Were do others get their toys? I have noticed people finding stuff at goodwill, garage sales, etc. If you find stuff at garage sales, etc whats the trick to this? Just see a sign for one and go and hope they have stuff. I want some vehicle shells to restore but cant find anything good for a reasonable price.

If you happen to drive by a garage sale and spot a few toys chances are they'll have some good stuff. Around here though 98% of garage sales dont have any toys.

I learned a trick, go to neighborhoods that were developed in the 60s so that the people who bought them had kids in the 80s. Your millage might very and also GI JOEs are now 30 years old so if they were thrown out the basement it probably happened in the 90s.
Anyways Craigslist is a good medium and KOKOMO TOYS is in your state man go to them with that problem. I think they had or have 500 pounds worth of shells.

It usually is just something I find.....whenever I plan to go out looking I rarely find anythingand yhat is usually when I have extra cash too!!!
but I have been VERY fortunate recently at Salvation Army today I got a R.O.C.C. for $1.25 its missing a few pieces but its custom fodder anyways......a month ago I got a ARC_170,vaders tie fighter and that GIANT 6 legged walker tank/troop carrier from clone wars for $2.50 I love my local salvation army

Ebay...
Being an international collector sucks big time. That and I'm not into o-ring, so yeah...
And before anybody suggest BBTS - add an extra 25% to the cost of the figure AND transport in VAT/taxes for me. Ebay people at least mark my stuff as a gift or write down the value on the items so I don't have to pay extra.

Yeah craigslist is good. If you want to find a collection to pick up you have to be vigilant and check it almost daily for a collection to pop up.

I have only found G.I.Joes at 1 garage sale and that was last Summer. I almost bought the lot from the old guy but he wanted whore house prices for them, and they weren't even complete figures! He wanted $20 for Wild Weasel and $35 for Keel Haul, those were the only 2 that were complete since WW didn't have an gear & KH only had a gun. He had a BAT with no attatchments, backpack or chest plate hologram thing and he wanted $15 for it, Footloose with no gear and broken crotch he wanted $15 for also and then he had a couple straight armers all with broken crotches and thumbs that he wanted $50 for the baggie of them (Breaker, Scarlett, Grunt & Rock 'N Roll) but no gear either. I asked him about a deal on the whole lot but he said no! So, he might still have them all for sale again this Summer but he can keep them.
I did buy 10 practically brand new BluRays from someone at a yard sale last Summer and only paid $22 for them all and got a king size sleigh bed real wood frame for $30 so last year wasn't all bad for sales I guess :)

I buy Joe's on Ebay, flea markets (when I find them), and Jay's CD & Hobby here in DSM, IA. In fact I'll be stopping at Jay's this afternoon in search of vintage goodness.
I'll also buy or trade with Tankers.

1 search your local newspapers online for garage sales,
be willing to travel , but search surrounding areas and states
search for various comic shops , try to hit all if possible , also do the same if you are traveling out of town
search in citys and states that relatives live in.
I have often though of putting up garage sale (LIKE ) signs up around various neighborhoods that say (i will buy yous 80,s toys)
i have scored 4 collections alone by friends and such just by showing them my toy room. so i would say posting pictures on your facebook could generate good hauls aswell

One day I will have to go to that Jay's place. I live in Council Bluffs so it is a 2 hour drive plus my wife will make me see my sister-in-law who lives in Des Moines.

I've found Joes at Goodwill. It was only one time but I look when I'm there with my girlfriend, she also looks for vintage toys. Its hit or miss but you never know what you might find. As for other places, Craigslist has been a valuable tool to me. I've found several local people who sell vintage Joes through Craigslist and even a few brick & mortar stores. Some of the brick & mortar stores I've gone to used to operate at Flea Markets so that's a good place to try too. I also try going to some local meets and conventions, like Joelanta here in Atlanta and get some contacts that way. Anyways, that's what I've found that works best for me.
