Yeah, girlfriend and I got a couple tickets. In a pool at work as well.
Big question is what would you do with that much money?
Me?
I'd take the lump sum (if take the yearly, can't pass it on to family). I'd take at least 1/2 that and put it in safe/long term investments, make it make more money.
I'd use some of the rest and set it aside for my nieces/nephews/kids of friends so their college educations would be paid for.
I'd buy a large amount of land on a lake and build a decent sized house. House size isnt' big for me, I'd rather have the land. But would need a large garage for the toys (boat, snowmobiles, jet skis, etc..). Would also need a stable for the girlfriends horse.
Would buy a couple cars. Nothing fancy.
At this point I've probably spent 2 mil, if that.
I'd quit my current job and start a development company. Buying property and developing land, etc.. So I'd be able to work when I feel like it.
My parents would be all set. My siblings and close friends (the ones consider family) would get some nice gifts to help them out (mortgages paid off, cars paid off, that kind of thing).

You can get quick picks, right? Or do you have to fill out the card?

I'd form some kind of legal entity which put $5mm in investments, from which I and eventually my legal heirs could only collect the interest, and which legally bestowed me with $100,000 a year (that number would adjust with inflation), but prevented me from taking any more than that annually.
Then I'd have some sort of foundation established that took the rest of the money, invested that, and donated the interest earned to causes I approved of. The foundation would have a board which would have to approve of the cause, and then I would have to sign off on it personally in order for the funds to actually be given.

Quick picks.
Derek, I'd end up doing something similar with the majority of it. I don't need anything extravagent to live. I wouldn't need a huge house.
Once I built the house (with large office/collection room), got the toys and cars (and not expensive cars, nothing fancy and really only a truck, family SUV and sports car), motorcycle, water toys and snowmobile I wouldn't want/need anything else.
And I'd still be working. Part time, but still be working and at a job that would generate money, so I wouldn't need more then 50,000 a year to live on (if think about it, with no mortgage or car payments, 100,000 is alot) if that. And that would be living very nice.
Ah, nice to dream.

It's all the way up to $640 million now.
Invested a whole $10...5 in an office pool. 5 for myself.
Quick picks.

Throw most of the money into a simple CD and you'll easily be able to live off of the interest. If you really want to work...volunteer or something...interest would be capital gains tax (which is taxed at a much lower rate than income taxes) so you keep more of your money.
Or if you work, do something you really love and don't even worry about whether you actually make money at it or not. For instance: I'd totally open up a comic/game/toy/hobby shop somewhere. It might never make money, but I'd make sure it was the most awesome place around for geeks of past, present, and future to hang out and have fun.
Heck, if the business takes losses you can write 'em off in your taxes!

I'd start up multiple things.
I like the idea of a hobby/comic/toy shop but I also like what I do now: architecture.
I'd like to still do that. So thats where the development comes in. I'd buy up old property, renovate it, and manage it. Or do housing developments, etc..
I'd also start up a comic book publishign company, animation, etc...
Would probably then buy up one of the local comic/toy shops and add an office for the development onto the shop so could enjoy everything at once.

They limit the lottery in Canada to $50 million Max. but then they have multi $1 million secondary draws.
That way they give it to us in 1 lump sum tax free.

Never heard of this before, so that shows you how much I play the lottery (twice in my entire life I think). But tonight marks the third time, as I sent the wife out to get some tickets. Somebody has to win it, right?
i would pay off my house, car and student loans
then give my house to my brother and buy him a new truck and pay off his debts
pay off my moms house and debts
buy my dad a house and a few muscle cars
after allllllllllllll the important stuff is out of the way
take all my friends and family out for a big ass celebration
i would do some traveling (not in an airplane)
I would buy a big ass piece of property on a lake michigan or something and build a house. I wouldnt have a 30,000 square foot mansion, but a nice size house, all decked out, with a big ass pole barn. It would have to has a swimming pool as well.
i would probably get a Cadillac CTS-V Coupe and a Buick Enclave or some other type of truck/suv and maybe 1 or 2 classic cars
i would start buying the expensive toilet paper :D
im not really sure what else i would do besides nice house and cars
I know i would have a really hard time adjusting to not having to work, since Ive had a job since i was 14 and always had to work for what i wanted. I would have to donate some to a charity and invest some. Eventually i would try to start my own buisness. I know this sounds stupid, but i always wanted my own car detailing shop. I wouldnt mind being a multi-millionare cleaning other peoples cars lol
everyday would be a saturday :D

i didnt win.:(
if i would ever win big,buy me a mountain, build a fortress (not huge but extremely strong.a few cars but no bugatti veyron, they are a waste of money, cost about 300k a year to keep on the road from what i read.
of course i would help out some family and charities, but at my own pace since the moochers come out of the woodwork.
but while i wouldnt turn down a win,i doubt i would want that much money as i dont got trust in people to take care of my money, well if i had that much.
i could think of a few other things like effing with groups that annoy me by annoying them, but i'll keep that stuff to myself.:p

I forgot to buy a ticket, but if I won big then I would probably give most of it away. I can't imagine what I would spend that much money on and there are so many out there in need that it would feel like a waste to sit on all of it myself. After taking care of the kids and family I wouldn't mind completing my Joe collection and I'd probably quit my job and pursue an education. Maybe I'd become a doctor and a lawyer or something. Maybe I'd buy a bunch of exercise equipment and get really buff too. Yeah, that'd be sweet. I'd definitely get buff with all that money.

2 numbers... that's all... but in other news a senator here in Washington is using the lottery amount as a push for a state income tax. his concern: that with no State income tax the state doesn't get a fair chunk of the 600+ million dollars if it is won in Washington state. pppbbblllttt!
my gf won $10
i told her to be more specific when you say "i hope i win the lottery"

I didn't win either, but it's nice to dream once and a while when the numbers get that high.
