View Full Version : Croc-Master G.I. Joe Modern ERA Review

I'm not one of those that has fond memories of Croc-Master. I certainly had him, he was one of the last Joes I bought as a kid. I thought he was cool, and liked the figure but I was not clammering for or getting excited over an updated version. But, the first images arrived and I was thinking that he looked like he could be an awesome figure. And he is pretty damn cool. I always thought, back in the day, that any figure that came with an extra element such as an animal makes it that much cooler, and I guess that has carried over for me. Only thing that might have made him cooler would have been to include two crocodiles instead of one!
The sculpt is great, nice detail, the new arms are very nice. He has a good range of movement too, which is a plus for this line. His right boot has a knife sculpted in which makes me happy that they went with that instead of a removable one, which would have made it more bulky. He comes with a whip and a pistol which resembles a .357 Magnum. Or an 88 Magnum (It shoots through Schools!) And of course, the croc. Nice update to it as well, great detail, movable jaw. The leash is on there nice and tight, you'd actually have to remove the upper jaw to get it off.
Overall, I like this figure much more than I thought I would. Again, not someone I would have asked for, but pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoy having it.
FIGURE RATING : 9 out of 10

I can't wait to get this figure. I am actually a fan of this character, he was the first cobra I got as a kid
I like the updated rebreather that fits into his back
Does the gun fit into his leg holster?

I can't wait! Loved this guy as a kid.
Yeah, Croc Master wasn't on my list of must haves. But I'm pretty happy the way his figure turned out. Now, speaking of obscure characters, where's my modern era Crystal Ball?

Croc was one of my favorites, and he's pretty much the highlight of this wave for me.
I'll give it a month or three before he makes his way up here.

Good looking figure. Not one I'm rushing out to get, but if have extra money....
I do love how they included the air tank. That always bugged me as a kid on the original. The air tube went to his shoulder. He got air out of his shoulder???

Good review. Like you, Eopie, I wasn't too excited about this figure being offered. But the figure does look nice, so I'll be glad to have it once it comes in. In fact, there are quite a few characters that I don't really care about, but as long as Hasbro does a nice job on the figure I will appreciate it.

Thanks for the review. The figure is indeed a good update of the original. Not a big fan of Croc Man as I was kind of getting out of Joes at that time, but this review makes me think twice about actually picking him up.

I still think this guy is a complete waste of a slot and new sculpting, i really hated the "gimmick" cobra's starting in '87 (even Zartan's siblings in 86 were pushing it)

Well-executed, but not a first-rate idea for a new addition to the 25th/Modern line. He is one of the few I won't buy, either to open or to keep on the card. I wish they'd done Ripcord, Recondo, or Zap instead. Or any of the other cool figures we don't have yet. In my opinion, which many other people probably don't share, Croc Master was one of the silly characters that marked the beginning of the end the first time around.

I'm loving my Croc Master. I had him back in the day. Not a favorite character but good for unique situations ie, a Joe get captured and tortured by the Croc Master. I still wish they'd release more classic character like Zap, Recondo, Alpine, Footloose, Scifi, Short Fuse etc...

I don't think Croc Master is any sillier than Destro, at least in the looks department. Reptile master might be a bit less useful than arms dealer, but it is Cobra, so it's kind of appropriate.
Great looking figure, too. BTW, is the whip the same one that came with the Indiana Jones figures?

I loved croc master and I was always bummed he didnt come with a weapon. from what It looks like to me, is that he has the new Smith and Wesson .500!! its a .50 calibur magnum....Im pretty stoked because my wife BOUGHT me one for my wedding present in '05 when I got married. Yea she is all that and hot too! lol
The .500 makes PERFECT sense for croc master, that pistol is now undisputedly the most powerful hand weapon ever made, as its muzzel velicity is THREE times that of the old.44 magnum.. It was DESIGNED to be able to take down any sized game animal, (bears especially) with one shot, so it makes sense for him to have that if he had one unruly croc in the bunch and had to put it down fast...I couldent be happier with this fig..
I included a pic of mine to compare...thats what it looks like to me..

I never liked him as a figure, but I'm looking forward to finding him/opening him. I'll be getting 2, 1 to open, 1 to keep carded.
He seems to be pretty iconic, as weird as he is. A lot of people who have stopped by my desk have asked "are they making the gator guy?!?!". None of them are mainstream Joe fanatics like the board members here.
I always thought he was a tad too S&M looking for a kid's toy, even as a kid. I just imagine Croc's got a few weird website memberships, if you ask me.

