View Full Version : Items you regret selling over the years

Due to low funds, I sold off the majority of my old Joe stuff years ago at both flea markets and ebay.
These are my biggest regrets:
-Tomahawk (near complete, only missing windshield)
-Killer Whale
-Hydrofoil
-Joe Headquarters (original)
-Cobra Stinger (complete)
-MMS (complete)
-Terrordrome (fully functional and near complete)
-More figures than I care to list

If I could get one item back, it would be the Tomahawk.

I had almost all of the Vintage SW figures mint loose. Sold them off because I saw how much money I could get for them. Have regretted it ever since. Still havent replaced them.

That's kind of why I sold my Joes.
I was getting back into SW and saw what I could get for them. Then, I got back into Joes a few years later.
Dumb moves.

Yeah I hear that. Now I just open everything. Less tempting to sell it.

I still would have sold the Terrordrome.
Took up too much space and even when i was little, I honestly didn't care for it much. I played with the pack-ins more than the base itself.

Never had that base. Always wanted it. Biggest thing I got when I was little was the Thunderclap. And to me it was the best. I played with it till it broke apart and then improvise.

Well, I didn't sell it, but...

Back in the early 2000's, way before I got back into Joes and TFs, I let my Dad give some kid my Tomahawk. All my Joe stuff was in a big box at his place and he claimed this kid didn't get much in the way of toys, etc. for his birthday, so I said yes.

Selfishly, I do regret it, but hopefully the kid actually played with it and got enjoyment out of it.

I really wish I had that thing now, though!

As a kid, I was rotten. I had just about eveything that came out for both GI Joe and HeMan, plus the first three years or so worth of Transformers.

90% of my childhood collection is still with me.....but when I was in high school we had a garage sale and I sold all of my MOTU vehicles and playsets for like 40 bucks. I had it all - Greyskull, Snake Mountain, Point Dread, all the horses cats and birds, and so on. But the one item that was there that sticks in my craw to this day was that I had Eternia. I probably got like five bucks for it as Parton the whole deal.....and now I couldn't replace it for less than $500.

I also drove a 1966 GTO while I was in college. I sold it shortly after I graduated because it needed some repairs that I couldn't afford at the time. I sold it for $9k but if I could have just put about $3k into it I could have kept it. Those things bring $30k now.

I gave away my high school lettermans jacket to some chick I met at summer camp. Ended up never seeing her again. D'oh!

For Joes....the only real regret I have is trading away my MOC UK Spirit.

My original 1982-1983 Joe figures. I sold them back in 2006 on eBay. I sold 12 (I kept Snake Eyes and Flash was broken) for about $75.00 shipped. I even had the Mickey Mouse logo version Cobra Commander. At that time I had absolutely no interest in collecting anything. I didn't get back into Joes until about 2008 when I spotted some 25th Joes at retail. I really regret selling those. Those were from my childhood and I would love them back. I can't remember who bought them either. All I saved was the photo.

I also had cut out all of the box artwork from all of the vehicles that I got as a kid. I had the Falcon Glider and the JUMP set with the silver pads Grand Slam. I had almost every vehicle from 1982-1984. It was an awesome collection. Back in the late 1990's when I was moving from apartment to apartment, I ended up throwing all those away in the dumpster. I thought "what do I want to keep these silly toy artwork things for anyways?" I regret that one too. The vintage box art was great.

I traded my 4th hole virginity for a loose trubble bubble and a pouch of Big League Chew. Still wondering why I was drinking that heavily at 7 and how much it affected my choices in life.

Back in the 90's I sold off my Entire Ultraverse Comic collection for $100.00. I had every comic that came out for that line. It has taken me the last 4 years to repurchase the books, I still need a few more to have the collection back. I regret ever selling those books.

I regret having to sell my Starduster, Gold Head Steel Brigade, and pretty much every other valuable ARAH figure I had(and I had a complete 82-94 collection). But, my wife and I put ourselves in the debt we were in and I had to help fix it somehow. Oh well. I'll get them back one day. No rush. New priorities in my life have changed my collecting habits over the last 4 years and I would sell those 2 for anything!

My little brother getting into my shit and losing or damaging several figures and vehicles. I'm pretty sure he's the reason my first Flagg fantail railing and Moray spotlight lens were lost.

The two Joe toys I miss most from my childhood? The mint (and cherished) Tomahawk that my brothers destroyed back in the very early 90's and my Sears Dreadnok Ground Assault and Air Assault sets that were also lost to my brothers a little earlier. The misc surviving pieces/parts were sold on eBay late last year.

