Pythona vs. Cross Country GIJOE March Madness 2012

Pythona

As an emissary for the kingdom of Cobra-La, this bizarre attraction she brings out from others enables her to get their undivided attention. Should they choose not to listen to the message she brings from her master, Golobulus, her lightning quick reflexes, fighting skills and poison-tipped claws will make them regret for doing so.

Cross Country

Cross Country's primary military specialty is armor, and his secondary military specialty is heavy equipment operator. His father was a bulldozer operator, and his mother drove a grader, therefore he had a natural affinity for heavy machinery, coupled with an uncanny sense of direction and fearlessness under fire. Cross Country is also the H.A.V.O.C. driver

I voted for Cross Country because as much as I loved the animated Joe movie and Pythona in particular, I love that southern fried Joe CC that much more! That, and I'm not a huge fan of Cobra-La in general, lol!

Cross country is the worst Joe ever. That's why them made him sit unprotected on a green box, so he could be shot first.

I can't believe I voted for Cross Country but he's better than the alternative. Death to Cobra La!

I actually wouldn't mind a new Cross Country, but I'm pissed since he knocked out Iceberg and Bombstrike.

You people are weird.

i cant believe a hillbilly driver of one of thee worst vehicles ever (canopy of death, chair of death) is beating out Pythona, with all the clamoring for female figures and want for a wider range of things people are voting for cross country?!!!

Cross Country is a recipe for disaster. He is wearing a Confederate States Kepis (hat) and has the Confederate Battle Flag on his belt-buckle. This figure would be seen as racist and would draw HEAVY criticism from a lot of people. Especially, if one looks at his 1993 version, there is little defending that this figure is racially charged.
So in order for Hasbro to put him out at all, they'd have to seriously change his colors, remove his belt-buckle and tone him WAY down... which would just mean that we'd have people disappointed that after all the voting, we didn't get what we wanted, but a watered down version.

Pythona = AWESOME fantasy figure without the slightest possibility of controversy.

I cry pardon to all who love her, but Pythona does not belong in my Joe-verse. I'm going with Cross Country on this one. So long as he's made with the ability to tilt his frikkin neck and see where the hell he's going in the HAVOC.

I think cross country's popularity all stems from the cartoon. He was a fun character, and lets face it most of this country is just a little country which appeals to our sensihillbillies. There ain't nothing appealing about a bald purple chick with crabs.

I would assume they would have to change his look. Thank God one of the worst figures ever! His head was just stupid. The rebel flag will have to go too. They could reinvent him as a Stryker driver or something.

Glad to see there are more intelligent people here then haters. Cross Country all the way. but I agree that they need to get rid of the flags. And I do still love Cobra La.

Cross Country was a good character. I had the HAVOC as a kid and liked it too....though as a kid i never realized the drivers would be sitting ducks in that thing.
His character in the cartoon was far better than his figure though...but the battle corps version was way better.
Pythona on the other hand has never had a figure...
So, why is it so hard to get a figure made of one of the best characters from the gi joe movie? I've wanted a Pythona figure for years. come on, guys! I wanna see Pythona get a proper figure. PLEASE!

And I loved, loved, LOVED the Dukes when I was a youngster (before GI Joe).

I wouldn't want an updated Cross Country without either his look from the original figure, or preferably his Battle Force figure, rebel flag included.

This.

There is nothing racist about the Confederate flag. If we choose to censor the Confederate flag because it was an emblem representative of slavery (which it is absolutely not), then we should get rid of the Stars and Stripes and all of it's incarnations over our country's history because it was the banner actually being carried while Union troops slaughtered hundreds and thousands of Native Americans and politicians stole their land and fed them spoiled rations while on reservations. The Stars and Bars wasn't flown over plantations in military campaigns against African Americans.

You won't find many people who would agree with that up in the Northeast where Hasbro's Headquarters is. Its almost a certainty that if CC is ever remade he won't have the flag anywhere on him because Hasbro would much rather face the small amount of collector grief about the figure not being exactly like the original vs the potential backlash of using it.

The weird thing is that what we think of as the confederate flag was actually not the confederate flag during the civil war. At that point there was either two thirds white with the top left third having that in it, or the "blood stained banner" that was like above, but with a red stripe down the right side.

As far as "nothing racist"... I may have to disagree. The swastika started out as a Tibetan symbol for peace. Obviously because of WWII it now has other meanings attached to it. I'm not saying everyone who uses the swastika is a Nazi supporter, but I understand it making people leap to the wrong conclusion. Basically what I'm saying is some racists have spoiled your symbol of the south, and "nothing" is now too strong a word. Rather, it is not necessarily racist.

Unfortunately, that is true. There is nothing racist about the confederate flag, but there can be racial pretenses by some who fly it.

Not a symbol for Racism, rather a symbol Racists use. Not saying Racists are the only people that use it. But if you use it, be prepared for people to lump you in with the other @$$es that also use it.

Point of order: it was a different flag that had less stars.

That's why I said, "in all it's incarnations in our country's history".

It got some of those extra stars (states) through such deplorable acts like breaking our own treaties and grabbing land already set aside for Native Americans usually when things like gold were found in the Black Hills for example.

I lived in the Southern United States for years (don't let the Username fool you) - and grew to understand and appreciate Southern Pride. Frankly, it breaks my heart that the Battle Flag of the Confederate States has been so tarnished by MODERN skin-head, Aryan, racist groups. But as someone already pointed out, a symbol maintains its power by those who continue to use it (ie, Swastika).

Therefore, I think requesting Cross Country in his original form from Hasbro is a waste of votes, and spoils the premise of this exercise. It puts Hasbro is an untenable position, re-release a character that is substantially different from the original and risk the wrath of collectors, or release the original figure and risk the label of being racist (in an era when that is political and corporate suicide).

Cross Country, much like the proud Confederate Soldiers of old, will have to remain a piece of history.

I don't put anything on my truck, so probably. Autism magnets would be place on the hood of my wife's car when she tried to put them on my truck - I just don't put anything on my car.

By definition, that's a stereotype, a close relative of racism. Hell, it may even be outright racist to say something like that.

Would you like me to come up with exact pictures of the KKK and Arian nation using that flag, because what I said is it is "a symbol racists use." That is not a stereotype.

A stereotype would be "All racists use that symbol" or "everyone who uses that symbol is racist." I am not saying either of those things. Understand the difference between SOME and ALL.

And racism is by definition "1: a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race
-or-
2: RACIAL prejudice or discrimination" (merriam webster)

Who I'm singling out are people who are doing something by choice. I am not singling out people for the way they are born.
