View Full Version : Does anyone think the movie toys will have action features?

Hey guys, just as the title states. I for one am trying to be otimistic about the movie figures. I actually think they could turn out to be really cool. The only thing that worries me is action features. I don't mind an occasional spring loaded missle launcher but I would hate for them to start putting action features back into the figures such as a spring loaded punch/kick ect... I truly hope hasbro has moved past this. What do you all think?

well i dunno...i think the action feature thing has died out but knowing hasbro im sure they'll probably try it at some point...but don't worry the movie line is gonna suck regardless of action features. :>

Action features didn't do to well for the SW figures recently, feedback from Q&A's wasn't real positive it sounded like. I think it will be more like the recent clone wars line and be full of spring-loaded weapons (maybe.... i can't even really see them doing that, but who knows... only Hasbro knows!)

I sure don't want my toys able to punch and kick.

Besides probably Snake Eyes and maybe Storm Shadow(its hard to make them not cool) I'm thinking the movie figures will suck. I mean nothing to this point has got me excited about the movie and the overall costume design of the movie reminds me of the way they remade the X-men suits for the movie. That design will translate into the figures and therefore they will totally suck. Can't you imagine seeing like a billion Dennis Quaid Hawk's on the pegs! Just imagining it is making me quesy.

being a long time X-Men comic book collector I thought the X-Men costumes were very well done. I am a tad skeptical in regards to the Joe and Cobra costumes, case in point, StormShadow. I didn't like the preview of his uniform. Something in my gut is telling me that this movie is going to be as action packed as Street Fighter and I really hope that the movie proves my gut wrong. I mean comeon!!!! Marlon Wayans as ripcord? Who didn't do their homework? This also hits a nerve as now I have some conflict because I may have to break one of my movie rules which is... "I don't see movies with any of the Wayans Brothers" rule. Heck I think I would be more accepting if they casted Jimmie Walker from the TV series "Good Times" and he screamed D-Y-N-O-M-Y-T-E while jumping out of the back of the skystriker which is actually the 747 from Soul Plane.

I dunno but this scene right here i can picture in a mel brooks parody.....anyone else?

I think they probably will have spring loaded features as some of the recent Star Wars figures had them and Hasbro is wanting to appeal to a younger crowd.
So they might not, but I could very easily see them doing it.
It doesn't matter to me what they do with them, I'll see the movie and am still optimistic about it, but I will not buy the toys as they are not joe for me.
5 repaints of Duke with Chase Tatum's head and 3 repaints of Marlan Wayans in a black power suit that happens to say GI JOE Ripcord--no thanks--
Sab
That would be the same as if they molded a Danny Devito head and put a hat on it and called him SGT Slaughter. If Hasbro says its so and so, then it IS so and so. Right....

God, I hope not. That's what your imagination is for. And any additional reason for a single figure price increase will put me out of the collecting business. I do think the figures will be way beter than the movie, though.

As for action features, I really doubt they'll have any.
Most if not all of the more popular lines today don't have any sort of action feature. I could see a Build a something feature, but i think "with Karate chop action" is a thing of the past.

Honestly, I don't care, because I probably won't get them. Not because of some "OMG it's not the originals!!!" thing (I greatly prefer the Transformers movie figs to the G1 stuff (except for Starscream)).
Mainly because I've seen the character designs, and "Generic Leather Fetish Wear" went out when it was mocked to hell and back in the X-men movie. No thanks.
Snake Eyes, however, I will be buying. No exception.

I doubt it. Action features have never done well with gijoes. Remember the VVV figures like sword slashing Storm Shadow? Shelf warmers. Yet the wave 4 version, which had an o ring and no gimmicks, sold far better. Basically no one wants nunchaku wielding Duke, or stand here while I swing my bo at you Cobra ninja Slice or whatever. It hasn't done well before for joes, didn't do well with Star Wars, and has yet to show up in Indiana Jones, present Star Wars figures, and the modern era joe line, so I doubt we will see it in the movie line. I think the vehicles will have missle launchers, and maybe electronics, but thats about as far as I think Hasbro will go, and those gimmicks wouldn't surprise anyone.

I don't think these figs will have extreme action features, but they will have "something"....
I also see these figures all looking very similar especially in their acceleration suits. variety is something i do not see this movie line having.

