SDCC 2012 Shockwave Destro Information

Just a few quick updates on the SDCC 2012 Shockwave Destro Cobra B.A.T. exclusive. The box will be similar to last years Starscream Skystriker Comic Book Box. The Shockwave Tank will have the same styled old school comic book art box with Destro in the tank and a Army Of B.A.T.S surrounding them.

The back story...... Shockwave is looking to purchase the Alt mode of the new Retaliation H.I.S.S. Tank. They meet up and Shockwave pays Destro for the design.... he scans the prints and pays Destro off, then takes the alt mode of the H.I.S.S.!

I think BAT is a great idea, army of Robot soldiers, hell we have had robots doing everything from manufacturing to war drones, of course controlled by human beings just as the BATS were. As for Cobra La, that was the worst thing ever.

Crossbreeding StarWars/Trans would be ok, but not Joes. I thought Aliens/Pred was a hit.

They may be doing these to see how much we all clamor after them. How frikin awesome would be to go buy an optimus Prime figure that came with a Gi Joe figure like Hawk? Or Shockwave and destro or star scream and Cobra Commander? Before somone bicthes about of course they won't be scale, but having the relationship between the two, a huge cartoon and then a HUGE movie of the 2 together...wow...kids minds would be blown...I got Optimus prime and HAWK all at once and they all make sense! too coooool!

I'm genuinely surprised that Hasbro didn't try to get Joe to ride Transformer's coat-tails when the movies were at the height of their popularity. They had transformers based on Star Wars and Marvel characters, why not a Rattler that turned into CC, a Hiss that turned into Destro, or a motorcycle that turned into SE?

Going after two markets with one product seems like a no-brainer to me.

For that matter, they could easily cross the brands with G1 models. I think it's the Revenge of Cobra mini-series where Roadblock hops onto a convoy hijacked back Cobra and meets the country girl owner of the rigs. Each of the semi-trucks use the Optimus Prime G1 model.

Produce it as a transforming 1/18th Prime, make two sticker sheets so it could be Prime or the convoy truck, throw in the country girl driver for fun, and then a couple of swappable plug-in pieces so that the back trailer could easily haul cargo empty or have the electronic add-ons Prime came with (the mini 6-wheel roller which should be able to fit 1/18th figures, a few computer stations, etc.).

It would be a little bit of an effort, but you have two built in fanbases that would snap that thing up. It'll easily out size the Masterpiece Prime and you know the Japanese would love to get an even bigger version of him.

Why would a Con pay for a design, when it could just copy and duplicate it? Transformers never had any monetary means, and just scanned vehicles and became that item closest to their original design.

Let's assume the Red Jinx, the one based on the classic design, ends up costing $35 on Ebay ($25 would actually be more realistic if you are a good bidder). That means you have five whole months to work the extra 6 hours (at Federal minimum wage) at whatever job will put up with you and pay for the cost.

cost is not the point. at least not for me, I can easily afford a 100 dollar Jinx if I wanted to but I wont.
point is it should not be that much in the first place and should be widely available.
the secondary market is irrelevant and so is the "time and effort" spent by con goers to get these.
just because some people have fallen for the brainwashing that its ok for these to be exclusives does not mean i will.

I have no interest in the shockwave but I do "want" a white Jinx and if I can get one a red one as well. but I won't overpay for one. I will pay a reasonable price. six months later if need be.

I already wanted the Shockwave HISS, but now I have to get it. The Soundwave and tapes are awesome, and I won't mind having another suitcase of cash. The Constructicon BAT is kinda odd, bit it's a nice Devastator homage.

I'm also surprised they haven't done TF/Joe crossover figures like they have for Star Wars and Marvel, but making them transform to Joe characters would have been a huge turn off for me. I'd rather they be TF characters that transformed into Joe or Cobra vehicles.

I would love to see them do a couple Transformers like this in Joe scale, but I'm sure Hasbro views that as too big of a risk even with two groups of fans to market it to. I can still hope though.
