View Full Version : Waist / Crotch Piece Modification...?

I can't remember seeing anything about this but has anyone successfully managed to mod the waist piece on the older 25th anniversary figures so they match those that can sit properly? I'm thinking of the Cobra Legions Stinger Driver as a prime candidate for this operation. Does anyone have any tips or success stories to share? I have a couple of extras lying around so I suppose I can try this on my own but I thought I'd turn here for any support. :)
Thanks in advance!

Was my thread title and description not obvious enough...? :) Kidding, of course!
Yes, I am referring to the part of the waist piece that is wider (diaper like) on some figures and prevents their legs from sitting parallel on a seat and thus preventing said figures from fitting in vehicles.
The example I used was how this affects the Stinger Driver from sitting properly in the VAMP. I suppose I could just file down the diaper so the legs work right but I was hoping someone else might have some experience in this specific mod.

yeah the title hit me better after i posted sorry to lazy to edit, but you're gonna have to paint it afterwards though!, but dremel it down i had to dremel the inner thighs of firefly's legs to fit comic storm shadows crotch, an dremeled down the crotch aswell, thats when it hit me that you could dremel down the diaper on some, but like i said you would have to paint it afterwards!!

Same here. I keep staring at my extra figures wondering if it's possible. I'm partly worried about the finished product looking like I modded it. I particularly want to do this on my cobra troopers. I know a lot of people invested a ton of cash on army building the blue shirts.
The image here shows you how much material you would have to remove. Man, it's times like these you wish Hasbro would produce fixed pieces for all your old figures. Fixed crotches for Duke and Cobra Troopers, Fixed Duke Arms, Fixed gloved hands, etc. Not going to happen, but it would be cool.
Anywho.

yeah i see no other way to have a nice final product other then havin to paint it afterwards, that blue might be paint so if it is then the blue will be removed, if the blue is the color of the plastic, you still will notice the mod cus it would be dull in that area! i think if you dont plan on paintin the dude afterwards, then jus let it be, !!serious cus imo wit out paint its gonna look like poop!

Just use an exacto knife and shave off the plastic. Take off a small layer at a time until you get the results you like. Dont use a dremel unless you are planning on painting the figure.
the color difference for the trooper is not that noticeable especially cuse its on the inside of the crotch. As long as you take off small layers in smooth strokes and you dont make it look all jagged it will look good. I'll post some pics when i get a chance. The stinger driver im not too sure since i have not done that operation on him but it should be the same.

The exacto knife method works well.
Here are some shots of my first try on Duke.
I did not have to repaint him at all. He turned out better than the jet pack Duke with the Hasbro fixed joints. :)
I just removed the legs and sliced nice smooth, thin slices off. Little by little. The first side took a while to get right but after that practice the other side took only a minute or two.
Sorry about the picture quality.. I am at work and using my phone to take the pics. :)
