View Full Version : Things EVERYBODY Thinks You Should Like, But You Don't!

What are some things that it seems that EVERYBODY likes and gives you a hard time for not liking? Entertainers, Movies, TV shows, Foods, Places, anything?
This is just for fun, so don't get mad if somebody doesn't like something you do. Don't debate the issue. People have different opinions. To each his own.
Mine has to be KISS. I'm a HUGE fan of Rock and Classic Rock and people wonder why I don't worship at the altar of the almighty Rock gods KISS.
I think KISS is just an average band that succeeded on a gimmick. Every time KISS comes on the radio, I change the station. Sure, they put on one hell of a stage show, but take all that away, and in my opinion, the music is just average. How many times can you hear over and over, "I wanna Rock 'N' Roll all night, and every day!"
I don't care for Rush either. Some people hail them as the best thing to come out of Canada, but I can't stand the song "Tom Sawyer". Geddy Lee is a great bass player, but I can't stand the vocals.
I really don't care for Will Ferrell. The dinner scene in Ricky Bobby was funny, but the rest of the movie? Meh. I think he plays the same character he's always played since Saturday Night Live. Ok, "Help me, Oprah Winfrey! Help me, Tom Cruise!" was funny too.

Don't really care what others think of what I like/don't like.
Probably Coen brothers. Most of their movies don't interest me at all. Only one I have any desire to see is No Country For Old Men.
Burn After Reading, the previews, seems stupid. Same with the others.
Farrelly Brothers (Something About Mary) is the same. Don't find the movies funny at all.
Jack Black, Ben Stiller.
Oh yeah, Seinfeld. Have never liked the show at all.

I frackin hate the Godfather all of them--My wife gets so pissed because she wants to watch them all the time. BUT i finally got her to watch Goodfella's and she is coming around, now that's a gangster movie!!!
I know I may get my neard license revoked for this but I cannot sit through Lord of the Rings. I know Peter Jackson didn't F'up the books (at least thats what my Frodo loving brother in laws says) in fact my wife thinks they should be longer. IMHO there is only one triolgy worth that much time, it's about a kid named Luke. Don't correct me either there are not 6 of those movies!!!

anime. sorry fans. but man, i can't stand it. a lot of it i can avoid, but I ran a video game store for years and i despised all that Dragonball stuff.
Every time a new DBZ game came in, i just wanted to punch it.
y'see, when i was a kid, we had what we called, "those weird japanese cartoons"
Battle of the Planets, Starvengers, and Speed racer. those were cool. But all the stuff thats out now, i just don't see the appeal.

Star Wars.
I use to be into Star Wars really, really deep, but i've just come to hate it so much over the years. My son loves it, but he loves it for all the right reasons. Most adults fans like it because they want to love it like my son, but they just get lost in all the BS.

haha, Seinfeld is either love or hate. Its the same with Sunny in Philadelphia and Curb your Enthusiasm, and I love all three.
I HATE Thundercats with a passion. It seriously has to be one of the worst cartoons ever. The characters are horrible, the storylines are even worse, and the concept as a whole is just sh*t. It's just a travesty that everything that was short-lived ends up becoming "underground" and thus "the coolest thing!"
I was all for the Family Guy to return, I loved the first few seasons. Now that it's back, I don't even like it anymore. I can appreciate it for what it is, but I don't watch it and I don't like it.
Pro Football. I don't care about football other than my Fantasy players. I LOVE sports, especially baseball and basketball, but for some reason, the NFL is not at all entertaining to me. There's no sense of individuality in the league, everyone is supposed to be uniform. There's no connect to the players. You can't show too much emotion or you'll get fined or flagged. The media always talks as if there's so much parity in the league, but we all know who the playoff teams are-The Pats, Colts, and Cowboys, followed by the Steelers, Seahawks and Chargers. Sure, one team may have a down year or another may have a great year, but we all know whose gonna be there come playoff time. I also hate how individual accolades are downplayed. If a baseball player hit .400 in a season, it'd be talked about for YEARS. Brady and Moss broke records last year and who even cares anymore?

