That looks a lot of fun, and I can ask for no more from a film based on a game that involved sticking pegs in holes. They're definately going after the TRANSFORMERS audience (wisely, I suppose) and the presence of Liam Neeson elevates it somewhat too.
But, if a character says "You sank my battleship" AT ANY POINT, I'll fold up (I notice one of the alien 'bombs' looked like a peg from the board game!). At the end, it'll probaly turn out that aliens were indeed playing a 'game' and using human ships as their 'pieces'.

Yea this movie is going to be cool. Rhinna performance is bad in this movie. She doesn't do it for me. I"m sure it may be the only element most people will not like about this film. Everything else is great.

This isn't the first movie based on a board game, certainly won't be the last. And I think Mouse Trap could make for an excellent animated 3-D childrens movie.
All in all I think this looks like a fun summer movie in the same vein as Transformers (which I loved), so I am definitely looking forward to seeing this!

Are you kidding me? If Liam Neeson does NOT say that as his ship goes down, I'll be furious!
I've had this movie pegged as high-octane CHEESE ever since the first trailer came out last spring - by god, that trailer was awful. Right away, I knew I'd be seeing Battleship with a buddy of mine who likes to joke through these awful, awful films (The remake of The Day The Earth Stood Still remains the worst we've sat through).
The last two trailers have played up Battleship's end of the world type mass destruction and ignored the obviously paper-thin characters and lame romantic subplot that the first trailer rested on, but I still doubt it's anything but a horrible story wrapped up in some lovely SFX.
I'll probably love it to death! :D

anyone think that scene where the bot thing is on the deck at the start would make a sweet looking B.A.T ?

I thought it was the next installment of Transformers when I first saw the trailer in a theatre. Still I will probably go see it

In that trailer it looks like they reused a shot from Transformers of a building falling down. Also the main guy looks a lot like Channing Tatum.

If I remember correctly, there were discussions somewhere about turning that into a movie. No clue if it's still being tossed around. When I first heard about a movie based on Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean ride, I thought, "You've got to be kidding. What could they possibly do with that? It's going to be stupid." Four films later....
Now we have Battleship. I could see Tim Burton do something with Candyland. ;-)

considering that there are no action figures for this movie the answer to that is pretty obvious.

I would have loved to see some toys from this movie. They could have used a lot of the Modern GI Joe molds too. I would have purchased them. Who doesn't need more filler Joes. :D My Flagg needs more Navy members.

except Hasbro did not create this movie to completely change what Battleship is -- a board game, they made it to sell more board games.
an action figure line for this movie doesn't really make much sense from that strategy. they want kids to see this movie, get excited about it and buy the board game. not buy action figures and ignore the board game.
now, even though it makes sense for Hasbro to not make action figures for this movie, what doesn't make sense is to make a movie that clearly would make sense as an action figure product, and kids may actually expect action figures from it.
this is a confused movie and I think is going to actually confuse the market when all is said and done. little Timmy is gonna race to the store to buy some kick ass toys and find out all there is to relive the movie is some board game. not even a video game.

I get what your saying but just to be funny.
That's when you hand him a GIJOE and tell him to STFU!

funny thing is that it could have been a brilliant sub-branding opportunity, creating a Battleship sub brand for action figures under the G.I. Joe brand, not much different than the Street Fighter figures in the 90's.
that way, you leverage the consumer perception of G.I. Joe as an action figure line with the Battleship characters from the movie without altering the primary Battleship brand which is a board game since its figures are only a sub-branding.
that could have been a fantastic opportunity that would have gotten kids to buy G.I. Joes via Battleship.
except with Retaliation coming out at the same time that would confuse the G.I. Joe market which needs to be 100% focused on only being G.I. Joe Retaliation this summer.
funny how even when a no-brainer opportunity is there Hasbro seems to miss out.

Really wish they would release Joe scaled toys from this movie. The alien saw machines would make great modern Buzz Boars, the aliens would looks great in Joe scale, and a Joe scale Battleship would be awesome.

They aren't completely missing out - they're making Battleship Kre-Os, which look fairly awesome. If you're into the Transformers Kre-Os or Legos, these'll fit in nicely, especially the giant Kre-O Battleship itself. Some of the alien stuff looks wrong, but the US military stuff is a great start towards Joe Kre-Os.
At least, I assume once the Retaliation stuff wears down, Hasbro will risk making Joe Kre-Os and expand the brand a little.
Oh, and I'd totally take a Joe-scale Rihanna. ANY new female Joes would be awesome, even if they aren't technically Joes.

Wow I think you nailed it perfectly. They could have worked something out to the betterment of sales and in the process helped revive the GI Joe line... Sigh...

After watching this trailer, this is as close as we're gonna get to see a Buzz Boar, B.A.T.s and Wraith on the big screen.
