I doubt Hasbro ever put it in the Joe-canon (correct me if i am wrong) that drugs/narcotics help finance the Cobra effort.
I always thought it did, come on...let's be practical. if Cobra would use manipulation and mind control, why not?
anyway, if the Joes were to put together a squad for fighting the drug war, which Joes would be in it?
Who would you want in it?
and what vehicles would they get specifically for the job?

They had a whole team, the Drug Elimination Force. They fought Headman the Cobra drug kingpin.

I would like to see Flint, Dusty, Roadblock, Shockwave, Law & Order, Mutt & Junkyard, Wet-Suit(Navy Seal Style not Diver) at the very least. And for vehicles Awe Strikers, VAMP's, APC....

Headman was not Cobra he had his own criminal organization called the Evil Head Hunters
version one of the headhunters makes no mention of a Cobra affiliation
version two (battle corps) does mention a cobra connection but has no mention of any drug activity just criminal activity
and in the DIC cartoon Cobra wanted nothing to do with the spark dealer in fact the Joes and Cobra teamed up against him to stop a mutual threat.
There was no way Hasbro was gong to condone drug dealing.

The DEF was awesome! I especially like the Headman and his Headhunters, the latter in particular. The whole concept reminds me of that video game Bad Boys. Does anybody remember that? That "S" was sick. Mr Big, the game's villainous boss becomes an oversized, tongue spitting, severed head at the end. Two words bro: wicked pissah dude! But yeah, those DEF toys were totally radical! Cowabunga!

DEF had some awesome molds. The colors also looked really good.

Yeah, I agree. I understand the argument that the neon colors of the 90's weren't the best, but don't remember that being the case with the DEF figures. If memory serves me correctly, they were actually some of the best figures from the time period.

Yeah there was nothing too garish about DEF. Not like Mega Marines, or ECO Warriors, or Ninja FOrce, or Star Brigade(actually not that bad)
It seemed like they all were Hasbro reusing their C.O.P.S. line of characters. (Many share Joe codenames: Bulletproof, Mace, Long-Arm, Barricade, HardTop, Mainframe, Inferno, Airwave, Mirage and CheckPoint.)

I'm not going to lie...DEF was a pretty cool line. The card art was great and even the light up weapons were different. Cutter and the Shark9000 I think it was were awesome. My favorite was shockwave because of the cool looking helmet he came with. The colors weren't as bright as everything else coming out at that time as well.

As far as vehicles...other than the Shark9000, they should have had an Awe Striker since every line pretty much does. Maybe some kind of helo.

Law & Order and Shockwave would be deinite members. Maybe Bullhorn or Low-Light too. Cutter and Topside for the maritime effort. Some kind of armored car with a battering ram would be good. I liked the DEF team.

I think you touched on all the obvious ones, plus I might include Chuckles as an undercover agent (the original lineup had a character named Mace in that role).
You could argue for some of the modern sculpt characters too. I don't really know that era well, but Barrell Roll and the David Lane, Shockwave repaint (forget his name) could fit in too. Both are in the FSS.
DEF would fit in well with the current IDW storyline. Plus, given the background of many Joes, it is a natural sub-team.

DEF was awesome. Colors were subdued and each came with cool individual accessories. Shockwave was my favorite as well followed by Bullet Proof! Bullhorn would have been a cool edition to the team along with Mace and Long Arm
The Shark 9000 was a very cool boat. Other vehicles that would have been cool to be part of it would have been the Mudbuster...call it the Drugbuster.

They had the DEF, though why fighting a druglord would be the military's job is beyond me.

IDW has had the drug trade financing some of Cobras operations.

Special Forces guys have been used all throughout the War on Drugs. They send guys down to places like Colombia to train their soldiers to hunt down the drug lords. Some people think that it was actually the Delta Force that killed Pablo Escobar, though that is not confirmed.
With that being said, if there was a new DEF, I think Falcon would be a good choice to be the commanding officer, though I like Bullet Proof just fine, and I would love to have an updated figure of him.

In my verse Cobra and drugs go pretty much hand in hand
Headman controls supply and distribution the dreadknoks are the direct dealers to the consumers, Alley Vipers provide security for all warehouses and deliveries. Extensive enterprises handles all legal counsel and Accounting for the front company used to launder the money.
All the Joes DEF and battle corps DEF are in the FBI operation to expose Extensive Enterprises as a Cobra front. as well as Lady Jaye, Bull Horn, Heavy Duty, Law, Wide scope, Low light, Dial Tone,
all the Joes are undercover working for the FBI (since US Military is not supposed to operate on American soil) They have 2 FBI liaisons with them Sure Fire (i know his file card says CID but I changed it) and Impact (my made up character)
Lightfoot and Ambush went to Law School after they left the Joes and make up my prosecution team.
Ice Cream Soldier was on the Joe team for like a week before the team was disbanded so he went to School and became an accountant. he is in the middle of this tracking the funds from the shell companies back to Extensive Enterprises.
in my verse its a pretty big operation with about 10% of the Joes involved in one way or another.