For me its sports. I wake up at 4:00 A:M every morning and run and go to the gym ( Old army habit, go joe!! ) and enjoy outdoor activities but the thought of spending 6 hours on a Saturday or Sunday watching sports makes me crazy. Lets put things in perspective. If I watched sports, drank ber all the time and spent 30-40,000 dollars on a muscle car or motocycle I would be socially accepted and be a tough guy, but I spend about 100 dollars every couple months ( when new waves come out) on 6 action figures and 4 vehicles and I am considered a reckless idiot who has no money put aside for the future! I am tired of people telling me that collecting things is a waste of time and money. If it brings me enjoyment and takes away stress who cares? How many people smoke cigs or drink alchohol EVERY DAY to unwind? Everytime I spend 7.99 on a joy, it take me back my childhood hunting joes with my father ( My father collected die cast contruction machinery, and we went to all the New York are toy conventions together) and unfortunately he is not with us anymore, so everytime I get a joe I feel a little closer to him somehow and thatys all that matters. There is nothing wrong with connecting with your past as long as it is not affecting your life ( not paying bills, losing your job, etc...). Anyways, the point is we as collectors scare and threaten people who do not have anything they are passionate about so $%&* them for hating!!

Children.
Don't get me wrong. I don't think children should be abused and neglected. I think they should be treated well and raised properly.
Just not by me.
And preferably as far away from me as possible.
I didn't like children when I was one. Now that I'm an adult, I like them even less.
I've been repeatedly told I am a bad person because I dislike children. I DON'T MISTREAT CHILDREN. I just try to avoid them...which is difficult because many parents seem to think everybody else should love their children as much as they do and try to stuff their children down everyone else's throats and make no effort to restrain them in public places. Dogs...and children...should be on leashes if they can't control themselves.
Some people's lives are defined by how grateful they are to be parents. Mine is defined by how grateful I am NOT to be a parent. Free, FREE, FREE!!!
I don't think people who love children and want to be parents are wrong. It's just not for me.

Agreed even though I'm not quite an adult I can't stand most kids. I certainly wouldn't want any either.

I'll have to pick the Matrix. All three sorry excuses for a trilogy and every single actor, writer, producer and extra that had any hand in the making of these films.
The original film was a one trick pony with special effects ripped off of a commercial and that was going to be "this generations' Star Wars!?" Sorry new generations dudes but you got fucked. What the first film lacked in originality... and acting... and plot... the other two more than made up for with pretension. By the time they were making part two and three the actors and everyone involved had been convinced by Hollywood that they were the second coming. Every Extra and Entertainment Tonight report on these stupid films were all about their greatness and importance. Those horrid self-congratulatory interviews are still burning a part of my brain. I can't tell you how glad I was to see that float come crashing down to earth. Or how glad I was to see that the "Wach-a-macallitt" Brothers couldn't get Speed Racer off the ground either.

I hated "Deep Rising". Sure, I love the Sommersverse, but that movie was awful after the first five minutes.
And I am not really a fan of the classic Universal Monster films. Sure, they're okay, but they were killed after being made too kid-friendly since the '60s.

"Watchmen" by Alan Moore. I have attempted to like it since 1988 and still just don't get the hype. I think everyone likes it cause they are told to by high profile people. It always gets #1 spot in the most influential comics yet it just influenced me to put it down. I will see the movie since I like to see comic book movies, but am not a fan of the book what so ever.

Star Wars - I like the first ones, loved it when it was something fresh and new, but now it's little more than George Lucas' personal ATM. He'll put a little something out every few years to keep the fans talking and sell more versions of the same characters that have been done a million times over. I know we have SW fans here, and I mean no disrespect to you guys. Honestly I feel a lot of Star Wars fans get taken because they are so loyal.
Disney Movies (especially Pixar stuff) - Yep I said it. All of it's formulaic, Disney, in my opinion really hasn't done anything groundbreaking for quite some time. And I wanted to slap my buddy for actually thinking who Syndrome was in "The Incredibles" was actually an awesome twist.
"SAW" Movies - They aren't these badass horror masterpieces everyone makes them out to be.
Nintendo Wii - Made me feel old. I couldn't even just pick up "Super Mario Galaxy" and run and jump on an enemies head to squash them. I had to wave one hand and press like five buttons just to make him run... Even worse, my kids (frustrated) took the controller out of my hands to show me how to do it...just like I did to my dad with the NES 20 years ago...

