This is the official thread for the G.I. Joe Zombie Month HISS Tank.com Custom Contest.

What we are looking for...........

Execution of paint apps
Execution of modifying parts
Creativity
Overall presentation

Contest Rules:

*You must be a member in good standing here on the Tank.

*Your custom Zombie must be, at the very least, 80% comprised of 25A parts.

*Your Zombie can be a G.I. Joe or Cobra Team Member.

*Your Zombie must have a custom BITE MARK. It can be painted, cut, sculpted or anyway you come up with to show the bite damage.

*The contest will run through October 31st, giving everyone enough time to get there submission in! Please do not wait for the last day to post your entry. We reserve the right to close the contest early.

*Limit of 2 entries per member. You can spread these out over 2 different threads, or list them all in the same thread. That choice is yours. When you are done posting your entry inside the custom's forum, place the link to your entry inside this thread.

*Each Member must post their own thread(s). For example, "you" and I couldn't post our customs in the same thread, but you can post all 2 of your customs in your own.

*MODS can enter, just can't win.

*We reserve the right to change the rules for any reason at anytime. The contest is for fun and will always be run that way.

The Staff will pick the top 3 Finalists. Then YOU will vote and decide who wins!

Now, on to the fun part - The Prize!

The grand prize winner will receive TBA.
Second Place will receive TBA.
Third Place will receive TBA.

Cool, I am a huge zombie fan. Maybe more then I am a joe fan. I have been thinking of making some zombies but I have never done a custom before. Maybe I will start one.

I like & agree with that intent. Could this rule be reworded to allow for more creativity? For example, a figure using Indy arms might be breaking that rule. A figure using a Tri-Gate torso definitely is.

This contest might be a smidge easier if you have the new DVD pack with the skeleton for bone parts. For those of us who have been unlucky in finding those are really gonna have to work our butts off to make it work. I could really get into this contest but I don't really have enough time after work to make one. But good luck to those who make killer customs. I can't wait to see some of these.

Don't forget Battle Damaged Snake-Eyes for a base, he's already torn up. You can also use a Gung-Ho/Torch/CP W4 Storm Shadow torso and add some torn clothing or damage. And if you want to make bones but don't have the DVD skeleton, you can always use styrene rod.

Backstory:


From The depths of an abandoned Terrordrome deep within the jungles of the Congo they lurk.

Affectionately dubbed the "Romero Trooper" these re-animated corpses of fallen Cobra soldiers were once meant to replenish the ranks of Cobra Infantry. But something went horribly wrong as Doctor Mindbender pushed the limits of the "Kimbundu" virus too far. Cobra forces had no choice but to leave the region, and the "Romero" Trooper was born as the virus spread among those who were the unfortunate left behind.

The "Romero" Trooper has no qualms. It kills without mercy, and fights without fear. Decomposing, destructive with an uncontrollable taste for flesh. B.A.T.S are sent in every-now-and-then to keep the outbreak under quarantine and to feed more unknowing Cobra troopers to the "Romeros" as Doctor Mindbender secretly cultivates the project for his own twisted desires.

Doctor Mindbender: "I've seen the "Romeros" tear the electronic brains from the metallic skulls of our Battle Android Troopers. If it even resembles anything human. The "Romeros" will rip it to shreds.

While I am pointing out your 2 customs, please take no offense. I love your work, as do others. This post is meant as a general comment for this contest, and any potential future ones. Anywho...

Yes, while it was suggested that the fig(s) need to at least have a 25th feel, surely it doesn't mean to completely ignore the 80% rule. Rules are rules, and they're there for a reason. Stepping slightly outside of those rules is one thing, but going around the corner from them is absurd.

If I though I could have gotten away with using 75-100% deadite bodies, I would have too. I mean heck, using those bodies leaves very little to actually customize. Think about it...everyone made their zombies using 25th figs, with minor additions of "other" parts. Now we have 2 last minute entries which utilize 75+% deadite bodies, with a skosh of 25th parts (or basically none for a certain ninja - Katana's don't qualify as 25th parts imo - accessories for, maybe).

Not trying to bust anyone's balls, but we all need to play on the same field, with the same rules. Otherwise, these contests(and quite possibly Hisstank) are going to be a joke. And the more this happens, more people will lose interest in participating. And where's the fun in that?

One way to level the playing field for everyone, is to modify the basic contest parameters. For instance -

Run it for a month like normal. On the last week, everyone has to post their custom(s) on Monday and Tuesday. Wed-Fri is for voting only. Just an idea, but this way no one gets to sit back and scope everyone else's work before they submit anything. It also would allow everyone(Admins too) to view everything one after the other, and not get influenced(possibly) by 1-2 specific threads which just happen to be the "hot topic" for the last 3-5 days.

As for the specifics with the rules -

I'll have to disagree overall with the "feel" thing. You either have an 80% (or whatever) rule, or you don't. Why? Because not everyone will have the same understanding of what a "feel" is, and quite frankly...may not even see the post where it was mentioned. I didn't see it actually, because I read the rules and never looked back.

The point is, whoever sets up these contests needs to be more clear with the specifics, and follow through with them. We can't have "hidden", or "unknown" rules, ideas, or personal "feels" involved. It just doesn't work, if you expect everyone to get a fair shake at anything.

Again, just some ideas.

Either way, I appreciate Hisstank for having these contests to begin with. It gives us all something to focus on, and it's fun too.
