Cobra Commander in Suit, never had the priveledge of going to one of those Conventions in San Diego or even visiting California at that. I figure this is as close as i will get to seeing what a convention out there might look like.

i've got three 12" joes from 1964 mib. apparently they're worth quite a few bucks.
i think they're kinda lame, couple years before my time, but man,old dudes eyes just light up when i show 'em.

not so much holy or grail'ish, but i've got a vintage road pig and color changing snake eyes...i'd love to get all the 'noks on cards.
and while people here have better stuff, the more i hear that folks can't find the rhino dvd's, I'm kinda glad i have them all

Grunt

I have one more but I can't remember which card. They've been stored away for quite some time now.

All in fantastic condition MOC.

The goal is to get all of the original line up MOC.

Preferabley the 9 backs, but I don't mind having the 11 backs as well.

I had a Terror Drome, but my dad threw it out after I graduated from college.

Luckily he didn't go nuts and throw out anything else from my Joe collection.

He told me that he was sorry, but the thing was taking up too much room in the basement and he couldn't find a box for it.

Hard to say. I have a straight arm Cobra Commander which, as I recall, I received right before they switched to the swivel arms, so I always kept that one aside thinking it must be rare. I've never checked the price (probably worthless)... but he hangs out with my early-bird Luke (also a mail-away who changed before he got to the card).

To be honest, though, my strongest memory of a quest is a straight arm Scarlett. You have no idea how hard it is to hunt and hunt and hunt as a kid (ok, maybe you do), back then cases were like 36 figures or something outrageous, toy store employees would bring out cases, cut them open and just toss them on the floor for us to dig through. That Scarlett took forever to find and when I did... I think I literally wobbled.

Digging through deep pegs, listening to my aunt try to tell me they were all the same in the front, why do I have to dig through them all... and then in the second to last row, way in the back... Scarlett!

It was the only one at a Kay-Bee (or was it King Norman's then?) and I refused to leave the store without it. My aunt thought I was crazy until my mom pointed out it was the only one I didn't have and I dragged her to so many stores looking for it, she'd refuse to leave the store without it, too, if only to get some peace!

Haha. Good memories.

I have a straight arm moc Scarlet. But my two favorite things is my misb 1984 Cobra Water Moccasin (thanks to Fire_Fly) and my mib 1984 Rattler, which is near flawless even if it isn't sealed. Ninju Ku, I havent seen Bravestar in soooo long. Thanks for using that avatar :)

1983 Duke. Much like the Jones' in the 'Last Crusade" I spent a looong time trying to find me an 83' Duke. Never had one as a kid and now he holds a place of prestige in my collection. If I were only to keep one Joe, it owuld be my mint 100% 1983 Duke.

wildfire083
10-03-2008, 04:39 AM
I have a few I suppose. The OG Duke v1 I have is cool, but I never owned him as a child and currently have NO idea where he is. As far as older figs, the Desert Storm Duke was always my fav. 25th figs are really where it's at now though. A close second is my wave 9 Gen. Hawk I modded so he no longer looks like he's wearing a neck pillow, which really enhances the coolness of an already cool figure. My number 1 most prized piece at the moment is an LBC however of my favorite character, Duke of course!! It's the wave 4 comic pack Duke with Night Assault Cobra trooper webgear, his bandoleer over that, wave 2 Hawk backpack and the M16/M203 combo. The battle ready Duke I always wanted, who also fits in with the look of the early team.

This coming from a guy who has a Black headed Destro and HAD a yellow Stalker too...Simple things for a simple man I suppose.

my holy grail is my terror drome, bland and out of scale as it is, its home to my cobra legions plus the firebat is sweet and avac... well hes just bad ass. after that, my rattlers a favorite and then probably my stun pulls into 3rd. character wise my snake eyes with timber is my gem, i have more valuable figs maybe but hes the best now if i can only get a v1 storm shadow with decent paint, tight joints and all his shit....sigh.

These are some very impressive "holy grails", but mine is very simple and common. A complete 1988 Ver 2 Storm Shadow. My pride and joy as a kid and the only sentimental thing I own. I wouldn't give it up for anything, reasons being my own. I now have the 25th Ver 2 next to it sporting the same compound bow (which I prefer anyway) and claw, looks good!

The kicker is that I bought the MOC Breaker two years ago for $5 from some local dollar store.

Geeez, you mean I have to choose...

Definitely my favorites from back in the day were my CC and G1 Snake Eyes. I played the shit out of these guys. Set them up in dioramas, etc. My large vintage collection is in storage right now, but early in the year I pulled out the box that has the bulk of my figs in only to find old CC is pretty yellow/green and Snake Eyes' rubber band/O ring has evaperated. So a little sad, but thats nature for you. I can fix up SE and get another CC, but the old yellow one will have a place of honor next my original yellow Stormtrooper.

Other than that, just fond memories of getting my first Skystriker or Moray from my Grandma/Godmother. The Joe APC that I got out on a trip to Michigan, and the Stinger jeep I got in Canada with the packaging in French. The Terrordrome I bought with my own money, and finally the Rattler that I "ordered" from my local Ben Franklin store so I could have one as soon as it came out.

All the 25th stuff is cool, but doesn't hold a candle the special feelings I have for those original Joes (82 - 85).

I likes my Funskool Tripwire better than pretty much every other Joe figure I own

I've heard of several people who are fond of that figure. Is he difficult to obtain? I'd like to get one for myself.

He's not very difficult or expensive you can get him for $4 bucks here GI JOE Figures from Funskool - India (http://smalljoes.com/gi-joe-gijoe-funskool-figures.shtml)

I like him because he's odd looking and has the most painted details of any Tripwire mold

you got the figs for missile hq? I was thinking of recreating one either by scanning photos and printing on foamboard, or making one from scrap parts.

Whatever vintage items I have are on the other side of the country so PDD, Doc and Blue Suit Cobra Commander (http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-joe-general-discussion/21431-finally-opened-sdcc-blue-suit.html) are it. I do love my SNAKE armor though. Never had it when I was a kid.

All my 80s stuff has massive play wear....so today, my holy grails are: MOMC 25th Anniversary Yellow Stalker and MOMC 25th Anniversary "distress flag" Jetpack Duke. I really dig these unintentional "variants" / errors / or whatever the heck they are....

"Grail Worthy" is in the eye of the beholder. I have plenty of valuable collectibles, but to me, my mint 1984 Duke is the most precious Joe I own.

This is a nice score though. Very nice.

My Holy Grail... should be my almost complete 1982 (9 & 11-back mix) AFA MOC collection... just missing '82 Scarlett. Oh... and my AFA 85 Zartan!!

...But my even bigger winner is my Rocky Balboa 2-UP prototype bust used to create the unproduced rocky figure in 1987. It's one-of-a-kind!
