It's rare that I profile a vehicle as they are no longer a major part of my collection. But, of the few vehicles that do make the cut, there is usually a nostalgic reason for their appearance in my collection. The Havoc is such a vehicle. While it's ludicrous at best in terms of realism, it was a toy that I greatly enjoyed as a kid. So, it remains part of my collection today while other, better vehicles do not interest me at all.

I didn't like driving on the belly thing. Or the orange parts or Cross Country the HAVOC at all back when it came out.
It popularized the trend where guns and missiles were just stuck on vehicles without thought to logic or realism, plus the obligatory detachable mini-vehicle feature. The whole land cruiser thing started with the HAVOC, then came the Mean Dog, the Rolling Thunder, the Raider and arguably various others...the HAVOC became outclassed by its brood, but they still repainted it as part of Sky Patrol.
Nostalgia made me warm up to it, though.

I never liked the HAVOC. Didn't like the look of it. Didn't like the look of the driver. Even looking back on it nowadays, still don't like it.

Great review!
I like the HAVOC quite a bit. I envision it as more of a long range artillery piece. They often don't have much armour anyway, which might explain the big glass (presumably bulletproof however!) windshield. The fan car would be used for recon/indirect fire spotting for the cannons and third-party targeting for the missiles.

Well knowing more about military vehicles than i used to when this came out back in the 80's ,the design is so impractical and insane from a military point of view ,having the driver exposed so high without no armour protection is pure suicide he would be dead within seconds a sitting target if their ever was one ,and the big glass canopy exposed to hostile fire in the front of the vehicle hate to be the poor chap who gets it riding there ,i could never understand why are they lying down on thier "gut" ?
It looks interesting and futuristic ,but purely impractical .
