I took Lantern Lad up on his suggestion...
Things everyone thinks you should hate but you don't!
GI Joe: I get a lot of flak for liking this.
Battlefield Earth: I LOVED that movie, but I think I'm the only one.
Halo-dogs: My own invention I've yet to convince others to eat... it's a hot dog, diced green chilies and cream cheese all wrapped in a flour tortilla and baked til golden brown. Yum!
Hot Rod: That movie was funny as hell. No one else I know liked it.

I could write all night about this. I tend to like people and things that other people disdain. I sometimes think I am the most uncool person in the world based on my preferences.

The Phantom Menace. Sorry, but it wasn't a bad movie by any means and wasn't universally panned until a few months AFTER release. I understand if you don't like it, but there's no way this is the worst movie ever made unless your a die hard Star Wars fan who was disappointed the movie didn't live up to the stories you made with your Kenner action figures. I liked it and have found that (like the new Clone Wars) it's a great way to introduce your children to the world of Star Wars.

Star Wars Toys (some of them)
Target (everyone is always berating them on here)
Famous People;
Kathy Griffin
Dane Cook (I like his stand up not his movies)
Ellen Degeneres
Harry Potter (I'll admit the last one sucked)
Certain current pop music, can't really give that many examples.
80's cartoons, I think the Transformers was and is now still cool.
That's about it, I detest most things so I'm in agreement on most bashing sites.

Here we go. What is probably part one of my list of things that makes me the most uncool person in the world:
Lifetime movies (LMN is always on in my apartment-some of them are works of unintentional comic genius like "Cyber-Seduction-His Secret Life").
Delilah the radio personality.
Being sober.
Saying "my condolences, and don't worry, you can still change your mind, or get a divorce" when someone tells me they got engaged or are getting/have gotten married.
Saying "my condolences, and don't worry, someday it will grow up and go away" when people tell me they're having a baby.
Part two later...

Halo-dogs: My own invention I've yet to convince others to eat... it's a hot dog, diced green chilies and cream cheese all wrapped in a flour tortilla and baked til golden brown. Yum!
Hot Rod: That movie was funny as hell. No one else I know liked it.
I usually don't like comedies, but Hot Rod was hilarious.
I like chili cheese sauerkraut and horseradish mustard dogs. My dad likes peanut butter hot dogs.
Some other stuff I like most people don't;
Winter, the cold, the rain and grey skies. It makes me so happy when it's really miserable out - especially when there are thunderstorms. The sun and the heat make me angry.
Manual labor. I just took a job as a computer drafter, and I'm having a hard time adjusting to being inside at a desk all day. It's boring. I'd much rather be up doing physical stuff. Unfortunately those jobs don't usually pay very well.
Absolute silence. I feel so calm when it's so quiet that you think you may have gone deaf.
Cleaning. I like it tidy. Well, I like the feeling I have when I know everything is already cleaned, and I don't have to think about it. It's a very small window to feel that peace, but I enjoy it.
Experiencing other cultures. I know not everyone is against this, but most of the people I know have no desire to ever move from this area, let alone go to another country. I've been to Germany (lived there 2 years), France, Hungary, Amsterdam, Alaska and a bunch of other states, the Yukon, spent 4 months on the Mexican border (never got over though), Iraq, Dubai, New Zealand - I think that's it. I want to see a lot more.

I was surprised to be told that I should hate the few television shows I like, including:
How I Met Your Mother
Project Runway
Top Chef
I enjoy pro and college football, hiking and fly fishing, and beer -- and for those reasons, I am told, I should not like the above shows. Oh well.
I also draw ire from other because I like:
Dave Matthews Band, still
natural peanut butter
squash (the vegetable, not game)
women's soccer
Harry Potter movies and books, thought they were fantastic
the Olympic Games
Journey
neck ties
grocery shopping
light beer
Wal-Mart

Mr Rogers: every once in a while, reminds me of being a kid. Good memories are always welcome.
Bob Ross: His show is the most relaxing thing I've ever seen on t.v.. I wish it was on every night to help me unwind from a day of dealing with idiots that make me hate the human race. Plus anyone who can paint a masterpiece in 27 minutes should get props.
Loreena McKennitt: Voice of an angel. Listening to her is another way I unwind.
SlawDogs: I'm a firm believer that any food(excluding dessert) can be made better by putting slaw on it.
Tabasco: Same as with slaw.

Same here. I enjoyed the Prequel Trilogy. While I can see it's flaws I think people are too harsh on it.
Also, pro wrestling. People always want to tell me it's fake as if I don't already know. I have yet to meet a single person that doesn't enjoy at least one fictional thing so their "it's fake" argument makes ZERO sense.

