View Full Version : What if? GIJCC FSS starts tomorrow.

Lots of discussion lately about the credit card fraud and many of us were hit by it (myself included). So what if the Club very quickly (maybe not tomorrow but soon - within 30 days) says they have security issue fixed and open up the Figure Subscription Service. Would you use a credit card to sign up?

I have been looking forward to the FSS, I really like all but 1 or 2 of the figures, but I would most likely use a money order or check if the option was there. I want to give the club my support but I don't know that I could bring myself to use my credit card with them already.

I'm completely off the clubs until they sort themselves out or Hasbro takes over, which ever comes first.

I'd get it but not with a credit card. If they had another payment option (maybe sending a bill each month or, better yet, just letting me pay for the whole shebang up front) then I'd do it, or if they instituted Paypal. I won't be paying for anything with the GIJOE or Transformers Club with a credit card any time soon, not 'til all of this has settled down and has been settled for some time.

I'd probably go with a check or a prepaid Visa card.

I'm done with the club until some time passes and the past troubles (more with the customer service than CC info) are forgotten. I can live without the Club figures and just buy customs.

Ditto, if any of them looked like they were worth a damn. I'd rather put the $$ into a 25th Dialtone, and I don't even like the character.

I'll may pay with a check or I may use an extra credit card that I rarely use. Not sure yet.

I'd certainly lean towards "yes", but I'd prefer the ability to use Paypal.

No. I've been waiting for an actual, bottom-line price for the FSS, including S&H, to decide if I would buy it. Now that it's taken so long, and since I'd still like to go to the Con, I don't think I can afford the FSS anyway. I think the FSS should be put on hold until fall. The Club needs to focus 100% on getting its house back in order and putting on the Con.

Like others said another form of payment. Maybe a prepaid credit card with just the enough money on it for the FSS

Sorry, but this is a really bad hypothetical, as there are way too many variables at play right now.

First, the payment system - check is all we have. And I don't see them implementing a system based on checks unless it is an "all-in" up front deal. And I don't think they are leaning towards that, although it is possible.

Second, timing - we haven't had the JoeCon reveal, which they have said is next month. Right now, I can't see them juggling memberships, the FSS which they have previously said will be open for subs for a few weeks, and running into JoeCon registration. Some have commented that this "small" organization can't handle a hack; how could they handle three massive undertakings, one of which is brand new, and another that is under direct scrutiny of Hasbro.

Three, money - This one is likely completely dependent on the memberships. They have spent a lot of money lately gambling first on FSS, and now redoing their website and I hope better security. If they don't get a big late rush of memberships, I don't see the FSS happening until well after JoeCon. Probably won't happen until after anyway.

Last, price - and this one is the kicker. I think this was why they club was hesitant to release the FSS back in December. And waiting has likely driven up the price. They know their sweet spot is around $25 - higher and people will start dropping out. But when you throw in really expensive shipping, that once again will deter folks. On the other hand, as the movie figures seem to be priced at $10 (or there about) for Avengers, the FSS price per fig is looking better. But if their price continues to increase, they know the likelihood of a successful subscription decreases, and having to sell the figures individually increases (something they have made clear they don't want to do).

Lastly, and this is a bit redundant - the intangibles. Time will heal some wounds. But the Club has shown an amazing resiliency in creating new ones! The longer they wait, the better people will feel about the club. But then JoeCon comes, and if reports there are not great, then you start to have real problems. Or if the QC on the membership figures is way off (remember the issues with Dial-tone?). There are a number of issues that could make this worse.

All that is to say, if they started today, no way. I don't think they could do it today. I don't trust them today. I think they would screw up in ways unimaginable today - lose orders, not send subscriptions, charge way too much.

But in a few months, maybe.

Well seeing as how they're not even starting the sub with figures people really want it would be easy enough to wait to see how things go, and maybe jump in later to get the figures, a collector really does want.
In fact, at this point, it would probably make more sense to offer a pre-order service for which figures a collector actually wants and allow us to pass on the ones we don't, especially after this boondoggle.

Nope.

It's too volatile and unknown a situation at this point.

Would have wanted to wait and see how the Club fixs the current mess.

But then they didn't do anything to help out with Footloose for members caught in the middle of the mess, so I'm out and done with the Club.

I think if the club announced they ate kittens for breakfast, puppies for lunch and babies for dinner, then announced they only took gold and silver as payment forms, people would still line up to throw their gold teeth, fillings and wedding bands at them with a note that said "I still believe in you!"

I have two dogs and a cat I would give to them hand over fist for the figures, and more in the neighborhood if they want them too :)

I'm am still upset with the club. Just, yesterday I had to deal with the cable company because we had bounced a payment to them because our auto-payment was set up to come out when we were getting a new credit card. I know that it can happen to anyone but every time I have to deal with another issue it frustrates me and I angrily shake my fist in the air at them.