I think we agree on every single issue you mentioned.
First and foremost, "I am legend" was terrible! I do not understand the fascination with Will Smith, nor will I ever.
Second, I agree. I don't watch any of today's shows because I think they are all stupid. I love Seinfeld reruns and The Simpsons (Seasons 1-9), but that's about as "modern" as I get with TV.
Third, I have never been to Michigan before, but I wouldn't want to live there given the freezing temperatures!

Sports.
Summer (winter's way better - anything cold and overcast. I hate the sun. It makes me mad.)
American Idol (and any other "reality TV").
Women that dress like tramps and think there's nothing wrong with it, but get mad when men ogle them. I have a 9 year old daughter who wants to dress like that all the time.
Being a Republican or a Democrat. Go back and read George Washington's farewell address and his stance against political parties. He was right on the money.
Comedies. 99% of them aren't funny, especially movies. You can always see the joke coming from a mile away.
I Love The (insert decade here) shows. Unless it's the '90's, most of the people reminiscing about the decade featured were still in diapers and too young to know anything about it.
Loud motorcycles.
Loud trucks.
Pretty much any tricked out, pimped, GIANT waste of money vehicle that people feel they need to have to have so others notice them. A vehicle is a tool, and a driver's license is a priveledge, not a right. Car culture is totally beyond my grasp, and I used to be a mechanic. I like working on them, but it's not a lifestyle.
Pretty much anything that can be qualified as a status symbol, or reflective of being "wealthy". Bling, Bentleys, rims, iPhones, whatever. If it were up to me, we'd live all live a simple life similar to Buddhist Monks, except we'd all wear grey Dickies work clothes. But that's just me. And those are the things I don't like that most other people seem to.

Rap,the dumbest thing to ever happen.Taking about how many "bitches" you slap/sleep with doesn't make you cool.Theres a reason most rappers don't make it past there first album.
Emo kids,do us all a favor and get it over with.
Marvel and DC,Killing off your characters(most of them anyway) and bringing them back next issue isn't smart.I feel bad for people that fall for this.

World Peace
WTF ?!? Not that it will ever happen, but who wouldn't want world peace?
My picks:
Baseball - Why is this bore fest our national pastime? 162 games is too long of a regular season for any sport.
KISS - I'm in total agreement with the thread starter. Remember when they tried to drop the makeup gimmick? Then everyone saw what they looked like without it and yelled for them to put it back on.
Reality shows that show some celebrity's day-to-day life. I lost so much respect for Ozzy when The Osbournes started.
Anyone who thinks they are cool because they only listen to Indie music. Yeah there's a lot of crap on the radio these days, but I can't agree with statements like "anything on the radio isn't worth listening to."
Anything a redneck would like:
NASCAR - This is not a sport it is just waste of resources. 30 or so cars that probably get about 5 mpg traveling 500 miles in a matter of hours just to all end up in the same place they started.
Country Music - It isn't even real country music anymore, it's what rock & roll was about 40 years ago.
Lynyrd Skynard - If I was in a band and someone yelled "Freebird" or "play some Skynard" at a show I would have them ejected immediately.
Jeff Foxworthy & Larry the Cable Guy - Two so called comedians that have each built careers off of one line, WTF does git-r-done mean anyway?

A couple more that I forgot:
Howard Stern - Used to be funny, but wasn't the last time I listened to his show.

ok, heres a small sample of things i don't like that others seemingly enjoy:
chocolate ice cream and cake, rush, kid rock, most all music that i hear daily, you know, that popular crap, speaking of crap, rap music, those big blow up christmas decorations, can we as americans get any lazier than decorating for the holidays with that crap, reality tv, friends(the show, not the people i know). give me time, i'm sure i'll think of more.
thought of more:
football, obama, most american made automobiles, lord of the rings, star wars.

