I think there should be some sort of "award" or distinction certain members of the tank should receive for selflessly helping out fellow tankers, coming up with an awesome idea, or just going above and beyond.

I am a relative newbie, having only been a member since early December 2011, but I have saw some pretty great stuff in my short time here.

The "award" need not be monetary, perhaps just a small tag to be placed on a member's account, (similar to the HISStank supporter/Crimson Horseman logo). The idea follows the military medal/distinction theme.

This idea is not just fielded to the moderators, but every member. What do you guys think? I know nobody should NEED an award to do something nice, but a bit of recognition is always cool.

I would nominate the following two tankers for distinction:
->DaveViper, for his Pay It Forward idea/thread. This is the kind of selfless notion that builds community and comraderie.

->SteveT, for figuring out the HTS tornado kick SS glitch, and helping score a bunch of tankers a hard to find figure, thereby making many members days.

Just a thought,

SW

Well, we already have a Tanker of the Month (and Year) program, it is a way to recognize those outstanding individuals...

LOL Starbuck, I came across your Tanker of the Month thread literally 2 minutes after posting mine. I'm not trying to step on any toes here, I just thought it would be a cool concept. It's nice to see something like that in place.

Snow Wolf I didn't know about the voting thread starbuck had going on so your thread wasn't a lost. Starbuck I might have to vote for the Transexual wedding guests that was a pretty funny thread.

When you go out of your way to help someone out, you aren't looking for recognition. I like helping out fellow Tankers and being a good trading partner. The reward is friendship and a good rep.

I know a tanker like that and that is why he got my vote.

Exactly! The whole fact that a member would do something nice to help another guy/girl out without wanting or expecting recognition IS the very reason I think they should get some.

The world could use more of this selfless, forward thinking, IMO. Look at the response on this site. This kind of action creates a chain of good karma.

My Tanker of the Month/Year stuff is just a way to have fun. It pokes fun at some of the odd stuff people do around here, yet still mentions the good stuff people have done...

And if y'all aren't aware, i am the last person that will complain about a thread getting buried or hijacked... :D

Gonna take a stab in the dark here, Black Llama, were you the 2011 Tanker of the Year? I didn't join until early December 2011, so I am not really "in the know".

I love you guys, but with all due respect... you guys cant even vote for good figures in march madness. What makes you think you can vote for tankers to get the rewards they deserve?

Nope :D I'm sure someone will weave the tale of our Tanker of the year.

The tank works a lot like the real world where giving people free shit buys a lot of friends. Not knocking it being done, as I'm all for altruism and have given my fair amount of stuff away. I was joking as I was the one that ran the site's secret Santa over Christmas.

The award should be called the Golden Tread.

I had no idea....the secret santa idea is sweet. Hopefully, it happens again this Christmas, b/c I would love to get in on that action.