I love PBS most of the time. I especially love the British sitcoms. Lawrence Welk is pretty great also. I forget the gruff German painter that ran opposite of Bob Ross when I was a kid, but he was my favorite. Total contrast.
Cole slaw, sauerkraut, tabasco and horseradish make everything better.
I'm surprised to see so many people here who don't drink. I used to (used to smoke also), but I rarely do anymore. I don't get why so many people find indulging in alcoholism to be "the thing" to do with weekends (or evenings in general). I still occasionally have a margarita, and I spent 2 years in Germany, so I know how tasty a GOOD beer can be (they're hard to find here - American beer is swill). Good beer also dosen't require a at least a six pack to feel a buzz (it's not a competition to see who can drink the most! geez!), and doesn't give you the trots.

I have beer every once in a while. It takes me about 11-12 to start to feel anything. I disagree about good beer, I've tried all kinds including German, and it tastes terrible to me. I guess its all up to the individual.
Oh and I think in this case the correct term for trots would be Bud-Mud.

Who thinks you should hate these two legends? I don't understand how anyone could feel that way about them. I've been told that Mr. Rogers really was that friendly (not just on the show). I also completely understand what you are saying about how relaxing it is to watch Bob Ross paint. Although I did see an episode of The Joy of Painting last weekend where he painted his worst piece ever (that I have seen).

4.) Driving fast in school zones while everyone is inside their classrooms (Look, the kids, teachers and parents are NOWHERE near the school street areas at 10:15 AM, but I still have to drive 20 MPH in a normally 45 MPH zone? ARGH, no one is in danger if I do 45 MPH through the area!!!)

Hell yea we need to drill more here, we gots more untapped resources than anywhere else on this rock. Don't fall for that global warming crap, hell if greenhouse gasses really did that much damage how come the hole in the ozone is over a block of ice with no roads, cars, livestock and industry to make it. At the same time Washington state stays cold and wet even though Mt St Helens poured more shit into that air than anywhere else in the US? I had a college prof. with a phd in climatology tell me that pollution actually reflects the suns rays and cools the earth. He wasn't after grant money so he explained the truth in a hell of a lot more detail than anything Gore or other activists could dream of. Made some dirty little neo-hippie chick cry. Ha!

I took the '87 Transformers movie to a bachelor party to watch the next morning during breakfast... all the guys there thought I was crazy... the minute I put it in... they were glued to the screen :D That'll teach them for doubting me!!!
That's brilliant! Go to a bachelor party and watch the Transformers cartoon! I know it was the next morning, but still... that's awesome! Had to be, hands down, better than my bachelor party.

One word: Work. Sure, you're "supposed" to hate it, but I actually love work. I love knowing that I'm going to get paid in 1 - 2 weeks for a job well done. The satisfaction of knowing that I'm self sufficient is enough to put a smile on my face on a daily basis.
Why? Because "where I'm from", people outside of that area assume that because you are from "location X", that you are somehow/someway "ghetto" and will probably become another statistic. [insert dramatic music here]

New episodes of The Simpsons - Some say they should have stopped years ago, but it is still better than most of the crap on television now.
Soggy cereal - Most cereal is better crunchy, but when I pour a myself a bowl of Frosted Flakes or Rice Crispies. I let the it sit for a few minutes so the milk can soak into the cereal before I dig in.
Generic products - The store brands of food are often just as good as any name brand. As a matter of fact, many are exactly the same and produced in the place the name brand is made, They just put the food in different boxes or slap different labels on the container.
Paris Hilton - The dumb blond thing is all an act. I bet she is really smarter than everyone thinks. I certainly wouldn't kick her out of my bed either.
Musicians that inject politics into their songs & performances - Many will say they don't want to hear about this from entertainers, or that no one should care what a singer says about it (usually it's because they disagree with the artists' opinions). I prefer music that is relevant rather than songs about nothing that are poppy.
News - I'm a news hound and watch news channels such as CNN a lot. I like to know what is actually going on in the world. Ignoring issues does not make them go away, it just makes things worse. Making decisions by being well informed is a lot better than forming opinions based on carefully picked out sound bites.

