Who was you're first Joe? Mine was the straight arm Cobra Commander. I was lucky, when I was 5 I found him half buried in the ground at the school playground. Since they didn't show the cartoon in the tiny town I lived in I had no idea who he was. until my cousin told me his name. but he's always been my favorite ever since. So, once again; who was your first Joe and why are they special to you?

Mine was a Straight arm Grunt from the 80's. I was abut 5 or 6 and it when I seen it in K-Mmart and had to have it. It was the first Joe in my neighborhood as well!

Wrong. The cartoon was sold in syndication, so it's absolutely possible that the cartoon did not run in his town if no local affiliate purchased it.

As for my first Joe...a whole bunch of them, actually. Snake-Eyes, Zap, Grunt, Cobra Trooper and Cobra Officer for sure, all at once, all as gifts for my brother and me. There may have been more but I remember those for sure.

The cartoon was nation wide dude!

I grew up out side a small town, isolated by mountains that blocked most broadcasts from a distance. No cable service was available, The local TV station was ABC affiliate (no Joe) and we had a PBS (definitely no Joe) we could watch and that was it - They built a relay tower on the mountain in 85' that brought in NBC CBS and FOX (yo Joe) just in time for the cartoon.

Oh and my first fig was a used helmeted cobra commander bought from a neighbor for a dollar. He had swivel arm so he must have been an 83' logo was full print he had the original gun that stuck to his back, I was so stoked.

Who was "Trasher"?? I remember THRASHER, that came with the dreadnok vehicle. Was "Trasher" an overseas figure or something? As for me I remember the straight arm Hawk, and I also remember using a black permanent marker to turn him into an unmasked snake eyes.

My 1st was Storm Shadow V2. He is special because he single handed destroyed my love for MOTU and introduced me to a whole new universe of awesome figs with more articulation and kick ass vehicles!

My first Joe was Hawk with the MMS. Had no idea how GI Joe was at the time. It was in '82. But I never got into it until four years later in '86.

1982, My Father got me my first G.I. Joe at a toystore in the mall called Circus World. I got the V.A.M.P with Clutch. Then I went home and watched Street Hawk and crashed the vamp through a wall of legos I built up. Was a Friday night and its one of those fond memories.

I then broke my arm 2 months later, sitting in a hospital bed, my mother got me the RAM, Flash, and ROCK & ROLL cause those were items I could play with on the hospital tray.

Good Memories.

That sounds a lot like my story. I was a big MOTU kid, but once I got my first Joe "Charbroil" that was it. I have been hooked since to them.

I think this thread has been done before, but its cool cause I like threads like this.

My first Joe was a straight arm Breaker. Minus his thumbs, com-headset, backpack and helmet, I've still got him. And his swivel-arm replacement, minus all his gear too.

I remember as a kid that with my $5.00 a week allowance, and if I saved at least one days ice cream money from school, on Friday night my mom would take us to the mall where I could get 2 GI Joe figures at $2.50 apiece.

I would first go to Woolworth, then K&K toys, then Roses, then K Mart, then Tons Of Toys (they cost more there), check out who had the newest, best figures or ones I didn't have and I'd get 2 every week.

Birthdays and holidays is when I'd get the vehicles.

Sometimes I'd substitute a playset like the PacRats or a small vehicle like a Fang instead of figures.

My first two (bought at the same time by my Grandma at the San Bernardino Sears) were Straight Arm Snake Eyes & Straight Arm Stalker.

... My third was Grand Slam with the HAL.

Man, back in the day, Sears had a massive amount of toys. I remember peg hooks full of Super Powers figures and GI Joes... all throughout the early half of the 80's.

My first was Grand Slam with the JUMP.

Not long after that I got the Dragonfly w/Wild Bill.

Then for my birthday, my grandparents got me a big TRU bag filled with every figure on the back of the 84 cards.

It all took off form there. With birthday money I went out and got a Sky Hawk, CLAW, FANG, and SNAKE armor.

The following Christmas I had almost all the vehicles from the 83-84 assortment except a Stinger, Skystriker, and Joe Headquarters. My favorite was and still is the WHALE

I was 10 years old in '82 when my Dad took me and my twin brother to a store called Uncle Lees. This hardware store carried a small selection of toys, which my Dad would always let us pick from. On this day, they had GI Joe... I was hooked on site. I picked up a straigh arm Grunt and my brother got Flash. Once we got back to the truck, I had already broken Grunts hand... my dad fixed it and I've enjoyed Joes ever since.

The year was 1982. The older kids down the road had the 12' Joes. I use to go over their house and play with them. The kids were much older than me, so they did not care. One day I saw a commerical for the Joe comic and action figures. That Friday was my parents grocery day and ,of course, allowance day. I went to Alcos next door to Kroger and saw the Joe line. I bought Short-fuse and Rock-n-roll for $2.39 each. and picked up the comic at the magazine rack Issue #1. I read the comic and played with the Joes all that night. That was a good day.

