S.A.W. Viper vs. Cross Country GIJOE March Madness 2012

S.A.W. Viper - Cobra Heavy Machine Gunner

Cross Country

Cross Country's primary military specialty is armor, and his secondary military specialty is heavy equipment operator. His father was a bulldozer operator, and his mother drove a grader, therefore he had a natural affinity for heavy machinery, coupled with an uncanny sense of direction and fearlessness under fire. Cross Country is also the H.A.V.O.C. driver

I refuse to vote. I look at the final 2 contestants and wonder how many people would of voted for these if a standard figure was posted instead of a custom. In my opinion the customs are great. The "actual figures are garbage" and I could care less if ether of them are made. I feel this so called democratic process has been compromised by not posting the actual figure to be voted for. I DECLARE SHENANIGANS!!!

I'm pretty stunned that I have to choose between these two. No particular interest in ether.

I also find it odd that the pictures used are of customs. Wouldn't it make more sense to use the vintage pictures, as this is what Hasbro would be basing their design off of? I get that these show "here is what this could look like", but it does seem like the better customs would unfairly skew the voting.

Oh well, here's hoping Hasbro ignores this poll and makes a Pythona as an exclusive at some point!

In order to qualify for March madness, Someone has to make a custom of the figure (to show that there is interest in this figure being produced.) That's why they are showing ME customs.

Raw Dog
04-03-2012, 04:36 PM
I picked Cross Country because I think Hasbro will make a SAW Viper figure eventually, with out in put from an online forum about toys that is mostly used by adults (I think?) and winning a poll like this is likely Classic Cross Country's best chance of getting made. Does that make sense? I hope so, because otherwise I may be slightly insane!

Superjoe74
04-03-2012, 04:48 PM
Cross Country was a cool figure but, like most Joes in Sunbow his character was something of a dweeb. Nevertheless, I voted Cross Country.

I have to wonder how of all the characters did it come down to these two? I think this poll is rigged.

Maybe, I will register under a different name and vote again too..

SAW Viper deserves the win. Both as the troop builder, and the unique character that wiped out a bunch of Joes. Other than Scar Face, he's the only guy in Cobra that came up through the ranks.

The only way I'd like to see a Cross Country figure, is if it were just a lump of plastic with no articulation at all. Just so I can read the complaints about it.

Now that I think about it, how did the SAW Viper not do us all a favor and shoot Cross Country while he was at it? I'd much rather have Breaker or Quick Kick have lived than that cornpone hick.

I had Cross Country as a kid, and I never liked him. I loved the havoc and had no idea why it came with such an awful looking fig. All of my Cobra vehicals came with sweet drivers. Why couldn't the Havok? Did they waist all the awesome on the tank with a freakin' hovercraft in the back?

I don't army build but I'd def. buy Saw viper. I wouldn't pay a dollar for a clearance 30th Cross Country. Not even to rip him apart.

Can't decide. I like both characters, but hated both figures. They were terrible. The 2nd version of both was way better, and with modern Articulation they could both look decent. I'm just afraid the color schemes will remain too true to the originals.

Pink Lavender and Magenta are just terrible colors for any figure. Not to mention the skinny little figure with a gun that's so big he can't hold it. (DTC SAW-Viper was way way better!)

Then there is Cross-Country. Any figure with white and orange who isn't a snow trooper named Snow Job looks silly. Then there is the confederate Cap or Rebel Flag on his jacket/belt buckle.

My hope is they make both, and put CC in a new vehicle of some kind, and make the Overkill version of the SAW-Viper as well.

Didn't Cross Country survive his encounter with the SAW Viper? Heck, he even inflicted some damage when they commandeered the Mobile Battle Bunker. In the end, it is a draw between the two - but you have to give Cross Country a lot of credit for a driver taking on Cobra's most decorated troop.

I disagree. If I had to guess, I'd say that most folks who don't have a problem with it are less likely to post that sentiment than those who feel the process is worth complaining about.

Another thing to consider is, a vast majority of the figures that folks would want to see made already have been. So we're essentially voting for lower tiered characters, anyway.

At the end of the day, the final two were determined by votes. If anyone else is upset with the results of a competition basically created for the fun of it, the problem is with the Tankers who voted.

Jettfire
04-04-2012, 04:45 PM
cause people are on the fence about who they hate less.

There might be some truth to this. After the 25th, RoC, PoC, and the 30th, this is kinda who we're left to decide over.

Of course there are always going to be exceptions, and every character is someone's favorite somewhere. There are an easy dozen characters I like more than Cross Country, but that's how this is played.

I think the problem, as stated before, is that the choices were grouped by faction. I thought the original idea was that they were tallying the number of times each character was mentioned in that initial thread and then would place them accordingly like a normal bracket.

But yeah, I mean, it's all fun. I just think the results would have been a lot different had it been arranged in a more traditional way.

Another thing to consider is, a vast majority of the figures that folks would want to see made already have been. So we're essentially voting for lower tiered characters, anyway.

I dunno, I think there are quite a few heavy hitters left. To me, S.A.W. Viper is the low tier, so I guess it's a matter of perspective. But in my mind, anyone from 82-86 and the 87' movie that hasn't been made is sorely missed.

As a joe fan I am excited for any new figure we can get, as a joe fan I am kind of sad that out of so many great choices this is really are final two. And its not that I am not for these figures, for years i have heard fans beg and cry for hasbro to make certain figures, then in this experiment they get blown away. Just makes me not sure what anyone wants... witht that said, I still dont know who i am voting for. lol

Cross Country doesn't stand a chance, looks like the SAW Viper will finally do what he couldn't in Behnzeen!

I do not remember ever seeing the final result of this. Was there ever a conclusion?