I was about to ask if that was a modern double action looking revolver ol' CM comes with and not the single action revolver that the CGs and WB come with.
I too am glad to see this gun, only b/c I want one for my hooded CC :).
By the way, your .500 S&W is one BMF! I want to get a SW 629 .44 Mag for my next "toy" :). I am stuck between getting a 5" or a 6" full lug barrel, that or getting a .45 ACP S&W revolver instead (the 625?) so it has the muzzle look of the "Drity Harry" gun. :)
(FYI - "Dirty Harry's" guns WERE S&W model 29 .44 Mags in the movies, except when ever they did a "muzzle view" shot (Harry pointing the gun at the screen) they switched to a model 29 .44 Mag cal gun with a .45 barrel mounted on it (a prop gun only - non-firing). They claim to have done this to make the gun "look even bigger"! Worked for me! I have a .45 Glock and the barrel in that thing is HUGE!! :))

.....and for those that don't know, to REALLY appreciate my pic you first have to understand just how BIG a .45 ACP round is.
Yes, there FIFTEEN of them there (and fifteen in the mag too, plus one more in the chamber - 16 total :)).

Hey guys...got my CM today and I was amazed at the size of that pistole'!! Gotta be a S&W 5-shot Double Action 500 in .50 caliber. Got a buddy who has one...as a 'toy' and it is one bad MF'er! Shoot it at dusk and a 3 foot flame belches out the muzzle!!!! Gotta use two hands!
I love this figure! 10/10 for me...vast improvement over the original IMO.

Graet review as always and I really like this figure, he even has bite marks on his arm! Graet sculpt all around. My only dislike and it is small but his holster is to big for the gun and it doesnt fit all the way in so it looks kind of wierd and seems like it will fall out. Over all though I am pleasantly surprised by him, I never had him as a kid so this time I wasnt going to pass him up!

He was in a couple, pretty sure that was one of the yearbooks (the same yearbook when Serpentor found out Fred was an impostor) but I could be wrong. I don't feel like grabbing my comic boxes right now.

What comic is Croc in? I want to go back and read it.
That was a panel from the 4th yearbook. He's even on the cover of it.
He was in a few more regular issues around #72 to his demise after being tossed in the freighter in issue 98.
He was charged with securing Cobra Island. His two crocs were named "Brunhild" and "Kriemhild" (Norse gods) and he liked to wallow in the mud every afternoon with them... uhh yeah, he's not all there in the sanity department.

Always wanted this figure as a kid, but never got him for some reason. Crocodiles/Aligators were like my favorite animals as a kid (still think they kick ass actually LoL), so the fact I never got this back then is surprising. I bought the Funskool version of it & then got the 2005 version, but thought that one was only so-so. THIS is the Crocmaster design I like best, so I'm totally all over this one when it makes way to the shelves.

Good review! This is a good figure to collect even for nostalgic purposes.
Croc Master is one of those supporting characters who guards the swamps of Cobra Island. Too bad they killed him.
Hasbro came up with a second Croc Master and they killed him too! tsk-tsk-tsk...

Never really could figure out why Cobra needed a guy to wrestle gators. They seemed to get by ok without him. But at the same time, I really dug this guy as a kid, and now having got the 25th version, I think he's awesome. Nice touch with the hinged jaw on the gator!

They used him for security and he used trained crocs as part of that security. He wasn't there to remove the crocs.

QFT. Don't understand my acronyms? Well I don't get a huge majority of the ones used here, so I'm safe.
I'm talking about TNW of CLACTainss and ARCORN and TOOMA and WTFAYTA and my personalized licensese plate. None of which I'm interested in figuring out. WV10 and WV6CP, on top of ISFCICFYSO. Sorry, I diddn't grow up with a palm pilot shoved up my ass. But I have no idea what the hell you're talking about. I love Wv7CM and I'm looking forward to you tolally discounting PXQRZPBM. What?

I think this figure turned out really well; I liked the original a lot, but this is definitely one of the better figures Hasbro has done IMHO. The hose attachment to the backpack as one piece is pretty solid; much easier than that little hose that came with the original. The opening mouth of the crocodile with the pink mouth and white teeth is impressive as well. Overall, I think this is a great figure.
