Yay, It's officially Opening Day!! St. Louis vs Miami tonight and everyone else starting tomorrow! I'm really hoping Atlanta doesn't blow it in September again this year! I'm looking forward to seeing how our pitching will do if they stay healthy and I'm hoping for a bounce back season by Heyward! Hoping for a great sophomore season out of Freddie Freeman and looking forward to seeing if Uggla can continue his great batting through Spring Training throughout the season! Let's GO BRAVES!
And a quick rant: I was considering purchasing MLB.TV since they offer it on Xbox LIVE now and found out that all of the Braves' games will be blocked out because they are the "local" team(I live in SC). Why would anyone pay $125 a year to watch every team except the team they root for!? :End rant.

I love baseball, last year's end of the regular season and the Cardinals' World Series comeback were so much fun to watch. I don't really root for any team though... except maybe the Braves by default since I grew up rooting for them, but Chipper Jones is the only Brave left that I even recognize (if he's still there, lol).
Oh... and Miami's new stadium is kinda hideous IMO. LOL.

Very excited about the new season.
But the new wild card rules are ridiculous. Unless the Giants find themselves in that spot. For any other team: ridiculous.

LOL. Yah. It is weird for sure, but the only good thing is that before there was no difference from winning your division or winning the wild card, so a team could lose on purpose just to get a better match-up in the 1st round of the playoffs. At least now winning your division actually matters.

Winning your division always matters. I don't buy into the "losing to win" argument. There are no guarantees that you can beat any team on their best day, be they the Yankees or the Royals. If anything, there's less pressure to win the division now since a team of scrubs on a hot streak can now advance where in years past they'd be sitting at home in October.
What this new system does is destroy any chance of the last day of the season being anything as close to as epic as last year's was.

Oh! I also kinda like the Dodgers... but only because over here we catch FSW which airs the Dodgers and Angels home games, so I always have the ballgame on tv in the background. TBS used to air a bunch of Braves games, so that's why I rooted for them growing up, but TBS stopped a few years ago, so I kinda stopped following them.

Ho-boy. The Red Sox look like SHIT!
Two straight terrible outings by our starters, multiple blown leads and runs given up by the bullpen, and the offense was shut-out last night.
The result? Two walk-off losses and an 0-3 record!
I have faith that the starters will straighten out some, but I'm WORRIED about that bullpen.
EDIT: Vicente Padilla did look pretty darn good today though...

There have been a lot of players to hit 2 home runs in a game at such an early point in the season. Saturday had 5 different players to do it!
Saturday (4/7)
Lucas Duda - Mets - 2HR
Prince Fielder - Tigers - 2HR
Miguel Cabrera - Tigers - 2HR
Aaron Hill - Dbacks - 2HR
Cory Hart - Brewers - 2HR
Sunday (4/8)
Carlos Santana - Indians - 2HR
Jay Bruce - Reds - 2HR
Monday (4/9)
Omar Infante - Marlins - 2HR

Yah, I only looked at the bottomline at first, but then saw what happened when I watched the highlights on Sportscenter later.
He was probably super tight during the beginning with all the attention; especially from Japan where he is like currently the biggest sports star in the entire country I think, so he was probably overthrowing a bit during the first inning which is totally understandable.

You know... I've been playing Baseball videogames way back since Intellivision Baseball and Hardball III and 4 for the PC and I never hit 4 homeruns in one game before with the same player. Even on MLB The Show for the PS3 I hit 3 homeruns with the same guy in the same game many times, but never got that fourth one... that's how hard that feat is... even in videogames. LOL. Yeah, the Braves need to hurry up and come out of their funk. I think it has a lot to do with Chipper not in the lineup and the pitching. Minor and Delgado are consistently bad. Durbin has always been trash. Venters is giving up more runs than he ever has. They just aren't clicking right now. 8 straight losses and going from 1st to last. That's bad.

Johan Santana pitched a 134 pitch no-hitter for the Mets against a tough Cardinals lineup. I thought that was pretty cool since he used to be the best pitcher in The Show a while back before he started to get hurt a lot. Plus, you can tell he was getting tired and a lot of his pitches were getting hit well... it is just that the ball stayed up just long enough for a fielder to get it. He also got a gift call when the grounder hit the line and was called foul, but pretty much every no-hitter only happens because of a few lucky breaks.

Yeah, Jinx. You are spot-on. Most of us Red Sox fans were on-board with that trade. We had to do it. Like you said....Crawford was ALWAYS hurt and underachieving, Beckett was sucking ass and a bad clubhouse guy, and as it turns out - so was Gonzalez!
Seriously, though - it shows just how bad Gonzalez was to the team, that they let him go as one of the premier talents in the game....after signing a HUGE contract....with SIX years still left on it! My guess is that he was a serious primadonna and a real whiner in that clubhouse.

How can you call an infield fly rule when the ball is in the middle of the outfield? Would have been bases loaded one out for the Braves... man that call was a killer.

this is why a one game wild card playoff is a terrible thing. bud selig is doing everything in his power to ruin baseball during his tenure...

Saw the Yanks hit a homerun to tie it in the bottom of the ninth and another one for a walk-off win, both by the same player. Changed the channel after that to see the A's win it in the bottom of the ninth down 2 runs. It was a good day of baseball.

Can't be helped... Verlander = Destiny Killer. LOL.
So far every series went the full 5 games... and there have been a lot of tight games and walk-offs too! Great baseball.

Haha, yep. When I read Verlander was pitching that Game 5, I thought "Oh shit....", lol.
Arggggggh, Yanks are up 3-1! O's have the bases loaded though....let's see if they can do anything.
EDIT: Nope. This game's over.

Did I ever mention I hate the Yankees?
Man, I gotta stop rooting for teams - they're all losing!
First: Red Sox - toast
Second: A's - lost last night
Third: Orioles - just lost to the Yankees
I guess I should have rooted for the Yankees tonight!

Valverde is like the worst closer ever... all he does is pitch fastballs down the middle. Detroit seriously needs to release him immediately despite the millions they still owe him.

Man, that bottom of the 9th with Coke trying to close out the Yanks in game 3 was nerve wracking... and I don't even really care who wins the series. LOL. Must have been 10 times as worse for Tigers fans.

Congrats Tiger Fans!
LOL! @ The Yanks. So that's what a $200 million payroll gets you? I guess A-Rod is going to be taking his talents to South Beach if the rumors are true. I say he is on his way out of town. He basically was going to be held out of three games in the series, and he wasn't injured. If the manager really felt that he couldn't help the team in the situation that they were in. Then there really isn't a reason to keep him on the team.