I had the money set aside, but I recently spent it on items that were missing from my ME collection. Most of which were the more expensive figures. A lull with Hasbro and the club, so I had to get my fix somewhere.

I will need about 2 months notice, and I shouldn't have any problems setting the money aside. However if a bulk of that money is due right around con I may have to make some decisions based on which figures I like better.

I like 11 out of the 12 figures that they have shown and would gladly add them to my collection. I will definitely not be using a credit card with them for anything anytime soon.

Having to go through the extra trouble to find an alternate payment method will just pile on to things that have irritated me with them (whether their fault or not). If their product going forward is not spot on it will be easier for me to pick and choose. I will no longer feel the urge to be a completist and support the club because I do not feel they had our best interests at heart in how they handled the whole situation. They only looked out for themselves.

I love the clubs products. I hate how their management handles customer service. Some of the individuals who work there (and are always fantastic to deal with) appear to be put in between bad management decisions and the customers that get affected by them.

I'm in if the price is good. Shit happens. It was only a matter of time till reality of the internet world hit the land of G.I.Joes and credit cards...Glad its getting resolved and will soon ( I hope) be a thing of the past.

Sure would, i will get one of those reloadable Credit Cards, use it to sign up for the FSS and then use it for any purchases I make with them. Its easy to control the ammount of monery on it an dif it gets compromised again, can easily drop it and get a new one. Its really easy to deal with this once you know there is an issue. I dunno what the issue would be aside from from some seriously upset people that have issues with club operations above and beyond the credit card fiasco.

U signed up for the membership to be able to order the subscription which is a totally seperate thing. The FSS has not started. U need to go and check ur credit cards that u have used with the club and see if there is n e fraudulent charges on there. If u signed up for the club with a credit card, u need to cancel it and get a new one. the club sent out emails if u provided an email address to them. Their system was hacked and anyone that used a credit card with them whether online or over the phone is affected. There is a whole other thread about this that is almost 200 pages long of people discussing it.

Yeah definitely wont happen. If Hasbro revoked FUN license to sell joes, hasbro surely wont pick up the ball and do it. There wouldnt be a club until another company wanted to fork out the $$$ to take over.

Now trying to talk you into it, but probably that one figure will cost as much as the subscription :)

Seeing what Slayer and others have produced recently, I think I'm better off paying 10 bucks for a torso, 5 for a head sculpt, and some paint and glue and making my own.

I had considered the cost of trying to obtain CG on my own, but there are a few factors... such as IF the whole FSS thing happens now. Availability and price will factor in later.

I said I was out, but that's because I don't collect the Modern Era style figures, especially at those price points. If the club ever did a figure subscription with ARAH styled O-ring figures, I would be all over it in a heartbeat.

Since my membership doesn't run out 'till August, I will wait and see. Frankly given how I only care about half of the figures I'm not as overly excited about this as I was when it first hit.

I was a big defender of the FSS when a lot of people were crapping on the figures, but after the credit card issues, I'm not exactly in a hurry to shoot them a money order. Their attitude in relation to current events have pissed me off and a lot of other people.

No - not unless they moved back the date for joining to get Footloose(not going to happen) I had saved for the FSS even though there are only a few I really really wanted. I was looking forward to it even though it would cost a SMALL fortune with the international shipping and stuff. I'm sad - but it's a no. The desire for Quarrel rages though!!!!!!lol

No
I'm waiting
I'm in but with different form of payment
No way. I'm out no matter what.

this poll is not exactly accurate

question was if you were going to use a CC to buy the sub, not whether or not you were going to get the sub,
unless you change the question here the poll needs to be modified.
If that is the true question at hand you need to toss out the different form of payment option.
you also need to toss out the "no matter what" option as it is a repeat of the no option.

I've talked myself out of the FSS. The only figure I want now is Cover Girl... just not worth it at this point.

Same. After all the CC stuff, I thought to myself, do I really want any of these figures? Sure it's nice to have Cover Girl, but do I even care anymore?

I'm taking a good hard look at whether I want to continue spending money on Joes since A) no stores around me ever carry anything, so I have to buy at higher prices at BBTS, where I always get hit with duty on each package by customs, so each Joe ends up costing me closer to $13-15 per figure. B) the movie line is about exciting as the last movie line; basically it sucks. C) This subscription will be a LOT of money for me as a Canadian. Shipping, etc. D) The club pissed me off one too many times. I don't feel like handing over a couple hundred dollars for what amounts to figures that basically look like random customs. I don't feel safe with sending my payments to them, and I don't feel like rewarding their horrendous handling of the whole privacy breach by handing over more money. E) The thrill is gone.
