Much like most of the folks on this site, I grew up on G.I. Joe. They ended up being a huge part of my childhood and went practically everywhere I went. I have many fond memories of growing up and quite a few of them had G.I. Joe. So when I found a 25th Single card Destro and Snow Job at a local Target in January, nostalgia flooded my memory and I instantly dug out all my old toys.

I am one of those 30 year old guys who just got back into Joes and started collecting. I collect because of the memories and for future memories with my kids. I know that a small minority on the Tank think of guys like me “bandwagon fans” but I don’t mind. Prior to joining the Tank, I’ve only been on a forum once and I hardly ever posted. I thought I’d give this place a chance and see if there was anyone else who was in the same boat as me.

My brief time on the Tank has been an extremely positive experience overall. I found the whole gambit of Joe Collectors…purists, compltists, newbies, seasoned collectors, guys who do this for a living, guys (and gals) who pick one up every now and then for fun and anyone and everyone in between! I think one of the things I love about this place is that there are a vast array of collectors and fans. Everyone brings a very unique perspective to the table. I think it is the best source of Joe news and sightings. I’ve only had positive experiences in trading with other members and met some pretty remarkable people during my time here (i.e. Viper 48, rob0123, Sgt. Mutt, Kalibus…the list goes on). Heck, we even started a fantasy football league with some of the guys here!

I love the Tank…good people, great info and an excellent place for trading. However, I’ve noticed that there is a certain amount of negativity flowing around here as of late. Maybe it has been this way and I’m just now noticing but I’ve seen a steady increase of name calling, accusations and bashing. Now I’m all for the venting of frustration (appropriately) but at the end of the day, they are just toys….Toys to me that are not worth selling our integrity for or getting all worked up about (i.e. repaints…they’re going to happen….let’s move on). Instead of slinging accusation or demanding pics for everything, let’s give our fellow Tankers the benefit of the doubt and a chance to respond. Instead of focusing on Hasbro, let’s focus on all of the AMAZING talent and skill we are seeing in customs that Tankers are cranking out!

Everyone is entitled to there opinion (again, one of the reasons I like the Tank) but perhaps it’s time we focus on why we are on the Tank and what makes Joe collecting so great. There are so many great things about this hobby and this site in particular; it would be a shame not to showcase them.

So thanks to everyone for making this a great site...

p.s. Mods...you guys are doing a great job for thankless work...we all appreciate it. Shogi, the reviews are great.

'In Real Life'

I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt by taking him off my ignore list now that he's back from the realm of the banned.

hey man great post.
good to see someone point out that they're "just toys" and do it in a postive way.

nine times out of ten i can't point that out without it being served up with sarcasm a side of instigation
So yeah, anyways, great post.

Very well said Outbackk! I havent been here on the Tank long myself, but everyone I have messaged and whatnot have been great people! Its nice to have all these people with similar interest and love for a 4 inch piece of plastic! As soon as I start reading threads that are heading towards the negative, I back out and find something else to read. sometimes they are funny but like Outbackk said they are toys and for the most part a reconnection to our childhood. Lets enjoy these little pieces of plastic Crack that hasbro has given us again!

The movie is going to suck. :D

That being said, I really do agree Outback, the 'Tank is a fantastic place to hang out and there are a ton of really cool dudes around.

What we're seeing isn't so much from negativity itself, but the hostility behind it, which I think is what you were getting at. I trash the movie constantly, but usually with good humor. Others hate the choices made by Hasbro, but can joke about it. The problems only arise when it's taken too seriously and people stop having fun.

So thanks for the uplifting words, that 'Tank benefits greatly from guys like you!

And Mods, not to be a kiss-ass or anything, but you guys really do a pretty stellar job of maintaining the place.

Nice post Outbakk. Negativity here isn't anything new (most of us are probably guilty of getting carried away from time-to-time), but it does seem lately there have been a flood of threads about 'things you hate', 'who you hate', etc. After reading 15+ pages of 'hate' -- my fault, I could have just stopped reading, but I didn't -- I felt like I really didn't want to be a part of this site anymore, but there is a lot of good threads and fun stuff going on, so I'm "trying" to just stay away from certain threads and posters because I'm here to enjoy G.I.joe in all it's incarnations and have a good time. + there are some awesome customizers on here :) and missing out on what they can do would be a shame.

Sigh... nothing like a big TANK group hug thread! This thread really helps take the focus off all the anticipitory griping about releases thats been goin on. Who has looked at the Custom HISS contest? Holy Schnikes! There is an overload of talent on this site!!

Many pats on the backs to all the customizers on here! I find my self hanging out in the customizing section looking at peoples customs and being blown away at what you guys can do, and also stayin away from the bad juju threads lol.

The negativity was one of the first things I noticed about this site. And it was a big turn-off.

^^^^

Exactly what he said.

We finally got Joes on the pegs and shelves and plenty more Joes on the way. Why be negative??? Life's too short to spend pissed off or guilty... That's not living, that's just waiting to die...

Let's hear it for positivity!!!