Ha!
Drilling is not the answer. Just because they pull more oil out of the ground doesn't mean they can refine it for gas. Refineries have been operating at near maximum capacity for some time now. Not to mention that oil we pull out of the ground here doesn't all stay here, we export some of it to other countries. Oil companies have plenty of places they are allowed to drill where they haven't done so. They need to tap those resources before they are allowed to rape more of our land.
BTW - air does not just stay in one place, it moves around and is called wind. The hole appeared above the the Arctic because of tradewinds. Even Sarah Palin admits that global warming is real and she should know since she is from Alaska. The hole just got smaller after they stopped putting CFCs into products.
When I sell my house and move back to FL I plan on getting a new truck now that they're so cheap. Thinking of a Ram for that awesome warranty, and a big ass Hemi. Might downgrade to a V6 and get a new bike too.
Great idea! Save money on the big truck so you can spend even more money on gas to drive it. Prices are going down on trucks because no one wants to buy them since they'd have to pay outrageous prices on gas to be able to drive them. I honestly think it is stupid to have a big truck just for the sake of driving a big truck unless you actually have loads of stuff you need to transport on a regular basis.

Either way, oil is a limited source of energy. The internal combustion engine is primitive, and the only reason we still depend on oil is because the oil companies block development of new kinds of energy - because the second they do, they lose the billions of dollars they make every year. Until we take the power back from the government, we're stuck with the decisions they make for us - like this new federal aid package those idiots signed for today. At our expense, the shady system remains able to continue on it's merry way for a little longer. Eventually, the greed of these assholes will drive all of us into another depression. It's only a matter of time. Oil is the reason we're in the state we're in. So drilling in America only prolongs the inevitable.
Anyway, to get things back on track, I like burnt bacon - charred, actually - to the point where it's almost carbon powder.

Hahaha, in my Joe-Verse, COBRA's vehicles run on water...cheaply, cleanly and efficiently, and they utilize this technology in Third World countries they conquer. In the USA, information about this is severely censored, propaganda is put out that it is lies and/or incredibly dangerous, and anyone caught with a COBRA water engine is sentenced to life in a special Federal prison and their families must sign non-disclosure agreements or face the same sentence. In OPEC countries possession of the water engine is punishable by death to the perpetrator and her/his immediate family. The oil companies donate billions of dollars each year to GIJOE and their campaign to destroy COBRA, as the water engine (and other subversive COBRA activities) threatens to severely disrupt the economic status quo and plunge the world into chaos.

America had 226 million people during the 1980 census. We currently have nearly 300+ million people here.
That's a boom of nearly 80 million people in 28 short years.
300 million people need energy in this Nation, and the windmills and solar panels cannot power them all.
It will take a combination of nuclear power, coal technology, wind power, petroleum, solar and other means to power 300 million people.
America needs to adopt a grand strategy of energy expansionism lest we struggle with the specter of rampant inflation, unemployment spikes and general economic stagnation.

Josef,
America needs to build more refineries while subsequently creating more American jobs for the 300+ million people who live here.
Further create more American jobs by expanding the petroleum industry to other drilling sites throughout our great Nation.
The communists from China and Cuba are drilling in new sites throughout the Gulf of Mexico. Americans should be drilling there also.
For your edification, oil naturally seeps into the saltwater from the ocean floor and beyond. If Americans drill and collect this oil, then we prevent the oil seepage from naturally poisoning the ocean.
Scientists Find That Tons Of Oil Seep Into The Gulf Of Mexico Each Year (http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2000/01/000127082228.htm)
Energy expansionism will drive down oil futures and other related market prices, and subsequently will drive down the price of gasoline, food and other critical commodities that Americans require on a daily basis.
While the refineries are being constructed, other Americans should build nuclear power plants, hydro-electric plants and clean burn coal sites en masse.
We can take a page from France, Germany and other European nations in the realm of nuclear power. That way, we create more American jobs for the folks who want and need them.
In short, if we drill for oil and construct new refineries, I believe that GI Joe prices will probably go down.
If Americans do nothing, then I foresee an increase in petroleum and plastic prices, which will subsequently yield a continual increase in the price of the toys that Americans buy.

Interesting discussion. If you want to see the main cause of global warming just look into the sky. People forget about the Sun and that is is going through the life cycle of a star. Sure our industrial pollution contributes but not as much as the Sun just going throught it's natural cycle. We get so caught up in the fear mongering and the propaganda that we are unable to see the answer when it is right in front of us. There are a lot of good view points about more drilling here at home, while in conjunction, erecting new clean energy factories, to wean us of the oil problem. Electirc vehicles, both everyday commuters and big equipment haulers. Internal combustion engines are primative to where we could be. Very interesting discussion. In closing, I just want to say that I am not going on an attack here on any ones views or ideas, as we are all entitled to those, with out being ridaculed. Good stuff indeed.

