View Full Version : If a Renegades follow-up is indeed in the works, how would you like it to be.

If the news about the renegades follow up is true, then how would you like it to be?

I would personally like it if:

1. Roadblock has a more crucial role, and gets a goatee like in the movie.

2. Change the costumes. Make them more detailed and military, but still maintain the style of the late Clement Suave.

3. Cobra is a full out terrorist organization. I also want to know the fate of destro, baroness, mind bender, firefly, zartan, storm shadow.

Thoughts? Oh and if you want to, you can follow me on twitter @toycollector962

I don't want them to be 'renegades'...I want them to be 'real American heroes'.

Hmmm...Nothing like the movie(s). I'd like to see the show done in episode arcs. Have the team formed around the former Renegades, and have the squads made from the roster depending on the theatre, and the specialties required.

Cobra would be outed, but even deadlier now that they've moved underground. They'd still have their fronts, but now those fronts can't be tied to Cobra. It'd keep them a bit on their heels and operating in the shadows, but it'd also make them desperate. That would make them more dangerous.

When it comes to picking the squads I'd like to get a chance to see other Joes shine. Also, some episodes without Snake Eyes every now and then. I'd wouldn't mind seeing a Flint led team, with LJ as his second in command. Jmo, of course.

I just want less cartoony lookin' animation and something more realistic and preportionate. Keep that dexters lab lookin stuff to the sille cartoons. And lets slim roadblock up and loose the 15th century steampunk mutton chops please?

Renegades Season 1 concluded with so many opportunities for success.

I loved the animation, especially the way vehicles turned out.

Season 2 should start out with Breaker debriefing the Renegades, while Hawk, Flint and Duke formulate the plan to create the Real American Heroes.

And go from there.

I'd like the next series to lean towards Resolute more than Renegades. We won't get a PG-13 cartoon, but at least one that is a bit more serious. The tone of Young Justice, for example, would fit well with GI Joe.

I just want the show to continue. I hate that they have canceled the Renegades storyline. I am tired of the constant reboots. Cobra as a global company fits great. Why not just continue what you started? UGHHHHHHH...

Yup
Maybe even release the toy line along with the cartoon this time?

...aren't cartoons supposed to look animated? They are cartoons, not live action shows after all.

Bam! This right here^ somebody confused ELITE TEAM with outlaw renegades and it needs to be corrected. I’d like to see Resolute continued soon too.

Even though it's looking pretty bad at this point, I really hope that this show continues in some form or another. It would be stupid if they canned it just so they could make a new cartoon that's more like Retaliation, particularly since Retaliation and Renegades had pretty similar premises anyway (Joes on the run). This show deserved multiple seasons, even though in all likeliness it's been canned for good.

Maybe if they ever bring the show back they'll update the art style slightly (in particular I think they'd probably want to give Roadblock a goatee like he has in the new movie), and maybe change up the formula a little. If they have to drop the "Joes on the run" formula for something a little more traditional I could live with it, but above all else I think it's important that this version of GI Joe continues. If they just keep rebooting, it will weaken the franchise to the point where we may never see a show that lasts more than one season, if that.

Renegades was a refreshingly mature take on the mythology, and from what I understand it was doing well in ratings. Hasbro botched up by not having the toys out while new episodes were still coming out. I think it would be terrible if the show has been canceled just because Hasbro is worried that it won't sell enough toys, and I really hope that someone at Hasbro wisens up and gives it another chance, even if it's kind of late for the show to come out of "extended hiatus."

At any rate, maybe we should take it as a good thing that they at least wrote "Season 1" on the box for the DVD, instead of "The Complete Series." They might be leaving the door open for another season in this way, even if it's only by a smidgeon. Despite my distaste for the fact that it's not getting a full Blu-Ray boxed set release like Transformers Prime did, I'll still probably buy the DVD just to show my support for the franchise and hopefully help tell Hasbro that this show still has fans.

I guess I'm just old fashioned but I hated Renegades. I have accepted the fact that there will never be another ARAH. They should just continue with Resolute instead. Resolute would probably relate more to movies than Renegades.

I think what the poster implied is that not every cartoon has to come from the Bruce Timm look of animation.

And that the animation should look more realistic is meant by having the characters look more human like the Sunbow series where not everyone has flat noses.

I don't want them to be 'renegades'...I want them to be 'real American heroes'.

I think that would be the general progression of the storyline - the end of "Renegades" kind of wrapped that part up. Cobra has been exposed, and the "Renegades" were cleared of their "crimes".

I liked the animation style, so I'd want it to be the same or similar to the style Renegades had. I'd also like them to retain the VA's as well.

If they return this series, they need to get rid the A-Team, Simga Six, Batman Beyond elements. Them Bio-Vipers or rather Jello-Vipers were awful.

I agree. They missed the perfect opportunity to bring in the Fatal Fluffies.

I loved Renegades, but I am not clamoring for a sequel. I appreciated that it had an ending (a good one!), and brought the characters more-or-less into a more traditional GI Joe setup. I don't see how "Renegades" can continue, unless they become Renegades again, which would be tricky to do right. And as for simply seeing what happens next, with just missions or whatever, I don't see the point since it was the premise of Renegades that was the hook. Now it would just be "regular" GI Joe. It would be cool to see the characters again, but I really feel a new series needs a strong new "hook" to make it different than what has come before.

That said, I trust the creators behind Renegades and feel that they "get" GI Joe, while still wanting to take it in new directions. I would be happy to check out anything they decide to make, and trust I would love it, too! I hope the same creative team will be back if there is a sequel series of some kind.

Ideally, the original show would have been guaranteed a longer lifespan and there would have been time to flesh the series out more before resolving the Renegades storyline. But since that didn't happen... well, I just hope it is in good hands and will be a worthy follow-up.
