View Full Version : Pyro's 25th Customs: Dr. Mindbender

As those of you who follow my customs know, I don't care much for the barechested costumes sported by some of the classic figures. So when it came to making my own Dr. Mindbender to go with my 25ths, I went with the labcoat version. IMO, this guy looks more like a bad-ass than the original.
Recipe:
Head: VvV Dr. Mindbender
Torso: Snow Job
Arms: CP Ace
Hands: Scarface Cobra Officer
Legs: W9 Hawk
Guns: Random Desert Eagles (?) from other 25th figures
I dremeled off Snow Job's pouches and harness. I sculpted the small pocket. The cobra symbol is hand painted. The buckle is a piece of styrene. I even touched up the paint job on the head since the folks at the factory seemed to be having trouble with getting ALL the details.

I definitely prefer this version to the "MIng the merciless" one. He really looks like an evil doctor. Very cool!

The guns are supposed to be 1911 .45s, not Desert Eagles :)
That is a really great job. How long did it take to make?

Cool, thanks. I'm not a gun guy so to me all those beefy guns look like DE's to me. :D

The dremeling took the longest, but that probably was only about an hour or so. It's REALLY an easy custom to make as long as you have the parts and are patient with the dremel.

Looks great. I gather you could use the same recipe with a different head for Dr. Venom as well.

I like it.. that is what I want him to look like when hasbro gets around to making one. What I want to know though.. where did you get the letter rubs for the stand? Would like to make stands for all those vehicle drivers that didn't get one.

They aren't letter rubs. I reverse printed the black on white vinyl with a Roland 72" sign printer. As I understand, some people use Avery label stock and an inkjet to do similar. I know my printer is overkill for such a small label, but I print on white vinyl because it is thin, malleable and water cannot damage it. This allows for a real tight fit. I just printed about two dozen different names that I know I have worked on and will be working on.

The only thing that would make this version of Mindbender better is if he came with a doctor's bag with tourture stuff in it - like the dentist from Running Man.

Would a briefcase count? I've been considering getting one of those briefcase sets from Marauder.

that would work. as long as there is a pair of pliers or some kind of tool he can use to torture others...

steve - i respect your opinion but i am real tired of the nipple showing, no shirt wearing evil doctor...an evil doctor should still look like a doctor not an s & m freak....
This looks good, but i prefer the original costume of Dr Mindbender.

I really like this Mindbender. The shirtless, caped version is just too much. You know your look isn't working when you stand out in a group that contains a dude wearing a metal face mask with a disco shirt that opens to the navel and twin adult males in skin-tight matching red and blue circus costumes. I don't even know where to begin describing the Commander's duds, but they all seem like the picture of restraint compared to Mindbender.
Your custom rocks.

Nice reply...Perhaps Cobra needs to bring in a wardrobe person :) Maybe they need those guys from "Queer Eye"...where in Brooklyn are you? I grew up not far from PS 206.

This Mindbender is actually quite scary, as opposed to subpar bdsm dude from the 80's, right?

Imagine being a Joe - even Snake Eyes - locked in a cell in a TerrorDrome in some small wartorn third world country and in walks this Dr. Mindbender with his briefcase, some power tools, a dentists drill, and some drugs....You'd be brainwashed REAL fast...you might even pee your pants.
