Depends. Sometimes I replace my default character with the new one if I like it better. Others I just leave MOC. And of course fodder. Oh I forgot headswapping.

If your talking about troopers, then its to have a different variety for me. Other than that Ill repaint a figure in different colors like Tiger Force or Python Patrol, etc. that hasnt been made in the 25th/30th body style yet.

Various repaints serve purpose for other "team" displays sometimes. You know, one Cobra Commander for this group or troop display, another for the CGs... A third for whatever.

I will often use them as the same character, but just as that character being in a different uniform.

I display based on characters, so if it's a repaint of a character I like, I'll just add them to the display of that character I already have. I have had a display on my ttbp of certain characters, so I just use whichever version looks most like the ARAH version. Otherwise, I will use repaints for parts and accessories.

Depends on how varied from the original, but more often then not they become a new character.

Tiger Force Duke/Flint are still Duke/Flint but don't get reused in the Joeverse.

But Resolute Duke becomes a new character.

peg warmers. I don't buy the same character with a different paint app unless it's a trooper. Now if the new version is a "better" version than the one I have then THAT one will become the default display figure and the old one is custom fodder

In my main display I have one of each figure that I consider to be the definitive version, and then all the others go towards different displays. So I have an arctic display, a jungle display, a city display, etc and each one of them has a Snake Eyes in it.