Again, trying to get this thread back on track, I enjoy old stuff a lot. Now, you may argue, that nowadays more and more people are jumping onto the antiques and collectibles bandwagon, but I'm talking more about the worthless junk that nobody wants. Sure, there are collectors for stuff like reel-to-reel tape recorders, old cameras, 1950's kitchen appliances, but most everybody in our current society want the new gadgets that have the newest features. I prefer to use the old stuff in daily life. You know, stuff that was built to last, as opposed to the stuff we get nowadays that's designed to fail in 3-8 years.

It's true that some of that pollution comes over from China. All the more reason for them to fight to pollute less there in California since the cards are already stacked against them there.
Since you are such an expert on communism and other -isms you should also know that people are not allowed to protest in China. Doing so would result in a guaranteed prison sentence with no hope of getting out. People can not question the government there. Why would you expect Americans to go there to protest? Is that the 'love or leave' mentality I sense there?

You're also correct that it will take a combination of energy sources to power this country. We just need to get more of that energy from renewable resources such as wind and solar than we do currently. Unfortunately we are so far behind on that already due to the stranglehold big oil has on our economy that it will take years if not decades to achieve a good balance.

Good to hear I'm not alone. Don't buy into the hype about earth's oil supply running out, if that were to happen it would be the least of our worries. That hot little ball at the center of the earth continuously makes crude through heat/pressure, the day we run out means its cooled off and we'd be in bigger trouble.
And as far as the winds go, how come decades of wind haven't moved that crap from around L.A., seems by that logic it would be crystal clear by now. Maybe there are parts of the earth were certain meteorlogical events happen more or less than others.
One thing science has taught us is that scientists hate being proven wrong and will do or say anything to keep from appearing ignorant on any such subject. Through support (bullying) of entities such as the U.N., theory of man-made global warming suddenly becomes fact. And who will profit from all those carbon taxes enacted against the U.S.? Hmmm, well the same groups who give big ol grants to those scientists.
Too many people on these boards have already drank the Kool-aid set out by this new pseudo-religion of enviromentalism. Reverand Gore would be proud of you. Like in the V.P. debate the other night, when Biden was asked if he thought global warming was from man he damn near shouted his answer. I half expected him to start doing some salute to Greenpeace.
I know some of you will read this and think I'm uninformed on the subject, to them I pose this question. Who's uniformed, one who looks at both sides of an argument and makes his own rational decision or one who thinks that person is an idiot for not sharing their narrow view?
We have and continue to be propagandized to by elements of our media culture. For instance the last few days CNN has said the election is over, Obama's gonna win. How can the election be over before people vote? They know exactly what they're doing. By making a brash statement like that a month before the election they hope to persuade anyone not sure about voting for Obama that it would be pointless to vote for McCain because he's already lost. Uninformed voter sees this on a "reputable" network and thinks "I'd rather vote for Barack than have my vote go to waste."
Everybody needs to keep their eyes and ears open and don't believe something just because someone says you should.

I second that... unless we're talking Voyager... didn't like that very much at all.. and it was so promising.

well if we;re talkin gi joe related....Battleforce 2000 (both vehicles and figures) and the new falcon. Other stuff...a movie that i found downright funny as hell called That Old Feeling and a very politcally incorrect but balls out funny show from the 80's called Sledgehammer.

Sledgehammer! was one of the greatest shows ever! I loved the terrible laugh track. Plus the fact that he slept with his .45 on a pillow next to him was brilliant. I used to watch that with my dad when I was a kid.

The 80's.
I hate the fashion and the cars but the cartoons, movies and music is better than anything that came after it. You can't find better cartoons than 80's cartoons.

Old school Godzilla movies. I LOVE these. Whenever somebody else happens to see me watching them, they get mad or upset or just stare with their jaws hanging open. They're so great. Who needs CGI? Not me.

Sorry Professor but that is how a very liberal "educator" taught me and many others in college. You actually believe stuff you read on the net. How lame.
I didn't learn it from the internet, I posted the link so you could understand why oil is considered finite for our purposes. The formation of oil and gas from higher heat and pressure a few kilometers below the surface takes a very long time, going through a series of stages. We use it much more quickly than it forms. That's why scientists are exploring means to extract what we need from material that is at less than ideal stages in this formation process - as demand increases and technology improves it becomes more cost-effective to try out these other potential resources.

Yes I know how its made and that the earth will continue to make it. My point was just that. We may suck up all the crude that's there now but long after we're gone the earth will make more. Why? because of the heat and pressure down below, like I said. I know it takes a long time, but never said it happens overnight. Oh and this response is about this subject not how you mod. so no more infractions please.

Fair enough.
