What is best GI Joe and Transformers DVD set to purchase?

Knowing there are several companies who made/reproduced the GI Joe and Transformers Cartoons in the past few years, I wanted other collectors opinions as to which ones were the best to purchase regarding video/audio quality in addition to extra scenes like commercials and interviews and stuff like that. I have some DVD sets now but noticed that more sets are coming out. Just trying to find the best one without having to spend alot of money and time viewing them to be disappointed and not be able to return the videos.

Great question. I have the rhino box set that had the two mini series in it and I have the footlocker from shout. The rhino box set has way better audio. I was wondering if the other rhino sets have the same great audio, if so, I might want to pick them up (even though they never produced the 4th box set). Anybody know?

Rhino- better overall quality (sound and image). Incomplete series

Shout- regular quality. Complete series has been released..

I have both Rhino and Shout sets I suppose as backup of either if either discs start conking out on me but the Shout Factory set is the most complete with all 95 Sunbow episodes released.

Another reaseon for having both is that they have special features that the other set might not have.

And Rhino has all their sets with 5.1 audio except for the first 2 miniseries but you also get original broadcast option too.

Are you saying the rhino sets are better quality than the rhino box set that came with the snake eyes figure? That would mean those sets have some great sound then.

I have both sets and I think the sound effects are louder on the Rhino set. The main difference is on the commercial breaks of season 2, A REAL AMERICAN HERO has lazer effects that spell out each word. The Shout set dosen't have that.

I know Rhino used prebroadcast tapes for their transformers set.They were different then the actual episodes shown on tvand the Rhino sets had animation errors not seen in the broadcast episodes.They also changed the sound effects in the episodes.I'm not sure if they did this with the G.I. Joe dvd sets or not.

Go with Shout factory. They are easily the best in both GI Joe and Transformers.

Rhino's first released The MASS Device and Revenge Of Cobra as a 2-disc barebones set followed months later by a re-release of the same 2-discs only this time with an interview with Ron Friedman and a reissue of 1982 Snake-Eyes, both have same video and audio 5.1.

Gotcha, I got the snake eyes version and the sound on it is way better than the shout version. I was wondering if the other rhino season sets (season 1, vol 1 and 2; and season 2 vol 1) have the same great sound or not.

I have the one that came in a green box with 2 sets of DVDs. I think my disks may have been scratched. I've been trying to use a disk cleaner program to fix them. I believe it was only damaged because it went through military mail. Had I had it delivered to my house it may be a different story. Either way I recommend that one.

Still wondering about this, I have surround speakers and I can really tell the difference between my rhino mini series and the shout mini series. The Rhino has great stereo and surround, it sounds like the skystriker goes right over the top of you. The Shout set sounds flat and 2 dminensional, not surround. I was wondering if the rhino season sets had the same great sound. If so, I want them.

I have both the rhino and shout sets of GI Joe and Transformers. Just because the Rhino sound effects are louder doesn't make the sound quality better, just not equalized correctly.

So with full confidence in some one who has watched both, the Shout sets are better for both in Sound, and Picture quality and in bonus material. Also the Rhino set does not include the second half of Joe season Two.

Sorry for the stupid question guys but I was just checking out the Shout website and saw another complete first series Joe set and was just curious. Is this the exact same as the locker box set?

No, the complete first series is the 4 seasons sets put into a thin box.