...and all the other anti-Americanism that pervades society and is supposedly chic these days.
I didn't realize everyone was supposed to like Louis Farrakhan? I thought his whole thing was to "shake things up" and stand up for Muslim Americans while alienating the "White Devil". (For the record, I dislike Farrakhan too)
Also, how does Obama fit in with the other "anti-Americanisms"? Educate me, as I'm apparently uninformed.

Apparently NinjaKu is one of those people who believes Obama is gonna take everyone's guns (this would be impossible with today's supreme court) and that the entire media is liberal. I already edited part of one post to appease him in an effort to keep this thread from getting closed, too bad I didn't even notice his blatantly political post there.

I wasn't trying to start anything, I was honestly just curious about his remarks. I figured he's definitely not a liberal based on that statement, but everyone's entitled to his/her own opinion. Nothing that I am aware of that should make someone have those opinions, and I watch news channels a lot. The big news stories recently were the Presidential debate, problems with the stock market, and Paul Newman's death.

i love hating almost every aspect of daily living.
I hate every modern convenience we have these days. Everyone seems to get so excited about crap like the iPhone, the internet, new cars, flatscreen tvs, the new this, the new that...
Do you realise how infinitely more complicated our lives are because of this crap? And when any of these so-called modern miracles break down or fart, we don't know what to do. For example, cell phones. These all but didn't exist 15 years ago, and even then they were expensive, large, and unreliable. I'd say the last 10 years are when cell phones really became mainstream. I held off on getting one for as long as I could, but it became a necessity if I wanted to talk to my daughter. But now, cell phones can be a matter of life and death. But whenever an emergency arises and your battery's dead, or you're in a dead zone, people seem to freak and have no idea what to do. All of these modern conveniences are robbing us of our ability to think. (And for everyone who still lives their lives without this crap, I applaud you. One day, when my daughter's old enough to support herself, I think I'm going to ditch all this crap and go live up in the mountains.)
If anyone's seen WALL-E, that's how I envision the human race of the future - shapeless blobs glued to a mobile chair and video screen drinking a meal out of a cup.

Friends, that show sucks. Six weiner people sit and complain in a coffee shop, cool right?
The Matrix movies. I liked the first, but the last two are awful, I understand making them more complex, but at point, by sacrificing the entertaining parts?
Scarface, what's the big deal? The guy was a d-bag when he was a nobody, and was even a bigger d-bag when he had all of his power, and in the end, he lost it all.
George Clooney. He has never been in anything I like. Ever. I hated his Batman movie, I hate every ocean movie I've seen, and I hate him. Who plays Batman as gay, not that there's anything wrong with that ;), but come on, he's Batman.

You hit the nail right on the head with that. In particular the sentence that I bolded in the quote. The more conveniences people have, the more they depend on them. I haven't seen WALL-E, but a good movie about the dumbing down of our society is Idiocracy.
You actually reminded me of a couple more things for this.
Texting - I don't want to sit there for 10 minutes typing something on my cell phone that I could say to the other person in 10 seconds. I hate texting. Just another way for the service provider to tack more charges onto my bill. If it's really important, call and tell me what you have to say. I think texting is also contributing to the bastardization of the English language.
pEOplE wHo TYpe LiKe ThiS - Why go through all that effort to randomly capitalize letters? Anytime I see someone typing like this on message boards I completely ignore their post. It would actually hurt my brain when I've tried to read posts like that. Learn to use capitalization and punctuation correctly, then I will pay some attention to what you have to say.
Ipods, mp3 players (mp3s in general) - I don't care how many crappy mp3s you can have on your Ipod or downloaded on your PC, it still sounds like $#!+. I prefer quality over quantity. If you really care about those bands get the entire albums on CD (which will unfortunately go the way of 8-tracks soon). I prefer vinyl myself (yes, they do still make records) which provides the best sound quality. (LP > CD > > > > mp3).