On the plus side, they never got to my OG Night Raven or both Morays so it isn't all bad!

I had all the TRU 97 figures and vehicles at one time and I traded several of them for other things. If I had known back then that there would be ebay and these forums in the future I would have held on to them.

I sold my Tomahawk, 2 Dragonflies, 2 Moray's, a Night Raven, 2 Conquests and shitloads of ARAH figures.....too many to mention, all because of Star Wars. When Revenge of Sith came out, I dug the Clone troopers, so I army built like crazy, I had over 500 clones at one point. Since then I've sold them all to collect Joe's again. The "cirlce of little plastic men" never ends for me....I would love to have my Tomahawk back though, that thing was mint.

After my wife left me two years ago, I went into a panic and sold a lot of Joe things. I regret selling my mint Ghoststriker plane and my vintage Tiger Rat. And all the loose but incomplete figures that I sold. During a move back in 2003, my wife packed all my Joes and mixed them all up so during my recent panic, I couldn't recall which ones I paid a lot for and which ones I bought for pennies on the dollar.
I just lumped them all in one lot and didn't remember that some were purchased online from Cotswold Collectibles for some good money. Now I'm packing up all my Joes and having my ex-wife hold onto them until I can get a one room apartment or something. Until then, it's homelessness in about a month from now. Good times...NOT.
Was that TMI ? Oh well...

I haven't sold anything since getting into collecting and I don't plan on. Hopefully I will leave it to my son in my will. Although I do wonder happened to all the stuff I played with when I was younger.

Well, I gave away my entire collection when I was about 16. I gave it to my little cousin, and he was really excited about it and I'm sure got lots of enjoyment out of it, so I don't really regret it that much. I just wish I had kept a few of the figures for sentimental reasons ('83 Steeler, Snake Eyes, Scarlett and Stalker, as well as my Steel Brigade figure and a few of the weird customs I made as a kid). I sometimes contemplate getting in touch with him to see if they're still around, but I haven't talked to him in years so I'd feel kind of weird.

More recently, I sold off the ROC Kamakura I've had carded and sitting in a box for a few years. I found him in the wild just because I knew he was rare, and always kind of intended to trade or sell him. But each time I looked at him he grew on me. Since I'm moving cross-country this summer I started to purge things, and Kamakura was the first to go. He went for way less than I had hoped, so now I kind of regret it. If I knew he was going to sell for that I would've just opened him up and kept him. Oh well. I'm only a few parts away from putting together a kitbashed facsimile anyway, so I'll just have to go that route.

I don't regret selling a lot of my figures, just a few.
I do however regret selling the larger items that could be used for backdrops and dios now, especially the original headquarters with the stockade.

I gave my entire transformers collection & most of my Joe collection to my younger cousin when i was 16. Metroplex, Trypticon, all the dinobots, Joe HQ.....so on & so on. I thought i was too old for them. Man do i wish i still had them now.....if nothing else, just to let my son play with them now.

GI Joe-wise, not much. Maybe a bunch of MOC pieces I picked up from stores around 1996, well after Joe was cancelled. I don't know exactly why but I have nearly as much sentimental value for those as I do for my childhood pieces from 1982-1985/6. The rarest I sold off were probably the Power Fighters (Gears/Techno-Viper) but I'm still under the impression they went to a very good home :) I still have one or two pieces I refuse to get rid of (I think one is a Sonic Fighters Tunnel Rat MOC).

What I DO regret is selling off much of my LEGO Star Wars (among others) collection around 2005-2007 or so (needed money, and was in a "dark age" period). I couldn't believe how much they sold for (and I can't believe how much they sell for now!). Took my son to get me out of my "dark age", now both he and I collect LEGO, and I'm convinced I have more LEGO today than I did in 2005 before I sold those sets off.

I owned the USS Flagg when I was younger. It took up so much space in my bedroom my mother had me take it apart and store the parts in a closet. It sat there for years. I ended up GIVING!! it to another kid that lived down the street cause I was no longer into G.I.Joes anymore. It wasn't into until last year I decided to relive my childhood and starting collecting again. I now feel sooo guilty giving that up...Recently, I actually contacted that kid on facebook to see what happened to it...he didn't respond. DOH

I think when you are a teenager you tend to rid yourself of a lot of toys and things when you get older you wish you kept. Oh well, at the time I was into girls, music, and just hanging out with friends.

The DTC RHINO & ROCC. When HTS did that massive clearance on the DTC Joe's, I got 2 RHINO's for $7 each and 2 ROCC's for $10 each. Dont miss the RHINO too much since I did get the ROC version, but I sure miss both ROCC's.

