View Full Version : Review: Cycle Armor with Ashiko

The Cycle Armor is a great idea, but it should have been scrapped somewhere in the development process. The figure looks silly with the peg holes. The bike is bulky and the figure can barely ride it. Combined it does look nice, but I don't see any reason whatsoever to ever take him apart. The paint/color scheme is also fairly dull for my liking. On both the figure and bike. Not to mention his darn right hand pops out easy! Hopefully it is just mine and not the whole production.

Go figure. This was a design I'd been keen on when I saw the Toy Fair pics, but now seeing it in this review, I'm definitely underwhelmed. I'm actually glad this wasn't readily available, as I'd have been seriously conflicted on whether to buy it or not once I saw it in person, and if I had bought it, I might well have been rather disappointed later to have paid MSRP on it.
Good review. Thanks!

Yeah just got mine the other day...and while I was really looking forward to the Cycle armor I have to say this.
As a cycle it looks great...but the driver looks terrible its Wraith with more peg holes and they look terrible.
Then add the armor to the rider...and it only gets worse, as his legs are kinda spread to wide and he often will go into splits. His arms are essentially in one place only and you can't move them at all.
Making him a brick.
I actually found myself liking the HISS Scout better...yeah it makes little sense and doesn't work well connecting to a HISS but it actually comes off as a decent small vehicle.

This now looks like the bike in the new tv spot with firefly being my prediction as the driver... Seeing that bike catch air and scatter into pieces as if triggered and then explode my first thought was
Oh shit that was cool

I wonder if this is how hasbro releases the cycle armor as a cobra repaint...
That said I want this...at least a half dozen

I'm in the process of making an Ashiko without the peg holes for when he's standing by the bike(or on it). It's just a simple repaint of the Wraith figure with a RoC Flash head. I wish I had an extra 25th Wave 5 Snake Eyes, it would save me having to paint a lot of areas on the body, but, that's what the airbrush is for.

Just picked up Ashiko at Ross today. And I agree with your review. I almost paid $50 for this guy last month. But, for $8.99 you can't go wrong. The Hiss scout driver is actually way better than Ashiko. I think I'll swap out the thighs and put the gauntlets and armor on the hiss scout driver. The Ashiko figure is just piss poor. Both hands of Ashiko keep falling off. So you my friend are lucky that only the right hand of your's pop off.
If you're unfortunate to not have any Ross around, IMHO, it's not worth paying more than $15-20 shipped for it.

Bought it just for the cycle. not terribly interested in the transforming function.

don't know about you guys but I decided to have a little fun with my cycle and with a little imagination and a creativity of where you can place the wheels other than the back of the cycle armor take a look at this. ok so I cheated a little because I have a magnifying tool stand I used to hold him up in the shots but I think it looks much cooler this way. I also had kept in mind since he is a ninja and a master of most cycle vehicles why not have the wheels be on his feet, he can move more swiftly now and glide through the streets at amazing speeds I know that sounds corney but I thought it would be cool.

and then when the wheels are in place in the back they can be like boosters if you think about it for a moment.

I'm a huge Robotech fan, so this was a must for me. I do have to agree, however: This vehicle does fall short in allot of different ways in terms of design. It was a cool idea though and I'm glad to have something so obscure in my Joe collection.

I feel the same way. I only ever got it to help out the people in the US and at the same time use the cycles and HISS scouts to get stuff I couldn't get.

i personally like the concept even if it isnt executed well. Unfortunately i dont have one yet. My ROSS store hardly ever gets gijoe items in. i hope to get a couple soon.

I agree. I like the concept as I love Robotech. Unfortunately, the actual toy is really hard to play with and to put things together.

Despite the lackluster reviews, this is the last thing I need to complete my PoC collection.
I'll buy one, transform it a few times, leave it in bike mode, place it on my City Strike PoC shelf.
Then, breathe a sigh of relief!

While the execution leaves a lot to be desired, the figure comes with more than enough weapons to compensate. I'll admit that i even thought about getting rid of it initially, but it's growing on me. My least favorite part is the figure. He can't wear the helmet unless it's over the collar. The head's too small to hold it on its own.

got this guy from a friend yesterday. the armor is cool in bike mode. the ton of weapons and awesome backpack are also great.
the figure is complete fail. basically is wraith with port holes all over the armor and roc flash head. the armor mode is terrible.
this thing makes the hiss scout an A+

My closest city is getting a ROSS finally. I doubt I will see the ashiko cycle, but this is some interesting news.

I think this thing is bad ass in armor mode.
I am not sure what issues other people are having with the armor staying on but mine is nice and snug.

the wraith armor restricts the arms from moving up.
