The Vacation in the Shadows was the last "O" ring set. Hasbro has gotten rid off all the molds, so the club can't even use them now. Here on out, everything will me ME figures.

I hope they use the 5 pack lady jay body instead.. the DVD pack has her jump suit fully buttoned up.. the 5 pack doesn't. Makes for a much better look for Daina. Only cause that is the figure I have been working on for awhile now.. and guess I can stop. LOL

You should be able to get the convention set via pre-order. It is just as expensive as paying for a ticket and attending, but it gets you the set of figures.
What you might need help buying are the vehicles and exclusive 3 figure sets. Traditionally, the vehicles are nothing "new" - just repainted vehicles that are usually pretty easy to find but you never know what Hasbro might let them make. For the OG, the vehicles one would want just don't exist in the Hasbro toy chest - their balloon tired jeep or a Hind. The closest are the APC, which sort of resembles their armored transport (I think it was a BTR) and the NAC, which sort of lends itself to a Mi-24 but that is a pretty big vehicle for the Club to sell.

the same.
if youre a club member they are usually between 280-320
non club members fork over 360 or more (membership price added to the set)
the difference is, joecon attendees, the Con admission is included in the set price for all 4 days. and it included a free vehicle, and a chance to get the other exclusives. you also get the oppurtunetly to buy a Bagged set for roughly half the boxed set price.
non attendees get the set and thats it

Horror Show should not be that hard. Use one of the big bodies like ME Bazooka or ROC Heavy Duty, new coat/web gear, and either a new head or ME Bazooka's head.
Since there doesn't appear to be a Baroness coming from Hasbro any time soon this would be a perfect time for an IG Baroness. Helix and 2nd 5 pack Baroness parts with a new head or 2nd 5 pack head in IG Gold, Black, and Red.
Wonder if we will get the POC "Heavy" IG's in IG colors?
kingofpain26
04-05-2012, 08:46 PM
I'm thinking it may be the entire Group. remember they did the entire team in new sculpt, so it wouldn't be that much of a stretch to retool the new sculpt heads to neckballs.
plus the club often makes the entire sent one theme (headhunters, Dreadnoks, hunt for slaughter, the o-ring IG set) and the opposition could be the 2 and 3 figure exclusives.
it would be an ultimate burn for the exclusives to be an Arctic snake eyes, Stalker and Kwinn set with the Arctic baroness and Cobra commander..

You have to be a member of the club to order from the club, right? Because I was a member last year, and was totally disappointed in their WEAK mag and website. Now, with all the security issues, I'll gladly pass.

I guess I'm in the minority here....I really don't care much for the Oktober Gaurd. I really hope the IG are not in the set along with them. I wanna see what they look like before I make a snap judgement though. I really would have preferred something like a European tiger force set. With my luck, they will make the European figures the extras, which I likely won't be able to acquire without forking over a truck load on eBay. Anyone else not too excited by this news?
you aren't a minority. most people who hate oktober guard just arent posting in here cause they really dont care. i myself am really disappointed. i HATE oktober guard

I am more interested to see the parts combinations they will be using to make this set. I figure I stand a better chance to make my own as a custom using the same parts recipe than aquiring the set as I am not a member nor am I not able to attend this year. Besides, if unique head sculpts are used for this set, most likely they will show up on repo cast stores later on. If they were smart, they would somehow use the existing tooling from the O-ring version heads to work on ME donor bodies. All would work except for the Diana, the head used in the drawing would be a new sculpt, simular to the one I made for SDS several years back. I too am especially interested to see how they will make Horrorshow and Dragonsky.

Every con set has had an army builder, and there isn't any OG army builder, unless they make one up. Which would actually be really cool, but I doubt they would make just random Russian soldiers. At any rate, I'm sure that it will be the October Guard versus something.

If they follow last year's model it could be:
Col. Brekhov, Daina, Horrorshow, Dragonsky, Schrage, Stormavik
Voltar, Annihilator (2) using Matt Trakker, Iron Grenadier (6) cancelled set
2-pack exclusive: Darklon, Metal-Head (though Trigger and Lightning were complete repaints, not possible with these).
Last year they did a Python Patrol Stinger with driver. Is there an IG vehicle they could do on the cheap and get a Ferret or Wild Boar figure out?
I'd love an Undertow, but probably won't get it here.

