View Full Version : Sharc Tooth with Deep Six G.I. Joe Modern ERA Review

The Sharc Tooth is pretty much unchanged. The cockpit was already big enough, the pop up cannons and removable engine cover still work the same. Just like the Night Specter, the canopy has a retooled latch to make it impossible to pop open. (Great for when you fly the Sharc Tooth upside down around the house) Since the pegs that hold the missiles are too big for the new figures, three pegs were added to the underside. One is for the back hole of a figure and the other two are handles. There isn’t enough room to fit a figure and two missiles at the same time. The stickers are more like the first wave of vehicles, being glossy. There have been some updates there too. Stickers that originally had lines to simulate miniature writing, now have actual writing. However, it’s too small for me to make out, but it looks better than some random lines. Some stickers were also miniaturized and seem to fit better than the originals did.

Even though we’ve seen this vehicle dozens of times over the years, it’s still nice to see it in it’s classic color scheme. The addition of the pegs for a diver to attach to the bottom was a nice touch.

Deep Six is what I’d call an homage figure. He looks just like his original counterpart with a few upgrades. This time around he can bend his elbows and rotate his wrists. Also his dome can come off and he has a ball joint neck like all the other figures. There is also a clear plastic shoulder light now. The bellows work just like they did originally. The peg for the hose has now been recessed into the body to avoid breakage. Deep Six comes with Bellows, removable Dome Helmet and a GI Joe Stand.

While Deep Six may have the least amount of articulation in this line, this doesn’t hinder the figure at all in my eyes. The suit itself always looked to be very bulky and not something Deep Six would be running around in anyway so the lack of articulation isn’t a big deal to me. He has the same playability the original figure had I felt like a kid again making Deep Six rise and sink in the water over and over again. The only drawback I have with the figure is that it really is only suited for sea dios and not much else.

I love the fact that they stayed true to the original with this one. Too bad you couldn't pop the suit open to find a Deep Six in a wetsuit underneath.

We wont get that because that idea is too awesome. Great idea for a custom though.

2 interesting notes that I observed:

1) Deep Six comes with a 2 peg stand, but both his feet could never being on each peg at the same time

2) The directions list the front stick as "SA-Sharc-335m" with "Tooth" on the bottom of it, but the stickers just say Sharc without the Tooth part.

I'm glad they brought back the idea of putting a fig on the bottom. That was the first thing i done with my non-sharc,checked to see if you could still do that.I can't wait to get one and put Deep-six in the sink, just to watch him go up and down.

I always liked the Shark for some reason, but they can keep the humpty Dumpty Deep Six figure that comes with it!

I still think, while an homage, it's lame that they couldn't articulate the legs. I'm not talking ball-joints, but some degree of motion. Come on, everyone is like "I love Bludd's arm not moving".

Well, I tell you what, it's easier to leave it alone and imagine that it doesn't move than to want it to move and it not move at all.

At least the arms move more, the head moves and the helmet comes off. I hated the original figure, it was a brick, and while the new one looks better, it's still essentially a brick.

I think ratcheting knees and hips, and maybe even ankles would have been nice... Forward and backwards motion with a t-crotch, that's fine. He should be bulky, but at least be able to move somewhat.

I can't wait to get him, but he's a major letdown.

must it be called the "sharc tooth"?

and lets not even support the new names for the moccasin and the sky hawk when those two, absolutely beautiful toys arrive.
see, ive started already, i refuse to type that stupidity.

I agree. It sucks having all these name changes. I'm still emotional over dataframe WTF! In the comics in wave 5 they called him Mainframe, why can't the figure be called mainframe? Or at least put Sgt in front of it or something.

i have no problem with him and his limited articulation. however, and i understand the logistics and cost in my idea, idve like to have seen him packed with an alternate head. one with a peg hole at the base of his skull---in the back of his head. so he could, somewhat look forward whilst in the sharc. as it is now, when hes in the sub, he looks he should be hitting that life alert switch at any moment.

Yes, the neck articulation would have been nice... Even a double-ball-jointed neck, so that he could look up, would have worked...

It's an issue I've had with Cyclops from Marvel, his figures have always had a light gimmick, but he's NEVER been able to look up until recently... Although none of the ones that I have can look up.

I will say, at least there IS a Deep Six, he's a pretty iconic figure... And he has a new head sculpt that looks really good. I was also so excited when we was first announced, but extremely let down. A lot of people mentioned that Torpedo was a crappy figure as a kid, but the new one is one of their favorites...

I think Deep Six would have been one of my favorites, I was just so let down by the lack of much movement.

He looks terrible from the side as well, no way he could stand with those legs like that and that heavy equipment.

Great review, thanks! I'm warming up to the Deep Six figure. Not by much, but a little. I'm glad there are more details on the SHARC, like the stickers and the addition of a 25th compatible back peg. Would have been great with two pegs, and have retooled missiles.

i can hardly contain my anxiety at the notion of getting The Crocodile Expert in my hands!

and im really looking forward to guy with dog and dog.

but seriously....im no lawyer, but why couldnt we get this for every figure...
craig "rock n roll" mcconnel
brad "ace" armbruster
i dont know his "mainframe" file name offhand
unknown "firefly" classified

okay that last one is a joke, of course....but wouldnt the text referring to the fictional name, along with the " "-enclosed code name, be sufficient? it seems to be okay for some. looking at you mr. pulaski.
and what the hell is up with nemesis immortal? i dont even consider the cobra-la shit, much less disregard it, but that is just a weird name change that i really dont understand at all.

I'm mostly getting this because my original version is missing the pump, and the Sharc has a little bit of damage.

Just so you know, since the back was retooled the hose is slightly bigger than the original's peg. It'll fit on the peg, but the force of the air pops it off

Do you know what would make this forum the most complete reference to the 25th line? Carded figure pics and box pics of the toys. Yes?

Sorry I couldn't resist! :D

Hmm... I think his head sculpt make him look like Jonh Favreau, the director of Iron Man the movie...

Awesome figure, by the way!

yeah, if ol' Deepsix had ball-jointed shoulders and ratcheting hips-knees-ankles he would have been absolutely epic. as is, he's "ok" but i'm not buyin' the Sharc just to get him.

head sculpt and elbows were a nice gesture, though...

My questions are:

1) Does his head pop off?

2) Does it fit on Torpedo's body? and

3) Does it still fit on Torpedo's body when he's wearing Ace's helmet and vest?

Thank yew very much.

just, got mine and there is one big difference between assembling the original one (that I still have 100% mint and complete) from 1984 --- Now my fingers and hands are adult-size thus making putting on those itty-bitty decals a real chore! It wasn't this hard when I had little hands as a five year-old, but being a 6'6" 30 year-old with big ol' hands makes things hard!
