New pics added 02/22/12

***Please note, I did not draw any of these. I got them done at various Conventions by different artists.***

I go to a lot of conventions, be it toys, comics, or pop culture cons. At these Cons, there are always artists doing sketches of whatever you want. (usually for a price) So a couple years ago, I picked up a sketchbook and started getting the artists to do GI Joe characters. My one rule? I let the artist decide who to draw. I figured I'd share so here they are. Just click the link below to see them all.

42 sketches in all.

Here are a few low def pics. For the other 38 pics along with these in better quality, click the link above.

Love the Toxo-Zombie!

Yeah, I got that one done a couple weeks ago at the Deland Comics and Collectibles convention down here in FL. The Artist was Tommy Castillo. In my opinion, he knocked it out of the park.

Both are slick as hell if you ask me.

That is awesome. Have you thought of having any framed?

If your going to JoeCon this year make sure you hit up Chris Tupa. The Artwork of Christopher Tupa (http://www.ctupa.com/The_Artwork_of_Christopher_Tupa.html)

They are all currently in a sketchbook. Maybe someday I'll get them framed. Not really sure though. That would involve me trying to cut them out, and I'd be afraid I would damage the pics.

I didn't know Chris Tupa was gonna be at the con. I've actually been in talks of having him do a piece in my book. I planned on mailing him the book, but now I may just hold off until then. Thanks for the heads up.

Neat stuff. Up to now I've been collecting Tunnel Rat art, but this makes me want to expand my character selection a bit.

Passing around a sketchbook and getting it filled with G.I. Joe artwork is a great idea--thanks for sharing. Any chance you could label the pics with artist names?

I got a Snake-Eyes drawing from Larry Hama a couple years ago. I really like his loose style with the pencils.

Those are great! I just started my con sketch collection last year too, will take a long time to get to how many you have! Over how many years did it take to collect those?

Sadly, no, I'm lazy. I do have almost all of them labeled on my facebook page though. I'm pretty sure you can see them even if you are not a member of the site.

Just about three years.

How much do sketches cost at the conventions?

Sometimes they are free, which is rare, but usually they are about $20 to $30 a pop. It all really depends on the artist. I've paid up to $60 for a couple.
I really don't want to think about what I've spent on this book.

It's funny you say that, because RAK is probably one of the more well known artists in my book. He rarely does commissions and i am very grateful for having it in my book. Besides, the book would be pretty boring if all the pics were done the same style, and no ones style is more different than RAKs.

Got any Rob Liefeld?

Got any Rob Liefeld?

HA! I wish. I'd have him do a pic Roadblock, in the style of his famous Cable pic from the early nineties, in which he blatantly ripped off a Roadblock picture from another artist. (Michael Golden I believe)

I like those. You just go up to the artist and tell them what you want? Any artist? Sorry never been to con so I have no idea. The toxo-zombie and Storm Shadow are the best imo but they are all good in one way or another.

Yep. I just walk right up to them and ask if they can draw a GI Joe character. Usually they charge anywhere from $15-$40. Sometimes it more, sometimes it's free. It all really depends on the artist.

cool. Thanks. They have artist at all cons and shows or just the biggies?

It depends really. The show I just went to was called Mega Con. it's one of the biggest in the south east, and easily had 50-75 artists.

I've gone to shows where the are only a couple and shows where there are a bunch, like last weekend. Joelanta is just around the corner and they are having a few artists present, (Larry Hama, Tom Fiester, and Don Hillsman) which will be really cool. I'm hoping to get a few more sketches while I'm there. Last year at Joelanta, they were all doing free sketches. hopefully that is still the case.

There are always a ton of shows in your neck of the woods. The midwest is one of the best areas for Cons, be it Toy, Comic, or Pop Culture.