Well this is one of the few themes that would make me risk giving card information to the Club after the debacle earlier this year, well played GIJCC.
But how to pay for it! Going on vacation to Europe this summer and that's tied up a fair bit of my disposable income for the first half of the year. Good thing I ordered a bagged set of last year's set to go with my box set, might ebay those. Still have all but the Cover Girl bagged.

I am curious too as to what characters will be included in the set. Iron Grenadiers would be awesome but, it doesn't seem likely only because they are popular enough to be made in a set of their own. Putting the Oktober Guard and Iron Grenadiers into one set would be like selling two sets in one and I can't see the Club doing that as they could make more money selling them separately.
My guess is that the remaining figures will be troop builders- maybe Joe troopers in winter mission gear?

The two factions had a beef in the comics. They could do something similar to Tanks for the Memories set and go OG/ 1 IG character and troop builders.

They might easily throw in repaints of Stalker, Scarlett, Breaker, Clutch, Flash, and Steeler with Col. Brekhov, Daina, Horror Show, Stormavik and Schrage to cover Marvel issue #6 (one of my all-time favs). That makes eleven figures leaving room for one to four more.
Dragonsky could round out a 12 figure set. and a fifteen figure set could include any 3 of OG members Lt. Gorky, Big Bear, Wong, and Sgt. Misha.

If you are a GI Joe Club Member the cost is $305 or it was last year and if you are not in the Club the total is $355. Here is a link to last years brochure so you can look at the different price break downs. The prices may be the same as last year or may go up for the 2012 Con but this will at least give people an idea. Also if you plan to do the Home Front Hero Pack it is free shipping in the US.

That'd be cool. The only problem I see is that there is no army builder there to help defray the cost to the club. Unless maybe if all the Joes had the exact same body, just with different heads.

I hope at least if it's an Oktober Guard set, it's a complete set, and not a mix of OG and Iron Grenadiers. I like the IG alright, but I feel like we've already got plenty of IG figures. If they do mix the set with the IG faction, I hope it's just to include Metal head, Voltar, targat, etc, and leave out the IG troopers and destro- we have enough as it is.

There will probably be another faction with October guard with some kind of troop builder to go up against the Oktober Guard. Original 6 OG vs maybe IG, SG, or NW. Or maybe something completely diffrent that no one will see coming.

Just got the Rising Sun fan comic of the Oktober Guard. The writer there viewed Diana, Daina, and Volga as three distinct characters. He also threw Zangief into the mix a little - you know, the character from Street Fighter. Wong was also part of the team. That is how you add a few Oktober Guard figures to the mix to make the pack without any army builders.

I'm now torn on whether to go for this set or the sub. No way can I afford both, so it's just a case of deciding which characters are the most "important" to me.
But for the dumb club rule that demands I buy a boxed set before I can buy a bagged one, the chance to buy them 'loose only' might have allowed me to afford both sub & set.

I'm hoping to sell any 'skirt' Iron Grenadier figures along with Iron Klaw, Nano B.A.T., TNT from the subscription and black Zarana to afford both the sub and set.

You know I was watching a youtube from a fellow tanker about the guard and even I (a big guard fan) was surprised by the heavy presence of the oktober guard across the joe spectrum. They appeared in the original comics, the special missions, the ongoing hama continuation, ddp, a comic pack special, the sunbow cartoon, the dic cartoon, and even an episode of transformers (the original 80's one). They had figures produced during the 82-94 run, in the late 90's, in the comic 3 packs during valor vs venom, and a comic pack in the 25th line.

Im trying to remember, but usually officers pay 290-320 for the set. usually non members pay that price, plus the Membership fees, bringing the cost to 350-400.
if you can attend, the cost of the set included the admission to the con and all regular attendee events. (other events, like the customizing class with Hasbro, and New Orleans tours, cost extra)
also attendees get something non attendees DONT get, a free attendee vehicle.

Last year officer level for the boxed set was $305. The non officer set was $350 or $355. If you don't go to the con you can sign up for the home front hero set at the same prices. Last years home front hero sets shipped out free in the US. You don't get any exclusives or the free item, but you do get the boxed set, certificate, and the comic book. Plus if they offer the free shipping like last year that is a savings of at least $20 bucks or so.