I really haven't sold too many Joes, just a few ME and that hasn't really bothered me. I will hopefully never have to sell anything from 82-95. I did sell a bunch of Star Wars figures and vehicles about 7 years ago and regret it. The only other regret would be throwing out/giving away a bunch of toys years ago over a girl lol. Only lasted 6 months so I should have kept the toys :(

Sold almost my entire ARAH collection at a flea market in the early 90's...most figures were 2 for $1 with accessories and then a kid and his mom bought a bunch of stuff so I made it 3 for $1. Sold all my vehicles at that same time. Oh well...Its been fun reliving the experience collecting the ME stuff.

I have been careful over the years to not sell stuff I really didn't want to sell. There hasn't been much I let go that I personally missed. Really nothing I can think of at all. The only exception is some Star Wars stuff I unloaded a couple of years ago. It wasn't anything valuable or rare and I had better versions of everything already. Problem was I didn't think my son was going to be interested in Star Wars the way I am. I was wrong about that and I would have much rather have gave that stuff to him than sold it. But it's okay, he is still getting his fair share of stuff anyway.

Joe wise I have had and lost Two Flaggs!!! one was sold by my mom due to space when we moved to a condo. She replaced it years later , but I lost in a way too complicated story involving my brothers ex wife :( Outside of Joes I regret selling my 1995 Ferrari F355. I loved that car! I sold it because I was traveling and didnt drive it and insurance was killing me. The guy that bought it lived in Florida...A hurricane destroyed several months after I sold it.

Right after the war started, I sold some choice items for car fixin money. Mint loose 87 A-10 with the box, My Tiger force vehicles, Mint Tiger Fish, (some reason or other I still have the box & bluprints, NM Tiger Shark, and a pretty good, complete Tiger Rat, and a semi-complete Tiger Cat, and a decent Tiger Sting missing the weapons, doors & roof. Also sold one of the cleanest, minty Killer Whales I've ever seen. All of them sold dissapointingly low. I remember I only got 40 something for the whale.

Not sell but traded a MOC Renegades SS for Lifeline and Sci Fi. At the time those were more scarce than the SS and I had another one MOC already. I only don't regret it cause I made a tanker here happy.
Another was leaving all of my and my cousins' 80's and 90's figs and vehicles in my aunts basement through the end of my high school and college yrs. We stored them in about 4 big trash bags. When we got back into Joes in 08 there was a small paper bag of just figs. SMH Just now getting over it.

Yes it is.
I can't believe it hasn't been retooled or repainted yet.
We get the stupid Water Moccasin, AWE Striker, SkyHawk, SkyStriker, even the Rattler!!!.....but no Tomahawk, one of the greatest Joe vehicles ever.
I would love to see a black/grey Tomahawk as a Target exclusive.

I have not sold anything yet. I finally made my dream toyroom earlier this year and have everything out on display. Unfortunately I am going on month 6 of being unemployed and the unemployment checks just do not go as far as they need to. First to go, if I have to do it, will be the blue and orange convention only Morays, followed by the SDCC HISS from this year. After that it will be the 97 TRU stuff. But still hoping it does not have to come to that. Time will Tell I suppose

I sold my sealed in baggie Steel Brigade about 3 years ago when they were only going for about 30.00. I had to pay a lot more recently to replace him.

Other than that there are not a lot of things I regret selling. Most of those items have been replaced over the years although I kind of wish I would have kept my vintage Star Wars MOC collection.

Replaced all the original Joes that I sold for cheaper so I dont regret that. But one stupid thing I did was sell off a load of damaged Action Force. Including a Red Shadow because the Skull had worn off. Then I found out it was a European variation. Gutted.

No regrets... ever...

If I'm willing to sell it, there's a reason (needing extra money, storage space, don't want it anymore, etc..).

And I know, and expect, that I could probably end up getting more money for it down the road. But can never tell the future, so maybe not.

Not worth worrying about.

And if I decide I want the item again, I go and buy it.

I agree in my mind easy come easy go. Everything is obtainable on Ebay. Lots are always found on the cheap. I have sold so many toys in my life for fractions of what I payed for them I am fully aware of that for sure.

Maybe my cartoon Ewok collection I just would never buy them again.

A while back I sold my entire Night Force collection. I had Falcon, Sneak Peek, Crazy Legs, Outback, Tunnel Rat, Light Foot, Muskrat, Shockwave, the Night Scrambler, Night Shade and the worst of all, a Night Boomer. All opened, but in mint condition. Damn I wish I never did that. I will replace them eventually, but for way more than I got when I sold them.
