thats a sweet looking tank. one thing tho if I recall from the trailer theres a gun ontop of it . this is also the same gun the Roadblock Rock tears off the roof. so its possible that this is a Joe vehicle ?

Might have got more 'dressing' (logos and guns) before they filmed it. As such, it could go either way: HISS or Ripsaw. Right now I'm leaning toward HISS, as they've gone for such obvious treads.

I love their stuff! I've been looking around for a set of treads that will fit a 1/18 4-wheeler body because I want to make a mini-rip for my Joes.

yes...yes it would...if only for the reason that hollywood is ignorant about things fans want...you'd probably have an easier time getting hollywood to make a book into a movie and not change the holy hell out of it...

What a piece of Junk!
If that's a HISS tank I'll be really disappointed. If they weren't gonna give us a vintage HISS, then why would they waste the design of the POC HISS Tank?
Yeah, I already know the answer, so they can sell us a new toy.

wasn't this already confirmed as Roadblock's tank? if so, why is it being stated to be the HISS?
Crimson Rage

The one in the trailer looks different to me; more 'skeletal' (unless a lot of panels have been blown off?). Thought they might be two different vehicles.

Because of the shape of the treads.

If they do make this vehicle I hope they put some kind of gun on it...a real gun not a puny machine gun or something. Cobra needs some kind of heavy tank/artillery vehicles
gunslingercbr

Because of the shape of the treads.
obviously. but if we already know it isn't the HISS despite the similarity, why is it being stated to be the HISS? it is one thing to think it is the HISS when we did not know, but once we do it is foolish to continue to do so.

Am I the only one that thinks this tank looks like shit? It looks like a tube frame with thin sheet metal panels welded over the tubes and tossed on top of some Cold War tank threads laying around in a scrap grave yard.
For an updated Armadillo, it would be great but not for any of the bigger tanks please! Mobat, Mauler, Hiss all deserve something bigger and badder than this design.

Meh. Too small and no gun. Even the original hiss had no gun, just silly lasers. Can't call it a tank.
It's better than having a ridiculous glass canopy.

Yep! The Riptide is the tank you see driving through the fire in the Retaliation Trailer. My guess is it will be the HISS Tank in the film. Looks bloody close enough for me. Love it when science fiction becomes science fact!!!

The best thing this could be is a base to build the classic HISS tank on. The main problem I always thought of was the tracks.
If you had this you can build whatever you want in fibreglass on top of it.
CornDog_The_Ninja
01-02-2012, 08:53 AM
The tracks on this doesn't look anything like a HISS.
It just looks like a tank without a turret and a barrel.

Initially I was excited from this pic. Because I hoped the Hiss scout might get its rollcage retool. Then I looked closer.
The treads only look like Hiss tank Treads based from the camera angle. Their is no Aggressive incline at the front.
But at least this is'nt the toy yet. Hasbro has'nt even confirmed making a toy of this specific vehicle. It could just as likely be a Joe vehicle that sits in background shots as their base gets bombed.
That would be a really boring alpha-bravo vehicle if it lacked any weapons. The mole pod was better.
Morgardee
01-02-2012, 10:25 AM
I hope this is not suppose to be a Hiss Tank. This is the future mole pod on GI Joe 2 IMO.

Made by Howe & Howe Technologies for the US military so I'm guessing a Joe vehicle since it's something we will see on the battlefield in the future.
A really amazing machine. Not a main battle tank but made light and fast so it could provide convoy protection and infantry support in places other vehicles would only get stuck. It can also do a scouting role. It can use a driver or in the case of a suspected IED it can be controlled remotely so only the machine is put in harms way.
After watching the Howe brothers test it out I'm really looking forward to seeing it in GI Joe 2.

the company has or had a tv show. this was featured in an episode. looked cool then but no real apparent amour as it was just a prototype.

Well after seeing the "Test" footage and your pick I'm more excited. Boy that thing can move.
But the front page pic leaves alot to be desired. Your pick really makes it look more like a HISS, just needs some cannons.....
I smell a custom contest once these babies hit the shelves.
If it's truely in the Joe2.....Hasbro should be smart and make 2 versions of this. 1) A Bravo Vehicle 2) An RC Vehicle
Come on, they did a Star Wars Halifire Droid and Clone Tank as RC's, this would be a no brainer.
Skyhawk
01-02-2012, 07:54 PM
Hmm... why is everyone complaining about it? So far the 2nd film looks to be WAY better then the last one.
If it's a REAL vehicle that can REALLY move, how gives a crap if it looks like the 1983 HISS or even if thats what it even is?! If the Ripsaw is in the move, thats WAY better then a fictional POS.
Just my 2 cents...

Just making it clear to everyone there are TWO tanks: The Ripsaw and the Riptide. The Ripsaw is the pic in this thread with no glass canopy. The Riptide is the larger amphibious version with a glass canopy and a .50 cal Sniper Rifle attached. I think both will be in the movie. The Ripsaw doesn't so much look like a HISS tank but the Riptide looks the bee's knees!

if they took the treads off of http://www.fastline.com/flimages/internet/041/079/5039269_1.jpg and reversed them then built up the tank body over it and used the gears in reverse (I know there's somebody that could figure that out) it'd be the PERFECT tracks for a HISS tank.

Much will be answered at the NYTF next month. I'm digging all the speculation surrounding this tank and well....the movie. It really gives life to GIJOE. I believe we are gonna have our asses kicked with the movie and with a good chunk of the toys. Damn,I'm 39 and all this buildup makes me feel like a kid again. I'm working with fellow Tankers to get us together for the midnight showing of this movie here in Oregon. A lot of excitment out here. Yo Joe!!

Cobra is in control of the government which also gives them control over the us military. So why would they need to steal it from the joe's if they run the military?

Who's to say the JOEs didn't get it FROM the US military? They could have access to all the schematics and designs. Plus the planes at the beginning of the trailer look a whole heck of a lot like Cobra Rattlers. It's entirely possible they stole the designs for what will become the HISS tank from the US military.

Whether the base is the RIPSAW or the RIPTIDE, I think they picked the ideal real-world vehicle for a H.I.S.S.. As for the original look, well it looked good on paper and on the TV screen, but in terms of a realistic approach, I don't think, personally, that the original look would work on camera, much less live up to the source of it's name: HIgh Speed Sentry. The Howe & Howe base models provide the HIgh Speed portion.