It's because the Von items are produced by the club, not Hasbro and in far fewer numbers than the retail or etail releases. The club items have always been expensive. If you really want them , it's worth it. I for one like having hard to find items in my collection. Just makes the collection that little extra bit of special

Con sets have always been expensive, and the Dreadnok set was A) 7 figures, about $7.50 a piece - which is retail price B) Con sets are made in severely limited numbers by GIJCC, not Hasbro.
Club figures are roughly $25.00 a pop, which is the same price as their non-con exclusive figures. The Figure Sub will be around that price point too.
A boxed set of 15 figures, at $25.00 a figure works out to about $375 - last year's set was $305 for Officer Level Members, which works out to a little over $20 a figure. Yes, more expensive than retail, but still not a new development. The Con has been doing these boxed sets for 10 years now.

So how much would the OG vs IG set cost at the convention?
Is there a limit to the # of sets you can buy at the convention?
Also, how much were the stinger jeep and water mocasin at the convention? Those were for people atending only, correct?
Also, was the carded dialtone available at the con last year? If so, how much? Hopefully they would make a carded footloose available this year.
Thanks, any help would be much appreciated.

>>I'm very cofused + I'm not that smart to beging with.

If you are a paying Club Member (Officer level), the boxed set runs $305 (based on last year's box price). Once you've bought a boxed set, you have the option to purchase a second set, bagged not boxed, at a reduced price ($185 last year, if I remember correctly).
>>Is there a limit to the # of sets you can buy at the convention?>>
Just two, I believe. One boxed, one bagged. If you wanted additional sets, you would have to purchase them at registration, not at the Con (since quantities are severely limited. *IF* there are more sets available at the Con, they would be available for purchase, but there's no guarantee.
>>Also, how much were the stinger jeep and water mocasin at the convention? Those were for people atending only, correct?>>
Stinger was $65, Mocassin was $55, IIRC. Stinger may have been $65, but it came with a figure. EDIT Duffman corrected me: $65 and $35, apparently.
>>Also, was the carded dialtone available at the con last year? If so, how much? Hopefully they would make a carded footloose available this year.>>
$25 and Yes. Available only to Club Members at first, and he sold out before the public sales began on Friday.

correct, for example I know a few people who had some missing accessories and some figures that had hands fall off (Leatherneck for me) and you call and let them know and they send a replacment.

Not keen on having Soviet themed stuff leading the Joe convention, they were minor characters in the comic and created for a common threat enemy WWII inspired style effect of having US and Soviet forces battling Nazis/Neo-Nazis/Cobra.

Not minor - certainly no more than MANY central characters for Cobra in the comic books, and the fact that they carried over into the cartoons (plural) speaks quite a bit to their popularity and utility. Considering that in DiC, two of the OG were members of the Joe team, and later in DDP Daina became a Joe should relax your mind in terms of Soviets leading the Joe convention. The OG were the Soviet Joe team - their mirror image in a communist state. Yes, they were often the "common enemy" but more often they were in competition or even at odds with the Joes.
The OG were awesome because from a cold communist state, you have some of the full of character soldiers we ever see. Horror Show was awesome. Brekhov with his half smoked cigar/cigarette and ironic leadership style. Daina in her wanting to go to West in issue 7, yet being quite competent as a sniper and pilot. I could go on. I don't think you could say the same of Grunt or Short Fuze or Grand Slam - characters that received plenty of time in the comics and in the cartoons but never made an impact.
I guess I just wonder where the complaints were when they did a Crimson Cobra themed set, or the Dreadnoks set, the Red Shadows set, or the Headhunters? Do you notice a theme here - Joe Con often focuses on an enemy subteam that we aren't likely to get in figure form any time soon.

It just occurred to me that when this summer's convention happens, that the 1966 G.I. Joe Russian Infantryman action figure will still be 45 years old (and doesn't turn 46 until later this year).
So, to me anyways, because my collection always lacked the Russian Infantryman figure, this boxed set has even more significance than just the 30th Anniv. of ARAH... it's actually the 45th Anniv. of G.I. Joe Russian action figures.
That would be incredible, in my opinion, if the club worked a version of this figure into the modern era boxed set, but I highly doubt that's gonna happen. Oh well, still a neat trivia fact.
