Well it's about time.

Hisstank has surpassed YoJoe.com years ago and I am glad to see this information springing up here now.

I would love to help and contribute to this growing list.

The one thing I don't like is how much space it takes up on the left hand bar. Maybe put it below the recent threads?

We will probably do that, just want to give it some play since it's new. After it's old hat and known by the masses, will move down since the new threads list will more frequently be looked at.

I still havent used it, but I would humbly suggest it to the mods to the bar of the database be under the new threads. To keep the closer to the old look and also easier to see the new threads. Thanks for reading.

I know I'm part of the team that did this initial work, but the one thing that I really dig and makes me nerd out are these links:

Entries for Crimson Guard (sub team) - G.I. Joe Toy Database (http://www.hisstank.com/database/sub-team/Crimson+Guard/)
Entries for Dreadnok (sub team) - G.I. Joe Toy Database (http://www.hisstank.com/database/sub-team/Dreadnok/)
Entries for Iron Grenadier (sub team) - G.I. Joe Toy Database (http://www.hisstank.com/database/sub-team/Iron+Grenadier/)
Entries for Trooper (sub team) - G.I. Joe Toy Database (http://www.hisstank.com/database/sub-team/Trooper/)
Entries for Viper (sub team) - G.I. Joe Toy Database (http://www.hisstank.com/database/sub-team/Viper)

Being able to click that, and see them all, kicks ass IMO. When I went back in just to browse around after it was done, used that to verify what's in my collection, and what I need to get because I skipped it originally.

looks good. One thing that I really like about yojoe.com is they tell the version # so I can easily buy or sell a figure that I am looking for... especially when it comes to CC, SS, and SE. Maybe I missed the version # on here.
Its definitely an interesting project, cant wait to see more.

There definitely needs to be an alphabetical listing in addition to just the photos. If you're looking for a 25th Zarana, that's a lot of scrolling!

Perhaps an expandable/collapsable index on the left side?

We were actually doing that initially but it became very confusing. Not sure if we will go back to that, can't make any promises but we'll see.

BTW just wanted to add, this database has been in the works for a lot longer than anyone might think. Awesome to see it come together.

As far as I understand it, the version number is a thing that YoJoe etc made up, and maintains. Which is cool, but since it's not official, and maintained by them, I think it's best we don't get into it.

We've tried to use year, and a descriptive term to differentiate the figures in the system.

Example: Snake Eyes (2010) (Temple Guardian) etc etc.

If you click on the "All Versions of Snake Eyes" from any of his pages, it should show you the figures *mostly* in order of release.

Example: Entries for Snake Eyes (name) - G.I. Joe Toy Database (http://www.hisstank.com/database/name/Snake+Eyes/)

Cool, no problem. I'm just answering all questions for everyone that's reading. It's new and different and may be confusing, so it's not a problem to ask questions.

And if we find that our methods suck, and everyone is always confused, we'll try to fix it down the road.

First off I want to say great idea and thank you very much for taking the time to do this.

Second, I was wondering if there will be any way in the future to use this as a collecting tool where we can click on a figure and add it to a "owned" list similar to the way the Action Figure Checklist website works? (I don't think they've updated their site with anything after the ROC figures.)

Third, in the future will you be posting separate images of some of the weapons and accessories which come with the figures? (I see some have been done already, but not all.)

1 - Thanks!

2- Possible, but not right now.

3 - Most that we have done photo shoots for ourselves, have a single picture with all weapons. We will do our best to get the ones that don't. As we do photo shoots of other figures (25th, couple others), yes, we will do a "weapons shot".

So yes, our goal is to have a "weapons shot" for every figure in the database.

Question on figure "classification":
Are we going by the "trademarked name", or "general consensus"?

Best example I'm seeing immediately is Hawk and Duke:
As of 2008, Hasbro is using "GI Joe Hawk" on the packaging, 2009 sees them go back to "General Clayton "Hawk" Abernathy". Some of the 2011 Duke figures sport "Conrad "Duke" Hauser" on some figures, and Hasbro was using the two terms interchangably on the 2009 figures

What is the plan for varied naming terms, as I'm seeing the modern era figures simply labeled "Hawk", even though the 2009 figures are all called "General Hawk"?

Really, right now, it's all over the place.

At times, we removed "Cobra" from "Cobra Viper" or "Cobra Air Trooper" etc.

We also tried to remove "G.I. Joe" from "G.I. Joe XYZ". Things that were done because of copyright.

There is also the issue of rank, like LT and SGT. Some variations have it, others dont, and sometimes a guy goes between SGT and Lt. Yet, is still the same character.

However, after we did the initial import like that, we developed the "view all versions" link and coding, so it's less necessary to muck around with the title name.

We can go back and fix it so all character names in the listings are what is shown on the box.

However, when you click "View all versions of Hawk" - it will still pull up all the different spellings, ranks, and versions of his name. "Hawk" will always be used for that internal linking, since we need a singular term to use on all entries over time.

So yeah, all over the place right now, can be fixed/adjusted based on desires of the community. Good place to talk about this more is the new Database Sub Forum - The HissTank Database Community Forum - HissTank.com - G.I. Joe (http://www.hisstank.com/forum/hisstank-database-community-forum/)

All the ignorant "us vs YoJoe" bullshit aside, this is a huge project and from what I can see, it's been given a lot of thought and care. The finished product is certainly different than what I have been used to, but it will definitely be a good resource for me as a collector. I applaud the staff for rolling out such an impressively large project and look forward to seeing the other parts come on line....especially the international section.

This site is nice, but the "HissTank vs. the world" junk grates on me to no end. The community is larger than this site, or the people who frequent it. The staff here isn't in to all of that stuff - so why do some posters here feel the need to constantly perpetrate this nonsense?

When there are multiple resources out there for the fans to access, we ALL win.

Some resources are better than others. If you had a choice, which would you gravitate towards? Hit me up on my Myspace account.