Iron Man has action features. Hulk does as well. Alot of the Transformers had spring-loaded accessories.
I can totally see the movie figures (which are an attempt to bring kids back to GI Joe, and not just collectors) having lots of action features. Here's hoping none on the figures themselves, but I think theres an extremely high likelyhood of spring-loaded weapons.

You know i'm glad i'm not as negative as the most of you are. I mean come on. How can you sit there and say the line probably won't have variety because they all wear black suits. That tired old saying is getting so worn out. We've already been told that they wear multiple suits so that argument makes no sense. Also we've seen one bad shot of what we think is a viper. SO let's all jump on the bandwagon and say this line is going to suck. So you think they are gonna come out with one of each character in a power suit and one cobra viper huh? Please have a little faith. The same people who brought you this incredible line is doing the movie line so i have no doubt we are gonna get some awesome figures. Maybe not all of them but i'd say at least 4 waves or so of cool stuff maybe more. We haven't seen any shots of cobra commander, zartan or any other troop types so just wait and see.

Well said. I hope the joes get a jet to take on the Night Raven too, which I hope turns out to be bad ass(already said to look a lot like the classic one).

Yeah thats what I am hoping for, a Night Raven-esque Modern Era compatible plane.
Its the vehicles that will most likely get my money in the Movie Line regardless if its all GM vehicles. Plus there is supposed to be a Cobra/Destro Submarine
Has Hasbro said the Movie Line will be in 3.75 scale?
I know it makes sense because most casual people are familiar with GI Joe in that scale, and the vehicles are more cost effective in that scale, but I just get a feeling that we will see 5-6 inch scale figures, like Spiderman 3, FF2, Hulk Movie, Iron Man Movie.
That scale is more eye catching in the toy aisle to impulse buyers who don't know much about the source but have recently seen the movie

I guessing that there will be enough different characters and different outfits that they won't have to rely on action features. Some of those movie lines that do (Superman Returns, etc.) must make as much variety out of few characters as possible.

That scenario already exists, dude.
Think of that ugly "Mutt Williams" action figure with green snake.
Think of those Clone Wars peg warmers that are clogging the aisles.

3.75 anniversary style was already confirmed months back for the movie line.

I hope not, but Hasbro loves to do it to push the 'play value' for kids, so I don't doubt it.

They probably havent shown shots yet for two reasons; one they don't wanna show anything before they have en official trailer and two; they know that if they released pics of those things too early it would do bad for the movie because a lot of wait an see people may or may not go OH MY GOD THATS HORRID and they don;t wanna risk losing that potential so far out.

i doubt it. the figures arent big enough. they have firing weapons or some gimick though.
But i doubt the figures themselves will.

No. It's very doubtful Hasbro would want to spend some thousands of dollars making all new figure molds or retooling existing ones to accomodate an action feature. They only make parts that they can reuse more than once.

im willing to bet the movie line will be like batman hulk and iron man crap. we will see ninja action duke, ice blade cobra commander, astronaut snake eyes, fire blaster ripcord, cyclone blade scarlett....and so on.

I really don't know. However I figure for the 3 3/4 line that we will probably see some spring loaded "firing" weapons. There has been several people bring up the Batman,Hulk, and Iron-Man movie figures. You have to keep in mind the scale of those figures to the scale of the 3 3/4 inch figures. A larger scale gives you more room to add all the "action feature" stuff. Not saying that we won't see a sword swinging Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow or what not. I really hope not but you never know. Anyway, thats just my 2 cents.

what i am looking foward to are the vehicles as well, is that pic of ripcord up above of him going into a dropship or something like that? if so that would be a great toy to have. but it might just be a repainted clonewars gunship.

I doubt we will see action attack or spring loaded gimmicks on our figures. For one thing they have never been that successful. The primary reason is that one way or another, either the sculpt or articulation will be compromised, in some sad cases, both(Ninja Force Storm Shadow, VVV wave 1 Storm Shadow). Especially in the VVV line, the action attack figures w/tcrotch were the shelf warmers. You couldn't even get main guys like Duke or Cobra Commander to fly off the shelf with those features.
Action features have been absent from 3-3/4" joes for 2 years now, I don't see it coming back.