My first Joes were Shipwreck & Quick Kick.
I got both of them as a present from my parents :)
I can't exactly remember why I got them again, maybe for one of the swimming diploma's or moving on to the next class, summer vacation holliday...
Anyway, those were one of the cooler Joes I always had. I especially liked Quick Kick and how the katana sword would fit in his backpack.

I don't have them anymore. I sold them at the beginning of this year along with all the other vintage arah & 2000 series to switch completely to the 25th Anniversary.
I have the 25th Shipwreck and I can't wait to get the 25th Quick Kick!

1984...I was 5 years old. My grandma took me to Target and told me to pick out a toy.

And there he was...Firefly...with his urban camo and mask...and every bit the badass of the figures sitting in front of me. I grabbed him, and my grandma asked me if that was all I wanted...and all I could think about was tearing the package open and getting him home and waging a one man holocaust on my entire toy collection.

Then...the very next day...I guess my grandma relayed to my dad and my grandpa how much I loved that figure...so they showed up to the house with Destro, Snake-Eyes, Storm Shadow, Roadblock, Duke and Mutt & Junkyard. Not to mention...a H.I.S.S., Stinger, Vamp MK II and Water Moccasin w/Copperhead.

It was like my freakin' birthday...but WAAAAY cooler. And my dad, my grandpa AND my grandma played GI Joe with me for a good 4 hours straight. The living room became a battleground the likes of which had never been seen. Destroyed Lego houses and office buildings...blown up Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars. There was no hope for He-Man or the rest of the MOTU who had to work together futiley to prevent the onslaught of the Cobra Joe forces...and once the enemies were defeated, the Cobra's then turned on the Joes and killed them all...becoming the supreme ruler of Bulldog's Toy Universe in 1984.

What an epic battle! I'm exhausted now...I'm gonna' go lay down and watch more football.

Firefly, to this day...is still my sentimental favorite!

It was christmas of 89 I think and I just moved in with my mom. Parents divorced. Long story short, went to make friends and he had joes. Our moms started talking and for christmas I got the Tiger Force figures, vehicles and some kind of base. I still have the figures and one of the 4-wheelers. Good times.

My first Joe was the original Scarlett (with swivel arm). I remember going to TRU with my grandfather and seeing a wall of Joes and being hypnotized by the packaging, they were so different then what I had seen before. So instead of a He-Man figure that day I decided to enter the World of GI Joe.

So I picked out Scarlett and I remember my grandfather saying are you sure you want this one, it's a girl. I said yeah, she has a cool weapon (Plus I always liked the redheads like Teela and Batgirl from the Adam West Batman). And since she was so inexpensive he said I can get something to go along with her so I got the watchtower as well.

I only have a handful of my old joes left and Scarlett is one of those who survived.

My first Joe toy was awesome, it was the Sears Missile Command playset with a (Mickey!) COBRA Commander, Soldier and Officer.

I still have the Mickey in C8, 7.5 shape and the poor Officer and Soldier, too, but they're not in very good condition. I think the base lasted maybe a week as a child. Cardboard+children=total destruction.

I even have a photo of me on that Christmas morning with it. I also got that Dark Tower game that year, if anybody remembers that.

My father served in the Korean War for the Marine Corps. so it was a no brainer that GH was my first. All these years later I am still hooked on G.I. Joe and especialy GH.

My first Joes were straight arm Grunt, Stalker, and a Cobra Officer. I was staying at my Grandma's for a few days, and saw that very first G.I. Joe commercial and I was hooked! When we went into town the next day to get some Groceries etc, we stopped by the Fleet Farm hardware store and she bought me my first Joes for helping carry the bags. (Yes, back in those days we walked a mile or so from her house to mainstreet.)

A couple weeks later I bought Snake Eyes, a Cobra trooper, and a FLAK cannon. When I got my mail away Cobra Commander I thought my little Joe collection was compete. Boy was I wrong! :)

Birthday 1984. Up until then it was He-Man and Hotwheels. I got Mutt and Junkyard, Recondo, Destro, Bludd, Baroness, Duke, Snow Job, and Blowtorch.
Then I took the money I had with my allowance the next week and bought Ripcord, Spirit, Scarlett, Stalker and Cover Girl w/Wolverine.
It took me a little longer, but by Christmas I had Roadblock, Firefly, Stormy and Scrap Iron and Cutter. From there on out it was all downhill.

My first was Ripcord and my brother got Firefly. I don't remember how old we were, pretty young.
My poor Ripcord died later when my cousin was playing with him in the back seat of the car, tossing him up in the air (paratrooper and all) and poof! He got sucked out the less than 2 inch crack in the rear window. :(
I was sad but I'm better now.. *sniffle*
