I have always been a GI.Joe guy as far as comics goes. However sometimes I feel Joe comics are kinda looked down apon by other people who read comics.
Do any of you get that feeiling when you go to the comic shop?

Any toy-comics are going to be looked down upon by the majority of comic readers. Anything based on a cartoon, toyline, etc..
G.I.Joe more so then Star Wars, because Star Wars gets bigger names to work on the projects.
What the comic fans don't realize is how many people the toy-comics attract into overall comics. I started with G.I.Joe, then Transformers and then went from there to where at my height I was reading 30-40 comics a month. Even when I stopped collecting Joe toys, I was still reading comics.
But yeah, for the most part the Joe comics haven't had the same story-impact that other comics have.

yes, in my expereience tf and joe was thought of as lesser quality material. i equate it to my experience in mac stores... anything else was just inferior and they had no quams telling you/treating you as such.

Do I live in the twilight zone or are some comic book shop customers a little on the off side, period?

You hit it right on the money, my friend. No love for Joe comics, current or classic.
I'll tell you a toy collector's attitude doesn't help any. I read some complaints on the tank boards about the last G.I. Joe run that make me shake my head. Collectors tend to care less about story and more about static, change-less characters. They want everything to stay the same and zero character development. I loved that with DDP comics, characters died, characters changed, real STORY stuff happened.
I also think Larry Hama was on to some great story and characterization early on in the comics, and got sucked into pumping out new characters via hasbro.
Comic readers hate on G.I. Joe cause they can't get past the toyline. Fans of both like us can see the value of the story past the toys.

Yes it does seem that way. Then i would say..At least it isn't like marvel, killing off characters just to bring them back in a couple of issues.Marvel would abuse the shock of killing people off far worse than DDP EVER did.

You don't live in the twilight zone. The twilight zone lives in comic shops. You're not kidding about comic shop customers, some of them (us???) are WEEEIRD.
This coming from a comic book geek and 30 yr old toy collector!

yep,all the comic shops round here tend to look down on gi joe comics,or they at least dont carry as much as far as back issues...
I don't have anything against Joe or TF comics, but I think it's weird that they are the only comics my roommate buys...

GI.Joe is about the only comics I buy. It just seems more real than super heros.

as far as the marvel run goes, I think it's somewhat looked down upon, to an extent. Not so much that the shop owners don't think twice about charging 7-12 for later issues.

And I'll pay it to. Jerks taking advantage of my impulses :)

You guys gotta try the comic collector software. It organizes everything you have and it even lets you build a wish list of what you want. If there's another member online that has what you are looking for you can buy or trade! Real cheap stuff, even from legit comic shops on there! i think it's comiccollector.com.

If G.I. Joe comics are looked down upon, it's because of the association with the cartoon. Non-readers probably think they're going to get the same stories they saw as kids. I've watched some of episodes online recently. I can't believe, I used to love that show until I discovered the better storytelling of the comics.

Yeah, I would have to agree here, I don't think G.I. Joe is looked at too good by the elitist comic guys.

Yes they are looked down upon . I used to buy them all the time from my local comic shop and i would always get those wierd looks like i was buying something that was not as good a story as those other super hero comics were. They were right because the marvel g.i. Joe comics were better than anything i ever read including punisher which is one of my favorites.

I only ever knew GI Joe through cartoons and toys back in my youth, I'm just reading the comics at the moment... and they are MUCH better (compared with re-watching the cartoons). I didn't like the Joes much in the first place (more of a Cobra guy), but it *does* get annoying having a new Joe introduced every 5 panels... other than that some of the stories are pretty awesome, and some of the characters are a lot more fleshed-out.
The stigma attached to the comics is fairly unfounded, I'd say... but I do think it's there. The local comic store guy looked a bit disappointed when I asked about getting the new IDW stuff set aside for me...

It was GiJOE and Transformers that even got me into comics...

I agree with the member who stated that the comics were looked down upon because they are associated with toys/cartoons. That's the main reason I stay away from most comic adaptations of cartoon series. For example I would rather read the main Teen Titans book, than a comic adaptation of a random Teen Titans episode from cartoon network. Why? It's because I tend to think adaptations like that are usually watered down.
The reason I am glad IDW is going forth with a new direction for G.I. Joe, is because they are no longer bound by Hasbro to write books that will sell toys. I do like the idea of moving stories forward by grounding events in reality, however I did not like how DDP simply killed off some characters without making a lot of their deaths significant. I read in a Marvel interview sometime back, a writer stated that a good death is written well when the character who dies, means more dead than alive. I think the character in question was Karen Page, I could be wrong, but I know for sure if it wasn't her, it was someone in the Daredevil books. In WWIII, Cobra Commander kills Billy, some members of Cobra see the corpse, are shocked for a bit, then simply walk on. What the hell? Lady Jaye's death only served to give Joe Casey a reason to write Flint as a raging lunatic for a few issues. It didn't really make the Red Shadows seem anymore dangerous, they weren't really prominent afterwards. Some of the events, in which rivalries came full circle were not even given emphasis in the last issue of WWIII.
I think if the IDW stories do well and have great substance, they will gain respect amongst collectors, however it will be hard for the comics to shake off the shadow of their toy origins.

I agree with Sarlacc...GI Joe #15 hooked me into comics for life.

I don't feel any snobbery towards G.I.Joe at my comic shop. The owner is very laid back and not your typical snobby comic book geek. Before he started pulling them for me, I might forget and there wouldn't be any Joe comics left a week later, so somebody else around here buys them.
Marvel G.I.Joe #11 got me hooked on comics. Correction: the commercial for Marvel G.I.Joe #11 got me to buy #11. Then I got hooked on comics. I started with just G.I.Joe then Marvel Star Wars, and I would just pick them up in Wal-Mart or convenience stores. Then I discovered the comic book store. A whole store with nothing but comics! As a teenager in the late 80's and early 90's I was spending about $30 a week on comics. That was a lot back then. Mostly all X-Men titles with multiple covers and Image comics. Now the circle is complete. I only buy G.I.Joe comics. I will pick up the occasional Star Wars TPB now and then, and I like the Ultimates as well.
