View Full Version : The "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys / Xena: Warrior Princess" thread
I loved Hercules growing up. Still do in fact. I rewatched the entire series on Netflix a few months ago, and the theme song is in my Favorites on YouTube.

Kevin Sorbo's Hercules was definitely one of my greatest heroes as a kid. He was right up there with the White Ranger from Power Rangers, and Donatello from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
And then there was Xena. I always found Gabrielle to be the more attractive one :P

The Xena and Hercules shows collectively got me interested in the works of WETA and Sam Raimi. That, in turn, led me to favor WETA over ILM - I had been a long time ILM fan ever since Jurassic Park (my favorite movie of all time, unflinchingly so).
It's a shame we'll never get awesome toys of Hercules.

Gabrielle was always the one that I could relate to more than Xena although both made a great team to watch kick some ass. Along with Hercules I used to watch early in the morning when I would get home from work. Good times.

I never saw the appeal of either of these shows.
I watched a couple of episodes of each, but neither did anything for me.
I should really go back and have a look at these again though, as I felt the same way about Buffy and Angel at the time too. Both of which I watched start to finish with my wife when we first got together as they were her favourite shows.
Though they got tedious at times, I am glad I watched them as there was some truely great television in there (the silent and musical episodes for example are, in my opinion, some of the bravest and best television productions ever aired) and some excellent characters and stories are explored throughout the series.
I don't know that Xena or Hercules can be held in the same regard as Buffy and (to a lesser extent) Angel, as I don't know enough about them or the production teams behind them.
Looks like I need to add two more shows to my long, long list of tv to watch.

Ahhh, Callisto, one of the best things from Xena.
Callisto's got bony legs. She looks and sounds like this kinky girl I worked with in my highschool library. By the way, I took that as an elective after being kicked out of 2 previous ones, and nothing else was left.
I could never watch Buffy or Angel for 2 reasons. Cinematography was an eyesore, and I hate seeing women fighters with horrible fight stances. I concede the fight scenes in Hercules and Xena were cheesy up the wazoo, but there was a ton of charisma in the characters, and the New Zealand settings were nice to look at.

I never watched this show... I watched the Mortal Kombat tv show that starred a young Kristanna Loken instead. LOL.

And the lead male actor played the leader of the agents in Matrix Reloaded.

I liked the Xena series better then Hurcules, but often watched them both as they aired back to back in the area I was living in at the time.
Never seen the majority of the final season, including the series finale. Wasn't able to get into the DVDs, as they were too expensive ($70 for the first season when it was first released in 2003). Universal is re-releasing the seasons, in bare bones budget sets. Season 1 & 2 were released in 2010, and Season 3 will be released this March.
You can still get the older DVD sets from Legendary Heroes ($129, six seasons plus the 10th Anniversary Anthology box) and you can usually find the complete series on Ebay for a similar price.

Are you referring to Xena, Hercules, or both? Because last time I checked, the entire series of Hercules was available for instant streaming on Netflix.
