View Full Version : Sticky MISB Figure Syndrome...Help?!

Ok, here's the situation:

I buy a lot of MISB 80s figures to open and display (i.e. play with). The idea of buying the figs MISB is to get a clean and complete essentially new figure to open. Up until now, I've had no problems.

Recently, two of my figures arrived in sealed packages, but both were covered in some stick tacky residue when I opened them. These figures came from different sellers in different countries, one was a Crystar figure and one was a Voltron Robeast Scorpius figure, so they're not even from the same line.

I let both figures soak in soapy water overnight, but the problem was not fixed. I am afraid to use a product like Goo Gone because I fear it will wear off the paint on these figures. Does anyone have any thoughts or experience in this matter?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Not trying to be snarky, but I did answer your question in my original post. "The idea of buying the figs MISB is to get a clean and complete essentially new figure to open." Which is a nice way of saying I don't want a Crystar figure that some kid stuck up his butt in the bathtub 20 years ago. As for paying too much, I don't consider the mark up on price too high considering that someone put the effort in to save a sealed figure for 25 years so that I could open it and relive my childhood.

ok guy, you can always buy loose complete figures without the fear of butt residue on them but to each is own. I think im going to get my dads babe ruthe card and put it in my bike spokes now. lol

What I do with my money is really my business. If I want to put figures in a blender, it's my perogative. Just trying to unsticky my figs if it's all the same to you.

maybe someone at the factory put them in their butt 25 years ago and now there is stick butt residue on them

Great, then I can just use the same solvent I use on your mom's anal beads to clean them up. Please stop derailing my thread...

I haven't tried or actually considered rubbing alcohol. Not a bad idea. I'm still afraid that it might ruin the paint, but seeing as how there might be no saving the figures anyway, if no one has a better idea, I will try the Goo Gone tonight, if that doesn't work I will try the rubbing alcohol. If that doesn't work, it's time to make custom figures of these characters.

AHA! I just googled fast orange and this seems like it might be the answer. Now I just have to find some. Thanks!

dont use goo be gone or oops or any such thing first, rubbin alc shouldnt bother the paint, not like a solvent would! try other approaches, did you scrub it wit' a rag an hot soapy water, i would use a rag an pressure to try to rub it off like some adheisive from a sticker

I tried the rag and water...I think rubbing alcohol is the next step, if that fails, then it's fast orange time. Thanks again.

I wonder how many of my toys have been up people's butts? Btw Darklon, I think these sticky toys are a sign from above that what you're doing to these vintage figures is wroooooong!

Man you guys should start a comedy team. This thread is hillarious! :)

By the way, Unclassified had basically the same recommendations as I was thinking of. Can't think of anything else that might work. Good luck.
