I just got into the 8 inch figures, I love them..if there's anyone still left around here, I'd like to know about the unproduced figures. I've seen this page

Sigma 6 Celebration Day 3: The Unproduced | Generals Joes - A blog about the importance (or unimportance) of little plastic men (http://generalsjoes.com/2009/06/10/sigma-6-celebration-day-3-the-unproduced/)

but also some images of a figure called Overkill which I can't find again...

I know the bomb squad dude with the dreads has popped up on ebay before.

I don't recall an Overkill, maybe it was a custom?

I have one of those ground blast heavy dutys

Hi guys, thanks for replies.

The guy with the dreads was produced as a prototype then? Probably cost a fortune I guess...also a figure of Dusty got to prototype stage?I've seen incomplete ground blast Heavy Dutys' I think.

The Overkill figure I found some small pics of, apparently he was going to come with detachable limbs , reminds me of the Borg Queen. maybe this was a custom, I don't know.

Maybe we'll be due for a 10th Anniversary reboot, I can but hope!

wow as much as I hate the faces of some of these toys, they looks really fun to play with.

Yeah they are really well made and full of character -proper toys! i'm afraid to say it but the little Joes seem really slight in comparison when you pick 'em up next to these boys. I'm a big fan of the little ones too I might add.

Ya the heavy duty actually was produced and released overseas.. you can get them for a decent price..

the rest of them.. who knows they might pop up.. the inferno is a cool fig - but I thought it was released.

Joe Colton and Wetsuit are incredible. I wish I had those...I love those "adventure team" themed S6. I have the Danger In The Jungle set and I think it seriously might be one of my favorite Joe items of all time.

That Cobra Commander concept art is f'ing killer!!

Colton is a Must Have!!!!!! I really wished they'd built the big ol jeep that was to come with heavy duty as well!

Had another look at the Joe Colton prototype. How could they have denied us the Sigma 6 Gorilla?

Groundblast Heavy Duty was released in decent numbers; it briefly sold for more than a hundred dollars on eBay before plummeting to rates cheaper than retail.

Only a handful of Dustys were released; Justin Bell reviewed one as part of his special Sigma 6 retrospective:

Sigma 6 Celebration Day 7: Adventure Team Dusty Review | Generals Joes - A blog about the importance (or unimportance) of little plastic men (http://generalsjoes.com/2009/06/14/sigma-6-celebration-day-7-adventure-team-dusty-review/)

As far as we know, Nemesis Kidd bought the only Short-Fuze in existence, and it kills me inside; he's my all-time holy grail, for sure.

Figures we believe exist only as samples:

And since I still have the photo in the same album where all the above are located, and because I believe in sharing the awesome as well as the pain, here's a kickass Sigma 6 Mutt custom from JBL (I've regrettably forgotten the name of the guy who made it):

Wow. Thanks, Monte Williams. Those are a treat for the eyes. Nice pics of the unproduced prototypes.
I wondered about Dusty and Heavy Duty. How did Justin Bell come by his Short Fuze?

Nice custom at the end.

A while ago I saw some customs by a guy who made famous video game characters as a commission for a Playstation magazine, there was a great Gordon Freeman as I recall. It may have been Jin Saotome, or it may not.

They were stockpiled heavily in China. Destro sold his for something like $250, then they started to get bought up by tankers on taobao. I picked up a dozen myself from that site.

This is the Overkill you were talking about earlier. Never shown off to the public at any show like the rest of the unproduced figures.

Jin Saotome's Sigma customs are truly works of art.

I wondered about Dusty and Heavy Duty. How did Justin Bell come by his Short Fuze?

Justin has Dusty and GB Heavy Duty, but no Short-Fuze. That honor belongs to someone who registered here at the Tank under the name Nemesis Kidd, showed off some photos and then disappeared. Maybe he has a web presence elsewhere...?

Here's the thread:

http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-joe-sigma-6-toys/2468-sigma-6-short-fuze-revealed.html

As you can see, they've reused some of his accessories for Rise of Cobra Laser Artillery Tripwire and Renegades Tunnel Rat.

Thanks, Roshan, I forgot to address the question of Overkill.

No one knew anything abut him until... I believe it was last year's JoeCon.

http://cdn.hisstank.com/gi-joe-news/attach/4/2/0/1/1/Sigma-6-Overkill-01_1302552171.jpg

His legs would have been removable so that you could hang him up in creepy robot fashion.

More bits and pieces.

Found one picture of the Overkill with his hangar. Great toy idea!

Also a sketch for a Dog handler figure which looks very cool.

The Mech suit pictures were shown in a prototype page, they're clearly made from Lego Bionicle bits. Perhaps very early toy design ideas? Or somebodies custom. Good idea actually...

More pre-production sketches from Dynamo Development Labs. These sketches remind me a little of the Borderlands game artwork. They look like early ideas for Sigma 6 characters from the hints of chest articulation.

Incidentally it looks kind of cool but I wonder why Zanzibar is light purple? Something he ate?

Justin posted quite a few things from Dynamo:

A 3 3/4 Skybat- was this a convention exclusive that was produced in any number?

Also I'm not familiar with the 2.5 inch line yet, but did we get all of this stuff?

The VAMP jeep that we've seen in design sketches and mock-up was for 8 inch scale, right?

Monte Williams
12-30-2011, 08:01 AM
I don't know anything about the 2.5-inch series, and I never even heard a rumor about a 3.75-inch Sky B.A.T., so I hope someone can answer this!

EDIT:

The ever-reliable Justin Bell reviewed the little guy:

G.I. Joe Collectors' Club Convention Exclusive - COBRA Headhunters (http://generalsjoes.com/reviews/2008/exclusives/conset08-1.html)

He's part of a convention-exclusive Headhunters set. Who knew?

Incidentally, I've been planning for a year or two to army-build the Star Wars Hostage Crisis Droid and call it a Sky B.A.T.:

The VAMP and the Arctic VAMP were released as vehicles for the 2.5 scale. As stated, the Sky BAT was released as a con exclusive parachute figure.

Oh...and this is a handmade prototype of the VAMP for the 8" scale. IMMC, this was made out of kinda like a cardstock material...

Didn't Destro also have an unproduced Dusty? I remember seeing it as one of the Cons.. he brought it by the booth.. Maybe Kansas City?

Those Adventure Team figure make me wanna cry. Sigma Six is my favourite Joe line. I'd trade any of my other joe figures from any of the lines I collected for more Sigmas.