I feel the same way, but I unfortunately have an iPod, and I do appreciate the ability to have a large amount of music at my fingertips. I only use it in the car - I just hit "shuffle" and let it go.
I used to be the kind of person who would collect music, and any band I really enjoyed, I would go well out of my way to get everything available. Import CDs with one unreleased track, or even Japanese full-length albums with an extra track. It's expensive. And it takes up a massive amount of space. Now I can usually access any song I desire, while simultaneously weeping the demise of the album.
I buy a lot of used vinyl. Between my girlfriend and I, we've got upwards of 400 albums. Again, space is becoming an issue.
But then I think about how the way that a lot of bigger bands have been able to shake the reigns of large corporate labels and put out their own music. Additionally, a lot of otherwise unheard of bands now have a voice that can be heard through the internet - and yeah, a lot of them are shit, but we've been inundated with terrible music for years, and previous trends never gave much of an indication of really putting anything refreshing back into mainstream music.
The day I realized that I really didn't belong in this modern world, I was watching cable. This was probably somewhere between '99-'01, I think. I flipped on MTV (in the off chance they might actually be playing some music - they still did that back then), and I came across TRL. I had no idea what this was. It seemed to be an excuse for 12 year old girls to scream and cry and be overall obnoxious. Then some crap called Dashboard Confessional came on, and I thought to myself, if the entire block that that building sat was blown up, and I was responsible, I would not feel one ounce of remorse. Shortly after, I reenlisted back into Active Army for another tour. I don't know if the 2 incidents are related. But anyway, yeah. I'm a total Luddite trapped in the 21st century.

not to mention with a large HDD based model like the top end ipod or Zune or creative you can encode in a lossless format. I used to do that, but stopped due to space constraints and i can't really hear a significant difference between a high-quality (320kpbs) AAC file and the lossless file... I've spent time in a recording studio, so i know your losing something, but unless your listening to audiophile speakers i'm just not that bothered by it...

I hate trends. I've never been a person to jump on a bandwagon just to keep up with other people. I go my own way in deciding what's right for me, and I really could care less about who's toes I step on.
I hate the Christmas season. I work in retail, we've had our Xmas display up since the first week of September. It's sickening. It has nothing to do with what the holiday is all about, yet people are more than happy to blow huge amounts of cash on bright and shiney shit to hang up on their house.
Religion. I don't hate religion, and I respect people that stick faithfully to their own, but all I see when it comes to religion is a way to divide the human race. For ages it has been the cause of senseless destruction and an impediment to human advancement. (This is my opinion, and I'm not going to discuss it further - period.)
On a more lighthearted note, I can't stand that chick on the Progressive commericals - the one that's got a pound of makeup on her face and tries to be all cute and sassy... let's just say I'd laugh hysterically if a file cabinet full of cement fell on her.

The money in this world is disproportionately distributed. People who do crap work get paid the least, whereas some people with a cushy job get a fat paycheck and all sorts of perks. Some jobs are emotionally draining (like a suicide hotline operator, or someone who deals with disability claims), some are back breaking (roofers, ditch diggers), some rob you of your soul (any mass-retail or fast food job), and some are just unenviable (porta john cleaners and other septic and sanitation workers). Everytime I hear about how much some athlete or actor or actress makes, I want to rip a phone book in half. What human anywhere sees nothing wrong with making $1 million in a year, when there are other people who don't have a home or food to eat?
And it's been proven that the more a person makes, the more the quality of their work declines. Anything over $500,000 annually should be taxed to death, and that money should go directly to people who need it. And I'm not talking about people who are lazy or unwilling to work for a living. There's a huge problem with people who have an over-inflated sense of entitlement in this world, and in America, at leat, this is encouraged by programs like welfare and food stamps. Don't get me wrong - there are people who need those services.
Especially when our government endorses outsouricng American jobs to foreign countries. I guess another thing I don't like that most people do is Democracy. It doesn't work. I spent 8 years in the Army defending democracy, so I feel I have every right to state my feelings on this. There's a whole cycle here where our systme of government is bound to fail. It's starting to crack up right now. I've seen it coming since I was old enough to recognize it as such, when I started paying attention to the way our government worked.
People buy, and people buy, and they take out loans, and go in debt, and buy and buy and buy. Consumerism. Just as much a problem as alcoholism or drug abuse. I wouldn't much care about it, but I have a daughter who's going to have to live with this. And it's not her fault, it's not my fault. We know who's fault it is. Credit companies. Oil companies. On a more lighthearted note, I can't stand that chick on the Progressive commericals - the one that's got a pound of makeup on her face and tries to be all cute and sassy... let's just say I'd laugh hysterically if a file cabinet full of cement fell on her.
I think you just divided the human race with a call for senseless destruction of an actress playing a part she was paid to play. So i wouldn't say religion is the ONLY reason why people can't get along...

