... Not very easy to do. Anyhow, I figured I would play around with this since I finally had some downtime. I know about the sponge technique, but I wanted to try this out. I used a very fine script liner brush with a cross-hatch technique. I suppose it came out ok. It looked better with less black. Here are a few shots of the work. I used a stiff bristle brush on the flat panel to test out that method too.

The end result being that I need to nail this down for some Marine customs I have planned.

I hate digi-camo, or MARPART in this instance, but I have to say you've managed to do the best digi-camo I've seen to date, and it is definitely better than the results using a sponge give.

I have to give it to you, man. You're the best when it comes to accurately painting camo in the 1:18 scale. I would love to see you tackle multicam! I love me some multicam.

Outstanding work as always, buddy. I really hope we can use this technique on that USMC MARSOC project we've talked about. Honestly, this looks really great.

That's the plan... I just wanted to try and perfect so I may use it on a few random customs before starting on the MARSOC batch.

Thanks guys! I do have multicam and British DPM on the agenda... just working one pattern at a time.

That looks awesome. I have been going back and forth on whether or not to put my Mega Marine team in digital camo but didn't really know how, until now. This is inspiring!

I can't see the first few pics, but the camo looks very nice on the figure in the last one.

Its pretty tedious... I find painting regular woodland camo easier. I recommend that you use a magnifying glass work light if you have one. My eyes felt like they were going to go cross-eyed a few times.

Not sure why you can see the hyperlinked pics...

Would like to see the figure pic with brighter lighting. It looks like it turned out better than the sample. Just curious about how long those pants took. That looks like a couple weeks work at my skill level.

I'll take some better pics, the legs did come out better than the sample. I think it took me couple hours to complete the legs. I used four different colors and the same layering technique I use on my other camo jobs.

I can't say that it came out better than the sponge/dry brush techniques due to comparison to scaled ratios (1:1 vs 1:18), but I felt that I had more control with the pattern by hand painting. IMO, It's easily accomplished at any skill level, just takes a few times to perfect it. Try it out, you might surprise yourself.

Cross hatching refers to making horizontal lines close together, then going back across them with vertical lines. I vary the lengths to achieve the digital patterns. I then fill in the center portion of the lines so it doesn't look like a tic-tac-toe symbol. I will post up a how to some time with pics and phases.

Your paint looks good, what brand and colors do you use? also, what order do you lay them down in?

I like your crosshatching the best outa the three. Great job!

What do you think of stenciling? Maybe you could create a pattern with an X-acto on a super thin polypropylene folder, or on heavy duty packing tape folded over on itself. I know it would be really tiny, but it might be doable (?). Whatever you use, you'd want it to be easily duplicated and inexpensive.

I found this site: HOW-TO: Paint your weapon or marker digital style (http://www.tacticalcamo.com/articles/How-to-Paint-your-weapon-or-marker-digital-style.html) and it got me thinking . . . might could work in 1:18.

1. Base color = Nato Green
2. Flat Brown
3. Khaki
4. Flat Black

I used Tamiya paints diluted with windex.
