I saw this on amazon.com.
Amazon.com: G.I. JOE: The Complete Collection Volume 1 (9781613773963): Larry Hama, Herb Trimpe, Mike Vosberg, Ron Wagner: Books (http://www.amazon.com/G-I-JOE-Complete-Collection-Volume/dp/161377396X/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1334493039&sr=1-1)
Looks like they are doing the same thing what they were doing with Transformers, regarding the HC releases.

I've often wondered why this hadn't been done before now. It says 300 pages. I wonder how many issues that's gonna cover. I was buying the TPB up until about #10 but it was getting a little too expensive for me.

How is that the Complete Collection if it is only 300 pages and only 1 volumes? This is stupid, hardcovers should be released first. Well, I'm not rebuying the graphic novels just to have hardcovers, especially at that price.

It hasn't been done before now in order to ensure collectors have purchased the TPBs first.
Now, they'll re-release them, better, in hardcovers to ensure a second round of purchasing.
It's not stupid, it's good business sense.
Personally, I own all the TPBs. I'll be rebuying everything in hardcover and selling off the TPBs.
Dr.Kain, that is just Volume 1 of the complete collection, not the complete collection in one book. That's why it has Volume 1 on the name.

I'll probably be picking this up considering I've been putting off the trades for so long. The hardbacks will look awesome between my Snake Eyes & Storm Shadow book ends. :)

That figures. I just bought TPB 14 on Saturday.

So, I guess the hardback volumes will have more issues in them than the TPB - 240 pages vs 300. At least that might mean less than 15 hardback volumes - maybe they will get it down to 10?

So ten volumes at $33 a pop? Still I kinda want them.

Cool, now I can go back and start buying the TPB's again. I stopped after the third one but have seen some great prices on them on Amazon and ebay lately.

Does this mean the TPBs will go out of print?

It says at amazon that the Special Missions and Yearbooks are inserted in 'proper reading order'. Not a fan of that - will stick with the TPBs.

I was just thinking about how exciting it was that the last volume of G.I. Joe Classic is coming out in July so I can finally read the new RAH series. And now there's a whole new way to collect them. Ah well, I've been buying the classic volumes for several years now, so I would imagine it will take a few years for the hardcovers to come out.

I'm pleased that they are keeping the original comics in circulation by releasing hardcovers, but I'm not sure I will be getting these. I own all the softcover trades, and I love reading them. I don't generally like the large hardcover "omnibus" versions because they are so big and heavy, and the binding often doesn't hold up well. It's my personal preference, I will generally choose a softcover version over a hardcover version.
Regardless, these comics are awesome, and I'm glad they are getting the collector treatment.

I will only get them if they include the postbox page which I doubt.

I'm quite fine with the TPB's, I can't afford the re-buy them again besides it's hard to put them away in longboxes.

Yearbook 3 concluded the Snake Eyes story from GIJoe #54-56. Special Missions #6 continued from Joe 61 and then continued into 62. But what's worse is that events in SM 26 lead directly into Joe 92.
Hopefully, this won't mean that the SM's won't be placed in the order they would have been read when published. During the Cobra Civil War, SM had a side story (starring Snake Eyes, Scarlett, and Chuckles) over several issues -- a 2 part story in 14-15 plus 2 more issues (18-19) on their extraction -- which should really be placed all together, or at least the two issues of each should be together. As it stands with the current Special Missions TPBs, the first 2-parter is split over two trades, which is annoying.
Not having the letters pages doesn't bother me too much -- I have all the issues -- however it would be nice if the Cobra Island map that appeared on the letters page during the Civil War would be included.

In general hardcovers always come out after trades because they collect multiple volumes of trades. In this case IDW just wants that sweet gravy. Milk us baby!
I'll be picking this up. I always buy the hardcovers.

I have all the TPBs (14 Classic, 4 Special Missions and the big Yearbook), I need only Classic vol. 15. I'll do not buy the hardcovers volumes obviusly.

I agree.
AND I'm in the same boat, I own all the TPBs but will probably end up re-buying all of these as well. I just wonder if it will take as long for these to come along as it has the with the TPBs?
Might have to cancel my Special Missions Boxed Set & Classic GI JOE Vol.15 pre-orders now...

If Postbox: The Pit is included, I would buy the hardcovers (even though I've already bought all the TPBs). Hama explained all sorts of stuff in the letters section and made it required reading.
Unfortunately, way too many of the letters were looking for No Prizes, but other than that they were good.

Another thing that would be awesome would be to have all the ads printed from the original comics. That's one of the things that also made rereading all the comics worthwhile. So many great memories.

That makes sense. If this is only 60 additional pages, that's probably the first Yearbook throw in? With 4 Yearbooks and 17 Special Missions, having 30-60 additional pages per would allow them to sprinkle them in.
$33 x 15 = $495. Yeah, I shouldn't have done that. :D

Does he have any sense on timing of releases? The TPBs have been painfully slow for a first time reader! Hoping these come out a little closer together...

Yeah - I didn't know at the time I wrote that that they would be inserting those stories in the volumes.
