engine can run on other systems, but you'd have to do some research at the Lavalit website.

If you want to run the game on other platforms besides PC, you can read up about OpenBOR here:
http://lavalit.com:8080/index.php

PSP, Dreamcast, Wii, and Mac all seem to be doable.

I haven't played video games in years. And definitely not on my computer. Is there a simple joystick I can buy instead of using the keyboard?

Fantastic job with this game! I am very grateful.

Would LOVE ot have this, but can't for the life of me get this SendSpace CRAP to work. Ugh.

Glad I only installed it in a virtual mahcine.

Hi poddie, yes originally the game was on Mediafire but Hasbro took it down. Someone else uploaded it to Sendspace. The link works, but Sendspace has 3 links which say Download, 1 is the correct link and the others are spam ads. If you go back to my first post you'll see I attached a photo showing which link to click to download the game.

Will this play on an arcade emulator such as MAME?

I see that on the LavaLit website it mentions that some games can be played on the following platforms...

Dreamcast
Dingoo
Gp2x
Linux (32 Bit)
Linux (64 Bit)
PSP
Wii
Windows
Wiz

I have a GP2X Wiz so I would like to see if I can get this G.I. Joe game to run on one of the emulators for it.

Range Viper

I also have a Wiz, but I don't think the latest version of OpenBOR has been ported to Wiz. You can get the older OpenBOR games to run on Wiz but when I tried loading GI JOE it freezes on the loading screen.

SmokedPorter, yes you can use joysticks or gamepads with OpenBOR. Under Options there's a way to configure them (and be sure to enable Gamepad).

MeLikeJinx, just keep at it, you'll get the hang of it. If you're playing as Snake Eyes, don't forget you can summon Timber to help you out.

Maybe I am doing something wrong but I downloaded it and when I run the EXE file I get a small window that pops up showing various game consoles and when you put the cursor over top of the window it disappears and I can't click anything except the X to close the window. I have never used an emulator or anything before. I have Windows XP how can I actually play this game? I appreciate the help and very excited to play it!

It took me awhile to get it going to...

After downloading...

This is from Range Viper:

"....You should see the folder. Open the folder and you'll see a yellow icon that says GI JOE - PLAY. Just double click that to launch the game. The game auto-saves. Every time you reach a new level it saves, so you can quit and Load Saved Game anytime to continue where you left off."

Make sure you're unzipping the game with Winzip (or 7-zip works well too). You should have a folder with the "GI Joe - Play" exe in it, as well as sub folders such as 'data', 'paks' etc. If anything is missing it won't run.

The other option is go to lavalit.com and download OpenBOR from there. On their site if you go to the downloads section you'll see the PAK for GI JOE. Download it too and put it in the pak's folder in OpenBOR and you're good to go.

I actually preferred playing with General Hawk since he has the super fast short punch just like Guile. Fun game... just like Final Fight. The best part though was just seeing all the Joe cameos in the background like Falcon and Mutt and the rest... so cool.

I found a little glitch I think. I got killed in the forest by the cargo truck and I regenerated covered up by the truck. The game is DOPE, though!

Someone posted videos of themselves playing through the whole game on YouTube. They unlocked the secret bonus mission in one of them. Funny enough, they didn't complete the game (there's a fail ending if you don't stop the missile launch in time).

Range Viper
06-11-2012, 09:44 PM
NSP, here's a 'cheat' so you don't run out of lives. When you die (or fail a mission) pause the game and quit out before it goes to the next screen. Then start the game again, and pick load saved game instead of new game (the game auto-saves to whatever the last stage you were on). It will also add lives this way.

ive been stuck on the skystriker stage for some time now

Range Viper
06-12-2012, 12:23 AM
Here's a tip for the skystriker stage:

again, if the Flagg is about to sink, pause and quit and load saved him before you get the fail screen.

The key to the later levels is bomb management. When you have 10 left, go rearm and refuel on the Flagg. The best time to rearm is just after you kill a Night Raven or Torpedo (if you're on the final stage).
