I really do not like the current 25th offering for Mindbender, so here goes one of my first attempts.
The idea with him is to get more of the comic look to him. I am not going for a one for one part and piece for him (I wont put the cod piece on this on...toying with the idea of a sleevless trench coat, and not sure about the chains yet) I am open to any input at this time.
For now here is what I have working.
I really like the techno-viper in general and cant get my mind off of using them for this. (Also in the Joe Verse that is my head the Techno Vipers report to Mindbender for his dastardly plots, making Mindbender a sort of Techno-Viper Commander...I digress)
So
1. head: retooled and cast MU Absorbing man
2. torso: Gung-Ho cut and retooled with Techno_viper midsection
3. Arms: Gung-ho/ Techno Viper (lower arms sanded a bit to make the upper-lower arm ready for skin color
3. Legs Techno Viper
4. Cape: MU doom for now, may use one of our local parts makers sleeveless trench..
5. I have some custom epoxy chains and cod piece that look good, but pre paint look like they will mess up some of the smooth like I think I may get out of this route...We will see... I will use plastic for the monocle..
so here is where I am pre-sand/paint...

looks like you are getting ready to destroy the production fig

I hope so..My problem is I think my ideas are much better than my painting... so I may totally mess this up with a bad paint job, but hey, I guess thats how I will learn

I see what you're doing there & I like it. Same here on my painting skills. I've had awesome ideas only get screwed to hell by my pitiful attempts at painting. I can't wait to see the finished product here though.
I like everything except that Chest... Gung-Ho's sculpt sucks balls. I think he'd look a lot better if you tracked down a Quick Kick Torso and arms, or even a ROC Storm Shadow chest & arms.

yeah I also like the Roadblock later version chest or the figure from the Jurassic pack discontinued...may be the same...
I had a cut up gung ho that I used the camo pants for a MU/Joe Sgt Slaughter project I am working on as well...so this was more of a economical parts decision...but you are right this is by far the lesser of any shirtless sculpts.

I never liked the official Mindbender either. Hope you make something you will be satisfied with! I like the Techno-Viper angle.

Ok update time.
Need to clean up a couple of non-smooth parts in the arm area.
Still working on the cape, just a base coat and first black coat down, may go with a sleeveless trench still
need to build the monocle
I made a stamp using aves of the techno-viper belt. Going to attempt to shave and sand this, paint it and replaces the circles on the Doom cape.
With the look so far, I am confirming that the cod piece and chains may remain away from my custom version....

I really like the idea of him being the T-V-Commander!! I made a custom of him using the v3 mindbender head and the gung-ho/crimson guard body like the DOCI v6 and the VC Darth Vader cape. I think yours is gonna look much better than mine.

Whoa, I like that...you nailed the look...is that web gear part of the Vader cape, and is it removable?
I don't want the cod piece on mine, but it looks good on yours, however I couldn't quite get a removable web gearing to work for me, so I was going to punt on the chains all together...but I like the way you did yours, it fits perfectly (translation..I may totally steal that Idea...)

He is coming along very nicely. How different is the comic Dr. from the Cartoon and card art?

None...I was doing a Slaughter custom at the same time and posted his WIP, that thought actually bled over from that I guess...
Matter a fact my version is not really like any of them, and may be even less if I go with a sleeveless trench. I chalk it up to not enough Coffee....

I think you you could call him your ME/30th Mindbender. I have an extra T-V and I am getting a couple shirtless SS from a trade. So, if you want to steal my web gear Idea I may steal your figure design.

This is interesting but that head looks a tad large on that torso...the first pic makes him look like that boss from double dragon, abobo?

It is indeed a little large, however the picture aspect makes it look worse. Once his cape is on and such it looks appropriate. A little large, but hey the ARAH mindbender and even the cartoon/comic mindbender has quite a cranium...

This little piece is fantastic. I love the vision you had for the custom with the parts you chose, and it looks like its coming together with that vision.

I actually got to try out the Sleeveless trench from Vortious Customs today... It is money, I am applying a little paint and such, but I really like the way it is looking....

I have some detailing to do on the jacket, but I quickly slapped some shiney silver on the trim and really like it.
I feel like the sleeveless tench with the silver trim, may take care of the cape and chains idea, while totally updating the look...
opinions on the jacket? I think it looks pretty tough. Still trying to get a monocle I like...

That does work great! I'm really glad you like the trench coat, and the silver on the lapels, and collar is a really nice touch.
