I got a VvV Crosshair for his accessories.
One of the rifles was something called a Sound Attack weapon.
My question is, what purpose did this serve? It has a part that seems to be made to attach to something.
Can anyone give me a clue?

The Sound Attack feature was from the two pack version (it was Spy Troops, not VvV). I'm not familiar with that line, wasn't into Joes when it was out, but if you check YoJoe.com (click here (http://www.yojoe.com/action/03/crosshair.shtml)) and look at the two pack card back, you can read a little more about it. Looks like there were several different weapons that produced various sounds when used with a Sound Attack vehicle.

Never collected VvV. Some of the vehicles though have a place where you can clip in a sound attack weapon. I dont know if different guns resulted in different sounds, or if you just plugged one it to enable the button.

Those weapons look horrible, though, don't they? Big 'ol square sticking off the top of the gun...

I checked on YoJoe, and I see a big list of the weapons themselves but noting on what the purpose was.
But I guess clipping them to a vehicle makes sense. But how would the Joe use the gun?

Ok, checked the History of Joe site, it said the sound attack weapons fit into slots on vehicles and made noise.

Read the top paragraph on this cardback for a little more info.

Exactly that, actually. If you look on the reverse side of the Sound Attack tab, you'll notice a number of ridges. Sound Attack-capable vehicles, such as the Night Attack Chopper, HISS IV, reissued Rattler, Conquest, and Snowcat had ports on them with a series of metal strips on the bottom. The ridges on the tab would press down on one or more of the strips, and depending on the combination, would produce a different sound- I forget how many different sounds there were exactly, but one of the more unique (and functionally useless) was Cobra Commander's staff, which would produce a snake-like "hissing" noise when plugged in.

Each figure usually came with two guns: One had a "sound attack" tab but the other was a conventional firearm. As such I dumped the gimmick piece right away (although some of them looked okay fixed to the vehicles)

Only thing better is firing missiles. I love the cheesy stuff. I spent a fortune on small batteries trying to fix up a bunch sound attack vehicles I a bought in a lot.

I think they were copying the interactive Simpsons playset idea at the time.

LOVED sound attack...that was my generation of Joes..Goood times.
Some of the sounds were cool..some guns looked awesome attached to the vehicles...When I got tired of the huge ass squares I cut them off with scissors. They look fine afterwards.
Also, Crosshair is the greatest figure of all time.

Some guns worked really well when attached to a vehicle, and others not so much. The guns looked ridiculous being held by the figures though!
