I just found out this morning that my girlfriend (Dark Songstress here on the Tank) has a very rare, very advanced form of cancer. It's spread all over her and she is in a medically induced coma. They don't know if chemo will work at this point, but they're going on with it.

This. Is. Bullshit.

Dude, that blows. I'm really sorry to hear that man.

A co-worker of mine a couple years ago ended up being diagnized with cancer, and was told he had two days to live. Turns out he made it 10 days before he passed. He was only 26.

So I just got the word in from her brother...

She's comatose. The cancer is lymphatic and spreading rapidly- they've put her into respiratory stasis or whatever to slow it down. On top of it, he's suffering kidney and misc. organ failure.

So the latest news is that she's stable right now, and seems to be responding well to the treatments. Her collapsed lung is reinflating, the fluid around her heart is draining away, and they're able to wean her off of the ventilator for now. She's still in a coma, however, and it'll be about a week before they know if the chemo takes.

I want to thank all of you for your prayers and thoughts. It's helping everyone through this, and I really wish there was more I could do to express that. If anyone wants to leave a message for her or her family, she's on Facebook here (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000192353805) and her brother here. (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000774945457) Tell them you're friends of Austin's.

Sometimes real life intrudes on the Tank in a way that reminds all of us that the people we're arguing with, bantering with, and spending time with online are real people living real lives. The anonymity of the internet often makes us forget that.

Our obsession with our toy hobby also makes us forget that offline we have real families wanting our attention and time. Tragic as this situation is, I hope it makes us all take a break from our toy obsession and helps us spend some time focusing on what's actually important in our lives: our family and friends.

Hope all continues to go well Austin. Use this time to reflect on eternity. Sickness and death is unnatural, that's why it feels so wrong. It's a consequence of living in a broken world. Take some time to think about what you really believe, and focus on what's important. If you ever want to talk, PM me!

Please add me to the list of people that have her (and you) in prayer! The big C unfortunately has a tendency to run in my family, so it is always a risk to the people I love.

Please keep us updated, as you have many fine people on the Tank pulling for you, bro!

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your girlfriend. I have lost a few family members to cancer. This is a difficult time, but this is when family members really pull together.

And now it hits.

Turns out that things aren't quite working out; she's in about as bad condition right now as she was when they inducted her into the hospital, maybe worse. She's weakened from the chemo and fighting an infection- to put it bluntly, it's a day-to-day, touch-and-go thing. The doctors are... not too optimistic about her chances of survival.

The good news is that she's doing a lot better now. She's awake (sometimes) and in high spirits, but she's still got a lot of dead cells in her that are becoming troublesome. In the meantime, I've organized a fundraiser (http://www.hisstank.com/forum/general-discussion/231494-ninja-vs-cancer-charity-raffle.html) to help out her and her family.

Like I said, she's fine for now, but far from the clear. The emotional and spiritual support you guys are giving is really going a long way.
