UPDATE: Revised images on page 2.
After being totally disgusted by the official Retaliation packaging for multiple reasons, I decided to have some fun and make my own. Touchups and some fixes are still needed before I remotely call them done, but any input is welcome!

That's way better then what Hasbro designed !
I'm just not sure about the shape of the card, and the cobra logo should only be on cards that hold Cobra operatives ;-)

i debated having the cobra logo on all cards, but since i went with hasbro's style of taking out the red/white/blue stripes i felt the joe logo needed something with it. i figure a faction logo could go next to the character's name.
i also wasn't immediately sold on the asymmetric card shape, but it grew on me with the bevelling/brushed metal.

Much better then what we're getting but some more color could help jazz it up. Too basic and the metal is overwhelming.

i agree, troynos. i want to find a happy medium between the sheet metal and the too colorful official version. i might add some paint scrapes or something, but i don't want it to be too busy for the actor portraits.

Maybe just make the G.I. Joe a brighter color. It tends to get lost in the sheet metal right now.

Dial back the photoshop filters (beveled edges... pet peeve of mine) and add a bit more (vibrant) color and your spec art is WAY better than the official garbage that's coming out.

better but too grey
retaliation is dark metal with a fiery glow so if there was more of that it would be nailed

That is friggin sweet man. Is that Lady Jaye a custom figure or is that an actual Retaliation figure that I haven't seen yet?

If only they were being released with these cardbacks! One bazillion times better than the "official" ones we have seen.

i think they're finally getting there... i took out the bevelled edges and decided to go with some black to break up the metal a bit.
i also added a bit of a gradient overlay to the metal so it's not just stark gray anymore... i want to do something to sort of emulate the old explosion effect around the character, but nothing has been jiving as of yet.
i also gave the retaliation logo a bit more of a gold-ish twinge to make it pop out more.
let me know what you think, and thanks for all of the input thus far guys!

oh, and to the poster who was asking about that lady jaye... it's just some custom i found on google. the vintage/25th jaye wouldn't match the photo at all. :D

Great job. I'd much rather buy these than the ones Hasbro is giving us. Yours and sharp, professional and pleasing to the eye. The Hasbro cards give me a headache.

it just irritates me how much dead space is in the official ones. it makes it look like you're getting NOTHING for 10+ dollars... and i hate the generic 'roadblock and his ninja boyfriend snake-eyes' image on EVERY card. no more individual character/actor image.
i just find it amusing that a recent graduate monkey amateur like me can churn something out in a few hours for fun, and have it look even the slightest bit better. *sigh*

question: do you guys think it would be super cheesy if instead of a 'file card'... i used a PDA or a tablet with the image of the character and text?
i'm working on the backs of the card now, and i'm playing with a 'clip n save' tablet since a file card is a bit outdated. however, it's not really jiving with the rest of the card; it sticks out like a sore thumb.

I think an update would be appropriate, and "file card" is just shorthand for "tell us who this character I may or may not buy is!" It amazes me they'd do away with that, but I guess the movie is supposed to tell us all we'd ever want to know.
Great cards, I like them a lot.

WOW! These are awesome! 1000% better than the Hasbro junk. Yours are beautiful and appealing and really jump out! Once suggestion, I like the new yellow logo but I think the black background behind the figures is a bit too stark a contrast. What about the way you had it or maybe white or yellow. I also personally liked the way the area behind the figures and the text box to the left were not attached in the original. Well, these are just some suggestions. Either way, it is still VERY cool!!! Keep up the awesome work! Can't wait to see the backs!