I'm still a man despite the fact that I don't hunt, watch football, have a lifted truck or drink beer. Anyone who says different has issues of their own. I'm quite happy with my Johnson size, and my wife hasn't complained either... :D

I hate trends. I've never been a person to jump on a bandwagon just to keep up with other people. I go my own way in deciding what's right for me, and I really could care less about who's toes I step on.
Same here. When i was in a highschool we called people like that a T.A. (Trendy Assholes). I would hate to look in a mirror and not know who i was.

The Sims. It's effing boooring. Any game that's supposed to simulate real life is a waste of time for people that don't have a life. I've got a better deal for you - come to my apartment and clean out my cats litterboxes, take out my garbage, run the vaccuum and buy my groceries. Because I sure as hell don't feel like doing it after playing the Go To Work game all day, and yet I still have to. I don't know where the people have the time to do this crap. From 5 in the morning to 10 or 12 at night (depending on the day), I'm doing crap all day long I don't want to be doing.

Don't really care what others think of what I like/don't like.
Probably Coen brothers. Most of their movies don't interest me at all. Only one I have any desire to see is No Country For Old Men.
Burn After Reading, the previews, seems stupid. Same with the others.
Oh yeah, Seinfeld. Have never liked the show at all.

P.S. Just pointing out the obvious, that this is called communism. and in a way its a great idea but people are inherently greedy and it never works...also it is unamerican and I am sure if America had "an elite fighting force" with a code name, they would be against it.

Yeah, I realize the irony here. Unfortunately, I'm as much a product of the world I rail against as anyone else here. I hate it, yeah, but I'm also a part of - like claiming to be a Luddite at heart over the internet, which I've done before, and I totally realize that irony doesn't come any more blatant than that. Some of the things I love are only there because of the things I hate. I'm against our dependency on oil, but then what would Joes be made of? I think, what I would like, is people to act more responsibly. I get irritated by those among us who have to have a new released figure as soon as it comes out, damn the cost. Sure, it's your right to spend whatever amount of money on whatever you feel like, but show some restraint. I'm pretty sure nearly everyone here on this site has gotten ahold of every figure they wanted, with the money they have available - eventually. Maybe a few are still waiting for a BAT, or they came in late and now don't have an original Flint. This is really the only thing I spend money on that isn't a necessity. I don't have cable, I use free internet only, I don't drink or smoke, and 95% of the stuff my girlfriend buys for the apartment is second-hand stuff.
And I agree - communism is a great idea in theory. I've read the Communist Manifesto. The problem comes down to absolute power corrupting absolutely. AKA - human greed.
We should all be more ready to commit some random acts of kindness. Good deeds are almost as infectious as violence.

I understand that jobs pay more when the skill is a little more specialized. That's not what I meant - I'm more referring to non-essential jobs (entertainers) who get paid obscene amounts of money on top of endorsements and other perks. The balance for them to be worth that much is not there, and if they were to make a more down to earth salary, then I believe we would have better products from the entertainment industry. Actors, athletes, artists of all sorts always did their better work while they were still struggling. Once they get into that comfort zone and are making 7-digit incomes, then they have no drive, and a lot of the time their output turns to crap.
And the government already tells you what to do with a large percentage of your money, and they just spent it all on the financial bailout b.s bill they just passed. But I don't remember saying that I thought the government should tell you what to do with your money.
Anyway, back on subject again, I hate pineapple flavored anything - especially pineapples.
