I started to get excited... until I realized the thing I hated most about LOTR were the Hobbits. LOL. I only really cared about Legolas, Gimli, Aragorn and Gandalf.

The thought of Gandalf in the throws of passion did it for me. And all the men singing.

That trailer makes it seem like a boring movie...or at least a movie without very many action scenes. I will still go see it though because it links to the other 3 movies.

Well, it's called "The Hobbit" (singular). Only one of them to worry about...meanwhile you get a whole gang of Gimlis (including Gimli's father, IIRC).

Have you read the book? There's about as much action in it as there was in any of the three LotR books. I'd imagine we just aren't seeing much of it yet because the FX work on stuff likely isn't done.

As a teaser, this is pretty good. Establishes the characters, re-introduces us to the setting. I bet the next trailer is much more "action packed."

battle of the five armies!!!

Won't be in this one. We may not even see Smaug in this one.

The book is being split into two movies. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Hobbit: There and Back Again.

I know. The big stuff will be in the second movie.

I guess once again Im in the minority, because I didnt like the LOTR's movies, and this is just another one of them.

LOVED the books when I was in middle school and was into D&D, but yeah, another 3 hour LOTR's movie does nothing for me.

I liked the Hobbit more than the LOTR. My favorite series growing up was Weiss and Hickman's Dragonlance.

Liked Dragonlance when first read it. Doesn't hold up as well on second and third readings.

I liked the first 2 more than any of the others..the third was OK. The sequels weren't as good IMO. I haven't read them in 20? years so I couldn't say. I read them 3 or 4 times in Junior high.

The sequels were no where near as good. Even the newer books that came out in the last 5-10 years just aren't as good.

They really F-ed up Krynn in the newer books.

I never read the book, but was the last guy introduced as sauron? I'm sure I heard it wrong, but he did seem to get a more daunting introduction

Jmacq1

No, that was Thorin Oakenshield. He's the leader of the party of Dwarves that Bilbo's going on his adventure with. He gets a more daunting introduction because he's a badass.

Reread the Hobbit over Xmas vacation.

December 2012 is too far away.

I'm thinking that the first movie will end with them just about to enter Mirkwood. Seems like a natural intermission point.

I am officially hyped for this movie. Can't wait. I re-watched the extended edition trilogy over my holiday vacation. Not all in one sitting of course. :D

I specifically asked for a Blu-Ray player so I could get the extended edition trilogy in Blu-Ray. Got the Blu-Ray player and my birthday is in March.

My wife and I actually do watch those a couple times a year. Seriously. Back to back to back. Sure it takes like 4 days with no sleep, but it's worth it.
